The Chiefs can release him with zero cap implications.

For his production, his contract was a steal.

From what I just read a player has to be on IR for at least 6 weeks and can return to play 2 weeks after that if they are designated to return. One player per team per year but I don't think we have used that this year (Houston was on PUP, right)?).

This is really upsetting. Not so much about how it hurts our backfield as much as just wanting him to be part of this. He is fun to watch and a great guy. Hate to see it end this way.

pugsnotdrugs19 11-01-2016 03:38 PM

Next man up. Or in this case, keep rolling, since he never really played.

Ware and West, and now Sankey, will be just fine. Ware is easily a top 10 all around back, maybe even 5.

POND_OF_RED 11-01-2016 03:39 PM

Glad he at least got one final touchdown in the black hole if this is indeed it for him. Thanks for the memories JC.

I suggested we trade him last year but that was booed and frowned upon here.

I loved JC but the offense focused more without him because they had to spread the ball around and not lean on him so much. This is Andy Reid fault really for forcing JC to be the offense 80% of the time when he was healthy.

pugsnotdrugs19 11-01-2016 03:39 PM

And yes, Charles could come back for the playoffs, but will they? Idk, seems unlikely.

Amazing career.

Alex would get just as much blame as Andy as far as checking it down to him.

It's like Detroit now without Megatron. Guys like that mentally trick you into thinking you should get the ball to them at any time when you are unsure, and it limits your offense.

As I understand it, the IR rule states that one player per team per season can be brought back from IR after a designation of at least eight weeks. The player does not have to be identified as designated to return when he is placed on IR. The Chiefs can bring back a player, but we don't know at this time whether that player might be JC.

No, Houston was put on the PUP list to start the season.

The Chiefs can bring back any player that they put on IR this season but that's limited to one player only.

Teams no longer have to designate which player returns in advance.

pugsnotdrugs19 11-01-2016 03:43 PM

DaneMcCloud 11-01-2016 03:43 PM

Regardless of whether or not he's ready to begin practicing in 8 weeks, it's probably much too late in the season for him to get into football shape and have any impact.

Plus, the Chiefs might be faced with having to cut a productive player in order to squeeze a questionable Charles onto the roster.

Dorsey let a lot of dudes walk in the 2014 offseason, so it didn't make much sense to me to not trade JC the second he threatened a hold out.

If you're a rebuilding a team then why half ass it by locking down cap money to a position that has a propensity to get injured relative to others?

Well, this all but guarantees no one will give him much in FA.

Maybe there's a glimmer of hope he can return next year on a cheap deal.

DaneMcCloud 11-01-2016 03:45 PM

He's done for the year.

If he ever suits up for the Chiefs again, it'll be on a Vet Min incentive laden deal.

That's probably out of the question for 2017, depending on the severity of the operation.

On the bright side of today's news, I re-watched our offense when Fulton came in and he did really well. I know, it's the Colts DL, but he picked up a couple stunts and got a surge in the run game generally.

Love me some Jamaal Charles and hope like the dickens that he'll be back with us next year. Guy is a total warrior, and assuming they can get his knees right, I still think he's got plenty left in the tank. Never seen an NFL back with a smoother, non-wasteful stride. Absolutely perfect form.

Generally, I'm not one to get all crazy about keeping older vets, but for some reason or other, JC is a different breed in my mind. I want the guy back next year. Period.

We've got Ware and West?

And I wouldn't be surprised a bit if Sankey turns it up in KC. Ware was out of the league in 2014 and West in an UDFA. If they can turn those two into good players, what can they do with a 2nd rounder?:hmmm:

welp ... for one, the quarterback position is different because of the long mental developmental aspect. Two, if Bray isn't ready next year then cut his ass too.

This coaching staff seems to like keeping borderline guys around because of familiarity. Imo borderline guys should be prospects not 'blankies' for comfort.

Kman34 11-01-2016 04:08 PM

Bet he pushed too hard and needs a meniscus clean up... being out the rest of the year is good for getting him back next year... even though he will be 30 next year he has less miles on him because of the injuries.... I hope he comes back to contribute next year if not retire with a alltime best 5.5 yd per carry...

pugsnotdrugs19 11-01-2016 04:11 PM

If OverTheCap is right with their numbers, by the time we roll over this year's cap room and void Foles and Charles contracts, we would have around 27 million in cap room next year....

Poe and Berry are both likely able to be kept, if they want.

RunKC 11-01-2016 04:14 PM

No Sir they are not. But coming off that many injuries and being that old for a RB. It's nothing personal ita just smart NFL business.

Holding onto players past their prime for sentimental reasons is bad business. The ONLY 3 positions you invest heavily in are elite pass rushers, left takle and the obvious QB.

Dane cleared it up that it wasn't a bad deal but it is cap space that is currently allocated when we have other positions needing help.

That was all...
