RIP John Hillerman
RIP Higgins.
one of my favorite TV characters. John Hillerman, the actor who made a career out of playing snooty types, including Tom Selleck’s fastidious estate caretaker Jonathan Quayle Higgins III on Magnum, P.I., died Thursday. He was 84. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/...230644411.html https://s.yimg.com/lo/api/res/1.2/Ws...3b3ff58b521b6c |

Was he Robin Masters or no? Never finished season 8
|
I liked him on Magnum PI.

I always thought he was; but, I dont think the show ever officially said it? :hmmm: |
One of my all time favorite movies, Chinatown, he played 'Yelburton' the assistant water commissioner. That's him on the left talking to Jack Nicholson. If you love film noir dramas and haven't seen Chinatown, do yourself a favor, I've seen it so many times I've lost track.

Magnum is my favorite show from the 80s, and Hillerman is a big reason why.

"Oh my God ....Magnum!" RIP....

Oh, and fwiw, the "Higgins is Robin Masters" stuff didn't start until season 7. There are early episodes that contradict this though. Robin makes an appearance in season one, though his face is never shown.
A bit of trivia: Robin Masters was voiced by none other than Orson Welles. |

I can totally hear that. |
I was always a fan of Higgins outward disdain for Thomas’ friends. And his ongoing questioning of the use of the Ferrari by Magnum.
Dude straight up despised TC and Rick. Particularly the early seasons. Lol |

More trivia: one of Tom Selleck's big breaks was appearing as a private eye on Rockford Files in an episode called "White on White and Nearly Perfect." Rick (Larry Manetti) was in an episode, too. Angel from RF was in a Magnum episode called "By Its Cover." He played a very Angel like character. Gretchen Corbett aka Beth Davenport on RF was in two episodes of Magnum, "The Look" and "The Curse of the King Kamehameha Club" The guy who played Rockford's buddy Dennis Becker was in a couple of great season 7 Magnum episodes called "Laura" and "Death and Taxes." And Rocky was in a fairly crappy MPI called "All Roads Lead to Floyd" Allegedly James Garner was supposed to appear in a MPI episode called "A.A.P.I." It didn't happen but one of the producers of Rockford Files, Stephen J. Cannell, did make an appearance. |

I need to check out RF again. Have t seem it in years. Vaguely remember watching it with my dad, but was too young to really know what was going on in the show etc.

He didn't actually turn it down, but the filming schedule of Magnum wasn't going to allow him to do it so he had to say no. Ironically, there was a writers strike that year so he actually would have had time to do both had he known. They poke fun at this in a mediocre season 8 episode called "Raiders of the Lost Art." |

It's available on Bluray now. You can also get the complete dvd set dirt cheap at Walmart now; it's like 35 bucks for 6 seasons. My favorite episodes in no particular order: Backlash of the Hunter Counter Gambit Chicken Little is a Little Chicken The Hammer of C Block The Real Easy Red Dog A Portrait of Elizabeth Rattlers' Class of '63 There's One in Every Port Sticks and Stones May Break Your Bones, But Waterbury Will Bury You The Trouble with Warren Piece Work Feeding Frenzy Quickie Nirvana Trouble in Chapter 17 |
Yeah, that’s how I picked up 5 of the I think 8 seasons (?) of Magnum PI,...something dirt cheap like that. I almost want to say like $35. About once a year the wife and I will break it out and binge watch a bunch.
