Jon Gruden signs 10-year $100M deal to be Raiders HC

ROFL Holy ****.

Good ****ing god.
|
Hell. I’d coach the Raiders for $100,000,000.
|
This one has Al Davis rolling in his grave.
|
Also, this contract is going to help a lot of assistants get jobs. If experienced/successful HC’s start asking for 10 years nobody is going to hire em.
|
Is Chucky still working the ESPN booth in our game tomorrow?
|
Cmon guys, that's only 10 million a year...
|
I honestly think really, really highly of Gruden but this is just absolutely insane. Not even so much the annual value but the length. The odds of any coach in any sport deserving or realistically lasting TEN YEARS must be 100000-to-1. WTF. To me, beyond the desperation, this is basically the owner saying, "Here is $100m for you to have us in the playoffs immediately and win a Super Bowl within 3-4 years." (Knowing full well you fire the guy a couple years later.)
|
Daaaaaamn!

Lmao

Ha....good luck with that. Your QB sucks....better find another one.
And...back to hating Chucky we go. |
I'm OK with this . He never was real good . the only way he won a SB was Tony Dungy passing him a team that was ready.

This is bound to end up a huge disappointment.
Reminds me of Shanny at Washington. |

I really like the set of head coaches we have in the division now.
|
Jon Gruden just pulled the heist of the century so far. Desperation Raiders much?!
|
That's an insane contract. I'm glad they're dumb enough to do it. ****ing morons are going to move to a shiny new stadium with an overpaid coach and lay a fat turd all over Vegas.
|
Chucky will put asses in the seats in Vegas, but 10 years is ridiculous.
|
Raiders are locked into an average coach for 10 years...what's not to like?

10 years says that you think this guy is a shoe-in to be great... you think he's taking you to the SB for certain.
Insane limb to go out on. |
Quote:
Wonder if a team, who gets in the play-offs but never quite makes it to winning a SB, will hire him away later, just to win a SB trophy? |
They paid him $10 million a year and these are his assistants?
Greg Olson - OC - Former Rams QB coach Paul Guenther - DC - Former Bengals DC Rich Bisaccia - ST - Former Cowboys STs coach |
If Gruden gets this, what's Belichick worth?
|
Honestly I’m just glad to get him out of the booth.
|
His W/L record is .540 over 11 seasons...so essentially an 8-8 lifetime HC.
Raiders gonna Raider... |

Has Gruden confirmed ( haven't seen/heard anything from his camp ) this twitter report, yet?
|
Quote:
He’s a good coach, most people would tell you hiring him is probably worth the risk. Then they find out the risk is 9 figures and then tell the Raiders they’re nuts. |
We're ****ed.
|
So they've got Mascara making $25MM/per and Chucky Corona at $10MM/per.
That's a lot of scratch wrapped up in mediocrity. |

I'm still not convinced that he's league ready but we shall see. He wasn't the wildly successful destroyer of worlds that time has painted him as. He had some good years and some pretty bad ones. He took over a team that was SB ready, beat his old squad because he knew their plays and then proceeded to turn that team into a .500 squad. He never took over woebegone squads and yet went to the playoffs all of 5 times in 11 years. Andy's gone 12 times in 19 and 4 times in 5 despite taking over far worse franchises both times. He's an 'offensive guru' who's teams in TB were never in the top half of the league in points (never a single time) despite having his fingerprints all over them over the latter part of his run there. He's fine. He's not a bad coach (Vance Joseph...HA!), but I wouldn't go so far as to say he's a particularly good one. I'd rather have Andy and by a fair amount. And he's been in a broadcast booth for a decade or so - that's a tough ask for him to just show up ready for the grind and with the energy he had 10 years ago. But hey, to each their own. The guy may be Vermiel part 2 and be a problem. But I'm not going to worry too much about it either way - there's no assurances that he will and we have a new hotness coming in under center. I'm not going to lose sleep over the possibility that Gruden is as much steak as sizzle. His history suggests he probably isn't. |

Beloved coach for the franchise and major splash for the Vegas move. Meh. It is what is. Most reaction here is just Raider hate.

Gruden's best years were working with vet laden teams of guys who knew what they were doing, that is completely not what today's NFL is.

I just don't feel like that team was quite as bad as the record they had. I guess the same argument can be made for the team Andy took over in KC but they were a pretty forgettable team the years prior as well, with the blip being the one playoff year. |
This contract right here now...this is a contract that I like to call The Big Enchilaaaada!

Raiders gonna Raider. No matter where they call home.
|
I think he will have immediate success with the Raiders just because of the talent they have. Long term...not so sure
