Hali took one for the team. He took a really, really team-friendly deal and I rarely ever say that (there's always fine print).

Hali has been an absolute steal given what he would have gotten in the open market and he's been worth every penny.

He still has a great role on this team as a depth OLB. We may be overpaying a bit but not much.

I agree, this window has closed. Time to move on from Tamba, DJ, and Charles. We need Tamba and DJ to retire so we can get the cap money to resign Berry and Poe. If we cut them we won't get nearly as much.

I disagree. He's a much bigger factor than Zombo. He's still a quality guy to have in the rotation and the first guy I want off the bench. The Chiefs have a lot of leverage because he costs nothing to cut. Restructure his contract and keep him. There was a point this year where we didn't have Ford or Houston. We should know by now that we need quality depth.

Tamba has been a great Chief, model citizen and has had a great career.

I've enjoyed watching him, but he's done. I don't see it helping the Chiefs at this point for him to stay around. I hope he enjoys his retirement and remains part of the organization in some capacity.

I disagree. Poe was fighting Pouncey AND Decastro most of the night. Those guys are both elite. Poe is way above average gen when he's hurt.

What I saw was they doubled Smith and let Pouncey handle Poe which he did with ease.

Take a pay cut then.

If he intends to play beyond 2017, then the solution is simpler. Turn his $8.5M deal into a 2-3 year contract. That is a fair market value for a depth rusher and it takes a big chunk off our cap.

He was a pretty good backup player this year and I would love to have them back next year but he needs to take a pay cut in order for that to work out

His cap hit is $8.5 million. His dead cap money is $8.9 million. If they designate him as a post-June 1 cut, they could spread $7.1 million out over two years, but that leaves them even deeper in the cap shitter for 2018. His 2017 salary, along with this year's, and his signing bonus, was fully guaranteed. They will cost themselves 400K by cutting him.

The Chiefs have been overpaying players for a few years now. The piper is coming, and his payment will be due soon.

They're in one of the least envious cap positions for 2017, but they can clear some money by releasing Charles and Nick Foles. They only save $1.2 million by releasing DJ. They could save $7 million by releasing Colquitt and Mauga, both of whom are vastly overpaid

Time to do the following no matter how much the heart feels:

-Cut Charles UNLESS much lower pay

-Hali gone

-Poe gone

-Knile Davis gone

-Resign Berry

-Kendall Reyes gone

-We need to either use Tyler Bray or cut him

-Not sure what DJ has left in the tank

-Phillip Gaines CUT

-Draft a QB

-Draft a ILB

Hate for this defense? I'm on board with Peters, Sorensen, Mitchell, Nunez, Jones, Parker but clearly the older veteran players have simply not produced for what we are paying out to them. Houston and Hali have given us very little this year and will account for nearly 30 mil next season. Berry is streaky and nowhere on the consistency of a guy like Earl Thomas. His lack of awareness last night in coverage was embarrassing...

I don't think the 2018 cap situation looks that bad. I for one think we should make both DJ and TH post June 1 cuts. This would make the best out of a bad situation with those two.

Every dollar over the league minimum is an overpay because the guy's a glorified position coach at this point. This is the same kind of awful takes we got when Mike Vrabel came back.

For the sake of conversation, let's take a look at this scenario.

If the Chiefs cut these following players Post June 1st, there's a Cap Savings of $25,950,000 dollars, nearly $26 million in savings:

$10,750,000 - Foles
$1,250,000 - Hali
$7,000,000 - Charles
$4,100,000 - Colquitt
$2,850,000 - Jah Reid


The Dead Money for Hali ($7,333,333), Colquitt ($800k) and Reid ($775k) comes to $8.908,333 million.

So the Chiefs would gain $17 million in cap space by cutting those players. With the estimated $4 million in available cap space, the Chiefs would have a minimum of $21 million to play with, which could include new deals for Berry and Poe, as well as deals for Foles and possibly Charles (league minimum).

Also, Anthony Sherman, IMO, should be the target of a renegotiation/extension. I like Sherman but paying him $2.3 million dollars to have less than 10 offensive snaps a game is a waste of valuable resources.
