BBQ place in North KC
 

We'll be making the trek down I-35 from Iowa on Sunday. Is there a good BBQ place on our way to the stadium? We usually stop at the Gates on 40 Hwy but that's still not open. I'd prefer not to drive more than a few miles out of the way since the roads might be shitty.

Will you be coming down I-35 or I-29?

There's the Back Porch BBQ on 40 Highway.

And if I am not mistaken, there's also a Jack Stack's in Arrowhead.

Smokin Guns in NKC shouldn't be too far out of the way.

Smokin' Guns is hands down the best joint in NKC. I'd check to see what their Sunday Hours are. Their burnt ends are among the best in the city. Definitely try them.

Man, I live north and have always gone south of the river for BBQ. Will have to try Smokin Guns.

Smokehouse on North Oak is good. It's much better than their Zona Rosa location.

Also apparently open on Sundays at 11 so that might be an option if you don't mind veering a couple of miles off 35.

I always liked Winslows in the River Market-but I think they closed down recently.

Yelp suggests that 'A Little BBQ Joint' is pretty good.

Oh yeah? That sucks. Ate there twice and loved it both times.

And yes, would recommend both Smokin Guns and Smokehouse on N.Oak. Would love to have a taste test between their burnt ends.

That's in northeast Independence and is way out of your way. It close to my house. It's OK, but nothing spectacular. Better off going to Gates at 12th and Brooklyn or Bryant's at 18th and Brooklyn in east KC.

I haven't enjoyed anything by them both times I went. Hang jaws in Riverside has great burnt ends and ribs. My two main things I eat.

Smokehouse has gone down hill to me. Still amazing sides but Thierry meats taste like they are straight out of the hyvee cooler, slap liquid smoke on them and drenched in bbq sauce.
