Old performers...Gordon Lightfoot
Not sure many care or even know who Gordon Lightfoot is...
Wife and I went to St Joe last night to see this 81 year old legendary songwriter do a concert. What a thrill for us who remember him from our days in the late 60s... The voice has lost range and his stamina shows some weakness. But the lyrics and passion for his music and love of his audience was amazing. If you are not familiar, take some time out and enjoy what music a great songwriter can do and listen to a 12 string guitar in the hands of a master.... I feel blessed to have seen Gordon in person... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LfyDs6uXww0" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I’m only in my early 40’s but I dig me some GL. Would be very cool to see him live. I saw BB King live when he was 81 and he didn’t seem to miss a beat.

The audience in that opening video is very polite and mannerly.

I trend to music that tells a story. Whether it be country, blues or rock. He could tell a story!

I thought I liked Gordon Lightfoot, but after playing video in the OP I'm reconsidering. Holy lord that was terrible.

Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours? The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her They might have split up or they might have capsized They may have broke deep and took water And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters |
Big fan. Saw him live several years ago after he had recovered from being ill. Was really glad I had the chance to see him.

I was pretty late to Gordon Lightfoot -- discovered Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald maybe 15 years ago. Was amazed.
Great performer. |
I live in St Joe and didn't even know he was performing.Where was the show?

There were several singer/songwriters from that era that I particularly liked. In no particular order - Lightfoot, Chapin, Denver, Croce, Carole King.
I loved Harry Chapin the first time I heard him. John Denver, I thought was a tad quirky when he first jumped out there, but today I LOVE listening to his stuff. I don't know - guess it just comes with age? |

Aside from the more obvious John Denver songs, this was one of my favorites: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nkwVgbkSCE8" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I heard Denny Matthews say once on a Royals broadcast that Lightfoot is his favorite musician. And yeah, he's frickin' GREAT.
|
I have tickets to see Bob Newhart in a few weeks.

See him do what? Attempt a successful bowel movement? |

I like older performers. They come out-do their music-be done. Boston many years ago played 3 hours and as done. No break. Eagles took one break. Phil Collins-did not move from the place where he limped on stage. |

I also saw Jackson Browne a few months ago and he was also very good. So glad I got to see him perform at least once before one of us ceased to exist. Last year I was lucky enough to see Van Morrison one more time and what a great show he put on. He can still bring it as well as anyone. I love me some Van the Man. One of my two or three favorites all time. It just goes to show that advancing age doesn't always diminish a great musician's ability to perform at a high level. They may have to adapt but when they still know what they are doing it can be a powerful thing. I've always loved the old blues masters like John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy Williamson, Jimmy Witherspoon, etc. without ever once thinking how old they were, just that they were still killing it. |
I swear Gordon Lightfoot played in Duluth on an anniversary of the sinking.
|
Old guys got it.
Saw Tony Bennett last week. He was so great that we both pooped our pants |
