Hue Jackson fired!

I was watching First Take - they're literally in the middle of a conversation about firing Hue Jackson - and the woman comes in with breaking news that he's fired. Hmmm - hopefully this doesn't fire them up.

siberian khatru 10-29-2018 09:53 AM

Dammit, why couldn't they wait a week?

Reerun_KC 10-29-2018 09:54 AM

Like its gonna be some sort of a rally cry?

When one for the gipper or something?

Chiefs roll...

Rain Man 10-29-2018 09:54 AM

He's led them to their best record in years this season. But yeah, he's not head coach material.

My only worry is that I anecdotally feel like teams very often win their first game after a mid-season coach firing. It's like they put away all of the bad stuff and just go play. Then they fall apart after that first game. So we need to be wary of a trap.

Jerm 10-29-2018 09:55 AM

...why didn't they just fire him before the season?

Jesus what a dumpster fire that organization is.

BigRedChief 10-29-2018 09:56 AM

I don’t think they rally around Todd Haley.

RealSNR 10-29-2018 09:56 AM

One of the many pretty good position coaches who never should have been a head coach.

Much less get a second chance at a head coach position.

Much less be given the hardest team to coach in the NFL.

MVChiefFan 10-29-2018 09:56 AM

CRAP!!! The Browns are going to be fired up now. We’re only gonna beat them by 20.

RealSNR 10-29-2018 09:57 AM

Hope ReTodd has fun losing!

wheeler08 10-29-2018 09:59 AM

Are they making Toad the interim head coach?

Yeah, we're all wiping our brow in relief, escaping the Bronco offensive. But I think both their offense and their defense are capable of outperforming the Broncos' respective units in the right situation.

The Browns are a buttload of random talent in need of direction, and they've been put through some forging fires recently.

This is not good news for us.

WhiteWhale 10-29-2018 10:02 AM

Stupid.

If Jackson was on the bubble, there's no sane reason to bring him back after his last 2 seasons. Just another example of how dysfunctional the Browns are.

I think Mayfield could be good, but Cleveland is going to ruin him.

Could be like the Romeo Crennel win over Aaron Rodgers when he took over.

We need to kill these guys fast on Sunday.

Hopefully Mahomes and the rest of the offense are sharp next Sunday. Browns will be extremely motivated. Chiefs gotta bring 40+ points this time.

Reerun_KC 10-29-2018 10:06 AM

So whats gonna make the Browns so extremely motivated?

RealSNR 10-29-2018 10:07 AM

Why are you guys so ****ing scared of Todd ****ing Haley?

He's one of the biggest dipshits in the entire NFL.

carcosa 10-29-2018 10:08 AM

lmao c'mon guys

The Browns are a mess. Baker is talented but turns the ball over a bunch. The offense can toast any defense.

Canning a guy who has gone like 2-100 as a head coach is not going to fire them up enough to overcome this Chiefs team.

Flying High D 10-29-2018 10:09 AM

I think it's the whole "any given Sunday" mentality. Every NFL game is tough and somewhat of a crapshoot. This just adds another emotional wrinkle to that for the Poop Browns.

That being said - Chiefs by 17.

But they will get the discipline hue refused to give. Rumors that players were showing up late to meetings, not following dress codes, etc... I think the browns hoped to ride hue out for the season knowing they'd fire him. Hues dumb comments about playcalling forced their hand. Now theyre in an uncomfortable spot where Dorsey probably has to promote one of the two coordinators, which I can't imagine he wants to do.

Yeah, I just don't think the Chiefs have the mentality of taking any game for granted. They trust their gameplan and their talent and have a lot of confidence, but they use that confidence to boost their effort, not to coast. If this were a team full of lackadaisical doofuses, maybe I'd be a bit worried. But it ain't, so I'm not.

The hard part about promoting anyone is if you don't want them next year, you have to demote them (which means you lose them). Sounds like mularkey may be a target and honestly it's not the worst option for a rebuild. If you're looking for a 1 year fix another creative strategy is to promote AL Saunders with the clear objective of hiring a new head coach next year.

The browns have been good enough this year that with less sloppy play and less idiotic late game management, they'd be winning games. A new coach cleans some of that up. I'm not at all scared of that. But I do wish it happened next week instead of this week.

Good move by the browns. Will haley really be upset about it? From hard knocks, seemed he was most fired up about hue being too soft on players, and hes right. Shouldn't be an issue with Saunders.

We took the best shots from Bill Belicheck in Foxborough and it came down to who got the ball last. We beat Denver playing their best football. Twice. It's time to accept that Mahomes has changed the fortunes of this franchise and let go of your past fears.

Basileus777 10-29-2018 10:36 AM

Al Saunders, now that's a blast from the past.

Kliff Timothy Kingsbury (born August 9, 1979) is an American football coach and former quarterback.During his playing career, Kingsbury held and currently holds many Division I (NCAA) passing records, and won the Sammy Baugh Trophy in 2002

Pat Mahomes and Andy Reid are bringing the college attitude to the NFL

Why Not? 10-29-2018 10:36 AM

Got to admit, I'm a bit more concerned now but I'm basing that on the gambling trend of betting on teams that fire their coach before a game. However, 3 things calm me

1. PMII

2. Bernie from Weekend at Bernie's named interim HC

3. Browns already had a game they were super amped and pumped up for. Week 1. They got a less than elite Steelers team at home and got 5 turnovers. And could only tie.

I had hoped that Reid would bring him as qbs coach or to backfill Childress' role as special assistant. I doubt any team would bring him as an oc just yet.
