AMC's The Terror

Im a bit into the second episode but so far I am thoroughly enjoying this show. The tone...even the cinematography is excellent considering the isolated situation of the ships. Also, it is well cast....especially in terms of the two captains....specifically Sir John.

Not sure how to describe it but the writers did a great job of making you feel the mounting hopelessness of the situation. Minus the sub zero temperatures, it's as if you're there.

It's early in the series but there's already been some creepiness that Im assuming is just the tip of the iceberg (pun intended).

Im probably in a minority here that like this series or that have even watched it yet. But so far, thumbs up!

Easy 6 03-29-2018 04:18 AM

Figured I'd like it just from the previews and wasnt disappointed, I needed a new show to get into and this seems to be it

Easy 6 03-29-2018 04:36 AM

Whats going to throw me off, is that they seem to be making this a supernatural thriller where some 3x oversized polar bear, or other kind of monster is responsible for the two crews disappearance

When occams razor says their ships were crushed in the ice pack, and they all died out on the ice somewhere

Simply Red 03-29-2018 07:56 AM

Hmm - I will keep an eye out for it and then binge - may be one to save for next winter - or if we get a string of thunderstorms roll in.

The series is adapted from a novel that used the real expedition as the basis for a monster horror story. So it's not theorizing that's what killed them. It's simply taking a historical event and using it as a backdrop.

vailpass 03-29-2018 01:12 PM

Is this the show that has Julius Caesar, Marcus Brutus, Mance Rayder, and Edmure Tully in it?

This certainly took a turn last night, Ciaran Hinds went down hard...

Yep! I wasn't expecting that at all...just crazy!

Easy 6 04-03-2018 05:53 PM

So what is the swarthy little dude up to, the one who confronted the taller curly hair guy in his cabin... stepped from the room for s second, but were they talking about 'buggering' each other?

And if so, what angle could that possibly play?

I'm loving the dialogue and cinematography, but the crux of where its all going still somewhat eludes me

Baby Lee 04-13-2018 11:34 AM

A video series on the background, more episodes on youtube

Getting ready to leave the house, but I'll be checking that out soon BL... its actually a very well done show thus far, easily the most watchable thing going on monday nights

When this bear is finally revealed, it better be a real mother****er, though...

MTG#10 04-14-2018 12:20 PM

Just finished all 10 episodes. Outstanding show.

The Terror...I dont remember nuns, monkeys and jukeboxes or Mongolian chefs. I remember one monkey on board but maybe I wasn't paying real close attention to the early episodes.

For anyone who cares, all ten episodes were apparently leaked on usenet/bitorrent, Ive already finished the entire series. I wasn't even aware the show wasn't very far along on AMC until seeing this thread.

Ah, didn't know about the leak. Enjoying it, but not enough to binge instead of waiting.

It gets better. Its one of the best new shows Ive watched in several years. Unfortunate they couldn't stretch it more than one season.

I guess AMC pushed out the entire series for its "Premier" customers, that's why you can find all ten episodes online.

Okay now I know you're just ****ing around...actually I was pretty sure after your first post but Baby Lee confused me. Well played.

Easy 6 04-18-2018 04:58 PM

This past monday was the best show so far... the captain is a raging drunk and has surrendered command while trying to detox himself, and of course that bear attack was very well done

Whoever does the score for this is very good at their craft

Have been enjoying it and love to hear it only gets better.

Binged the first 6 episodes that've aired on AMC yesterday. Soooooo good.

Bumped because I literally cannot believe this thread is only two pages. This series is absolutely nuts and on par with Chernobyl. Frankly I think it's better. The atmosphere, the acting, the suspense, jesus this is some CRIMINALLY underrated television. Should be a 9 on IMDb not ****ing 8.

SAGA45 10-12-2019 10:41 PM

I like season a little bit more than this season but Im still enjoying it. Big fan of Asian horror films so this season was just what the doctor ordered.

DJ's left nut 10-15-2019 04:14 PM

Haven't watched the 2nd season. Just didn't grab me.

The 1st was outstanding.

Jared Harris is the reason I watched it after his turn in Mad Men. And his performance in The Terror is why I watched Chernobyl.

Just an excellent actor.

siberian khatru 10-16-2019 09:29 AM

Had no idea they were making this into an anthology and there is a second season.

I agree completely with DJ.

He's great in the first season of the Expanse.

Yes.

He's a terrific actor and a real chameleon. There have been several times I've seen him and had to go, "Wait, that's Jared Harris!"

I know, but he doesn't look like him (or really sound like him ... probably hasn't drank enough).
