Dirtiest High School Basketball Play Ever?

I watched this game last night since the winner was going to play our local high school team (who won 65-54 tonight) for the state title.

Here is the play:

https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media...x0v49vd4ad.jpg

https://deadspin.com/kansas-high-sch...kin-1823671758

I thought the crowd was going to riot. It was insane, and I have no idea how the kid didn’t get ejected. Justice prevailed and Hanover won the semi-final game in overtime.

Someone please embed so I can place in the OP.

You never let them get an easy lay up or dunk. You hard foul. Just like this

The team almost did, but Hanover is a ridiculously disciplined team. They knocked down the free throw, and scored another 2 making it a 5 point possession in a crucial part of the game. The poor kid that got pushed strained his back pretty bad but returned in the game. Tough SOB.

The referee and umpire(s) shouldn't be allowed to officiate a varsity contest the next season.

That is an atrocious basketball play and the guy is in a totally defenseless position.

It is not excusable at any level of basketball.

You are so wrong.

Short kid that can’t jump. I think his career after today is limited to playing Rec ball at the local YMCA.

Was this excesive, yes. Do younger men not know how to pull their punches, probably not. It's not used at any level anymore. That's your opinion about it being wrong. And I happen to disagree with it. And yes, I have played basketball before

That's a load of horseshit. A hard foul is when you try to keep the guy from scoring and there's a lot of contact. This was a dick move. That player should have had his ass kicked.

NBA 2K16 for PlayStation 4 doesn't really count as "playing basketball".

I get HS refs don't have the benefit of replay, but the only way the scoring player could have landed where he had and how he had could only have come from a shove by the defender.

Further, the defender didn't make an effort to go for the ball.

Should have been a tech at the very least to keep control of the game; the crew is lucky an MMA bout didn't break out.

Small town mentality is a little different. We are generally nice, even when someone pulls shit like this.

The guy got an intentional foul, but should have been tossed. I was pissed and it wasn't even a kid I knew. If it was one of our boys, or even my own son I would have come unglued.

And for the record, the play (and topic of this thread) is extremely dirty.

Hard fouls on players going to the bucket are supposed to be across the arms.

Period.

Deberg_1990 03-11-2018 09:05 AM

Its dirty, but probably looks alot worse than it really was.

White boy should be suspended a game IMO. Or was this the final game of the year?

Terrible foul.. could have really hurt that kid... ejection is warranted right there... this isn’t the pros...

MTG#10 03-11-2018 09:12 AM

The original view looks horrible. When you watch it from this angle in slow-mo he obviously pushed him but the kid was running so fast that his momentum made it look like he got pushed way harder than he did. Not excusing the white kid's play, he should have been T'ed and probably ejected but I dont think its quite as horrific as everyone is reacting.

Yeah, but everyone knows the result of a slight shove in that situation. Might as well be at the top of some stairs. That play is as dirty as it gets.

Exactly my take on it. Rotten play and the kid is lucky the other team didn't retaliate immediately (you can see the entire bench react like they're going to storm the court and all of them hold back). I think white kid was pissed and lashing out at a breakaway play, but I would wager he didn't expect that to happen. Not a defense of the play of the kid by any means, it was still a shitty move.

And "worst ever"? Nah. I've seen some real blatant fouls like elbows to noses and straight jab cock shots that way worse than this, imo. Still, as you said, kid should have been T'd up and booted from the game.

The kid that got pushed dunked earlier in the game, got in the face of a Centralia player and taunted him. Should have been a T, but the refs let it go.

Doesn't justify the push, but it probably contributed to the buildup. Also, the two schools are in the same league and are rivals.

Nothing aggravated me more than watching referees lose control of games in basketball. There was one in the Springfield organization that had a knack for it.. and I wasn't the only reporter goon to notice it.

Should’ve been called a foul but since Brownback bankrupted the state they probably can’t afford to pay real refs.

Not sure what goes for discipline in today's high school sports but back when I played (Long damn time ago I know) I would have been ejected from the game by the ref; no doubt in my mind. Wouldn't have mattered though because my coach would have pulled me from the game immediately if I hadn't been ejected and he would have suspended me from the team until he thought I'd learned my lesson.

Something similar happens to a local kid this year when he went up and tried to dunk.

The worst part was the opposing crowd cheering about it while the kid was still on the floor.

When I think of dirty I think of Rudy Tomjanovich getting his face mangled. That was flagrant by the kid and should been a T and ejection. I hope the coach made him sit the rest of the way. Dirtiest no I think Bowser defined in my mind the dirty fouls.

When cowards do shit like this, going after them and knocking their block off is the only way they're going to learn.

He only did this because he knew he could get away w/ it because he was protected by the coaches, refs, possibly a police officer or 2, in case things turned ugly. This guy does this in a pickup game at the local gym or on the playground, he'd get his ****in ass kicked.

As a friend/teammate you immediately go over and kick the shit out of him, and let the school admin dish out punishment later and deal w/ it.

An ejection and a possible suspension isn't going to teach this coward a damn thing. I dont promote fighting in school but as a male, as a competitor that isn't right and you have to do something about that. That wasn't a hard foul...that was a horrible cheap shot and the guy couldve been badly hurt if he lands the wrong way. Sometimes you have to let the dog off the chain and let some ol fashioned street justice take it's toll. This would be one of those times.
