I think I have a drinking problem

Or perhaps it's my anxiety and I'm sure I'll be flamed for it. Ever since this summer it has not been uncommon for me to drink 3-4 a night this happened when my gf left me. I keep taking tests online and there has been no definitive answer. My friends and family have yet to express concern. I just wish there was an answer.

Hammock Parties 11-12-2017 03:05 AM

just throw all the booze away. don't go out. problem solved.

TimeForWasp 11-12-2017 03:17 AM

If you get back up. there is no problem.

eDave 11-12-2017 03:29 AM

You don't have a drinking problem. You have a girl problem. And you need to snap out of it.

Check your messages and you will see where I am coming from.

3-4 what's a night?

Pints? Pints of beer? Vodka? 151?

Do you go to different places to buy it?

What do you do with the trash? gas station? random dumpster at apt complex?

I actually agree with you to an extent but you could have worded that a lot better or sent him a PM.

The guy is obviously going through a tough time. No need to be a dick about him asking for advice or help.

That said OP ChiefsPlanet is not the place to look for advice on this subject. Not that there are no ppl on here who won't give you good advice or who won't be willing to help but there are so many trolls here. There are other forums that are better for these type of issues. PM me man if you want and I can point you in the right direction.

Good luck with everything.

Just my $0.02 worth... While drinking will temporarily help suppress the uncomfortable feelings, it has a negative effect of preventing you from dealing with those feelings and moving on. This is called avoidance and it can become a bad habit.

I have a saying... Good habits are hard to make and bad habits are hard to break.

Until you face your grief and loss, you will not move forward.

Your problem must be you can't hold your liquor.

People are different but 3-4 is not typically an alcoholic.

I'd know...

BlackHelicopters 11-12-2017 10:20 AM

If anything, you need to drink more.

mnchiefsguy 11-12-2017 10:20 AM

Instead of online test, do an at home test. Go 2 days without drinking. If the temptation to drink is just too much, or if you feel you cannot live without it and you have a drink or two, then yeah, you probably have the beginnings of a problem. If you can go without, then you don't have a problem, at least not yet, and you are aware that it potentially could become one, which gives you more control.

Just think of the pounds you'll shed and the money you'll save not drinking.

I've cut back on drinking to about once a month, and I don't keep it in the house.

And I seek out the same in the opposite sex.

It's glorious.

4 drinks a night is fine. jesus told me. id have 6 if my wife wasnt such a prude.

NewChief 11-12-2017 01:02 PM

I literally drank every day for years. Sometimes I’d just have one, but usually anywhere from 3-6 beers or drinks. Every day. And weekends I’d really tie one on. This year, we’ve stopped drinking on weeknights unless we have a social event.

I’m kind of amazed at how easy it was as I was pretty sure that it was going to be really hard and I’d have withdrawals or something. Point being: it was mainly a habit that could be broken. We drink kava tea at night now as a ritual and to help wind down.

So yeah, if you are sincerely thinking you might be an alcoholic, then get help and attend some meetings, but you might have just developed a habit that you can break.

Even if you are an alcoholic it doesn't mean you have to quit or change. St Joe no ****s are given about drinking and drugging to get by. So if you have a problem or not is not the problem. The problem is you are feeling like shit. My advice is sober up, go to therapy, sleep, eat, put up with feeling bad because feeling bad is apart of life. Accept grief heartbreak failure setbacks as apart of life and learn to cope with them. If this fails get on on depression drugs. Of course you want do any of this because people waste their time trying to see if they have a problem or not and **** around until they feel better and they don't learn shit. Then another crisis occurs and they didn't learn shit from the last time so they do the same bullshit again.

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it not true. Drink yourself to death and literally no one give a ****, maybe your mom. Everyone else will be thinking about lunch more than your death. Once you let go of this idea that you have to change you cn begin to decide what you want.

So long as you can afford it, are not ending up blacking out, are not making wildly stupid errors in judgement (like driving drunk, domestic violence, losing loved ones and friends, neglecting life responsibilities, etc).. then keep on keeping on.

Nothing wrong with steady boozing. Just keep track of things, and don't let it escalate into a true problem.

Let me put it this way - if you feel like you have a problem, you do.

When I got back from Viet Nam and was then stationed in Germany, I drank like a fish (no, I mean seriously). Lots of anger, resentment, PTSD - all of that was coming out.

One morning, around 7am - I woke up, laying in the street in Heidelberg, with people stepping over me. I told myself then - "Jesus man - this shit HAS to stop!"

I started cutting my drinking back - to the point where all these years later - I 'Might" drink 3-4 beers a year and that's it.

I think that - and the idea that my Wife would have kicked me to the curb 35 years ago pretty much put the kabash on my drunkeness....and let's face it - I was a stinking drunk after Viet Nam.

vailpass 11-12-2017 02:28 PM
