Renegade 02-26-2018 12:51 PM

So basically a third round next year and fourth this year?

Sassy Squatch 02-26-2018 12:52 PM

I will say, if Reid wants to give a condescending non answer like he did with the Sutton situation, then its time to run him out.

Direckshun 02-26-2018 12:53 PM

Just FYI:

Quote:

Originally Posted by Direckshun (Post 13092630)
Due to the wheelings and dealings of Dorsey and Veach, it can be easy to be confused about what picks the Chiefs have and where.

Normally, teams get 7 picks, one in each round:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

However:
  • The Chiefs spent their 1st rounder this year, moving up for QB Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft's 1st round.
  • They also spent their 5th rounder this year trading for backup swing tackle Cam Erving out of Cleveland.
  • They also spent their 6th in an effort to trade off CB Marcus Peters.
  • They also spent their 7th this year in a trade last year for CB Kenneth Acker from the 49ers.
That leaves us here:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

The Chiefs likely have several picks coming in, however:
  • The Chiefs have acquired a 3rd rounder when they traded off Alex Smith.
  • The Chiefs have received a 2018 4th and a 2019 2nd when they traded off Marcus Peters.
  • The Chiefs have received a 6th round compensatory pick for Nick Foles.
  • The Chiefs traded training camp tackle Isaiah Battle to the Seahawks for a conditional 7th rounder.
  • The Chiefs traded backup DE David King to the Titans for a conditional 7th rounder.
  • The Chiefs traded CB Marcus Cooper last season for a conditional 7th this year.
That leaves us here:

2.
3. <---- Smith trade
3.
4.
4. <---- Peters trade
6. <---- Foles compensatory
7. <---- Battle conditional
7. <---- King conditional
7. <---- Cooper conditional

And that, right there, is currently what the Chiefs 2018 NFL Draft looks like.
(Though I'd bet anything that Veach will move all over the place on the 3rd day of the draft.)

The Chiefs have also made a pair of trades that affect the 2019 NFL Draft:
  • The Chiefs received a 2019 2nd round pick in the trade of CB Marcus Peters.
  • The Chiefs traded a 2019 4th rounder to the Buffalo Bills for ILB Reggie Ragland.
  • The Chiefs also traded WR Rod Streater for the 49ers for a conditional 7th round swap of draft picks (i.e. since it's very likely the Chiefs will be better than the 49ers in 2018, they'll have a lower draft pick in 2019 -- so if Streater met whatever conditions the teams set, their draft picks will swap).
This leaves the 2019 Chiefs Draft currently looking like this:

1.
2.
2 (Peters).
3.
4.
5.
6.
7 (Streater).
7.

Don't get used to it. If there's anything we know about this Veach kid, it's that he does not sit on his laurels.

ToxSocks 02-26-2018 12:53 PM

Kudos to Veach. Had to get rid of a player nobody wanted, INCLUDING Dorsey. Got decent compensation. Rumor is that Peters not only got into it with Sutton, but also had it out with Dave Toub on the team bus. Glad it's finally over and the Chiefs can move on. BTW, this doesn't happen unless Hunt and Reid signs off on it. And thanks to Simply Red for resetting with a new thread. The other thread must now hold several records here at CP.

How exactly do you plan to go about that?

You really think anyone has that ability?

We have a new stud QB under center, our hopeful homegrown drafted franchise QB and you think you are going to run the HC out of town? How you going to do that by getting fans to not go to games and miss seeing Mahomes start his career?

I think we tend to overvalue what teams will give up for certain players draft wise.

QB's get first round picks. That's probably it.

BlackOp 02-26-2018 12:58 PM

Peters would have to beat the shit out of one of the coaches to get this kind of return...and push a cripple down some stairs.

On the positive side, the Chiefs acquired a second 4th round pick this year that could be used on Jaylen Samuels.

Also, the Chiefs will have a 1st and two 2nd round picks next year, which should go a long way in beefing up their front 7, especially OLBer.

To Veach's credit, he was probably informed in no uncertain terms that Peters would not be playing for the Chiefs in 2018-2019, and he did the best he could.

The real fault here has to lie with some combination of Dorsey (who drafted him), Reid (who went along with drafting him and couldn't bring him around), and Hunt (who likely had something to do with this due to off-the-field issues).

I agree. Peters dicked us by putting us in this situation and painting us in a corner. I'm not convinced that the fans, the front office, the staff didn't contribute to peters not wanting to be here anymore. But I think its hard to blame veach for this.

The only other time I recall the Chiefs trading a Hall of Fame type player was in 2009 when they traded Tony Gonzalez for what turned out to be Javier Arenas/Anthony Sherman.

Veach would really need to screw the pooch with the 4th and 2019 2nd rounder in order to be worse than that trade.
