Move Chris Jones to DE and Trade Next Year
 

Jones needs to be at DE. He is not a 3 down back inside. He is an amazing pass rusher, even though he was quiet tonight, he is a great pass rusher. But that's about all he seems to be able to do. He gets blown off the ball and\or ****s up his run assignments.

Either way, I can't see paying him next season when we need LB's badly. Tag and trade him. Unless he just becomes Donald at DE and then even still.

I said in another thread I'd trade Jones for a stud mlb in a heartbeat.

Theres simply not 20 mil per year production there. We already gave that money to Clark, and well, he was a massive force on the defense tonight. I guess the talk about him being dinged held water because they said he felt better than he had all season.

Forced 2 turnovers on what should have been a strip sack and pressured the final throw that was picked. Had another strip sack that the chargers recovered.

Jones is a double edged sword. Cant pay that much for that.

Whatever we have to do to get Pennel on the field more...

Once again he totally destroyed their run game when he was in and even had a sack.

Pennel\Nadi seems to be a winning combo. The fact they benched Pennel last weeks is mind bottling. Hopefully they see the light the rest of the season. Dude doesn't have to be a pass rushing stud. Just stuff the middle.

I'd take what we gave for Clark for Jones.

This. Especially with spags hinting that pennell was a liability in pass rush as the reason he didnt dress. Dude had a sack on Rivers tonight.

Jones + Watkins = 2 2nd round picks.

And massive bullet dodge on salaries.

Jones is damn good. I don’t move him unless you get a 1st and a 3rd or 4th in return.

I think in a Tag and Trade we would get a first and third for jones.

Think about it, what would a team give up to get one of the top 3 best DT for sacks and a top 10 DE who is young and a great locker room guy?

Good luck finding one in the draft, you may have to draft top 10 to get one like him. I think we will get a first and third but for sure a first.

He is worth way more than a second.

Chris Jones needs to spend the rest of this year learning how to play DE. If he can learn how to "lean" rush to go along with his bull rush then I think we consider keeping him. If he's still basically a DT playing DE at the end of the year, trade him.

He has so much to learn, i hope he's trying.

So you think Dee Ford is more highly valued than Chris Jones?

They are pretty similarly valued, pretty similar players, but I think teams understood last off-season that you don't want give 1st+ and 20 mil per year for borderline pro bowlers.

Would love to find a team that is so desperate that they give 1st for Jones but just don't see it.

Man, I watched a Cowgirls game the other day and I saw a play where the Running back got to the secondary and I saw a blurrr of a figure come from behind, like a Great White come up from underneath a seal launching for the kill with speed and power loll, no lie!! Yup, It was Demarcus Lawrence making a play! Not only does this guy get sacks but plays hard all the way to the whistle. He deserved his pay day. I love Jones but man once the play gets by him he ****ing Loafs or trots after who ever the ball carrier is and I see it every game! Not sure if it’s a business decision by him now to keep from getting hurt or just laziness. I still like to sign him but wouldn’t be pissed if we tagged and traded.

I can't see him going anywhere. The ability to generate a consistent 4 man rush is a defensive coordinators wet dream. A healthy Jones & Clark will help the secondary tremendously.

He's not. When he plays inside on running downs we get gashed.

Probably doesn’t want his schlong to flop out and hurt someone.

Yeah, right now we play better team defense with Pennel/Nnadi/Saunders rotating inside, and Jones on the end.


And it's not even close. When you can take away the run and make the other team one dimensional, you at least have a chance at getting stops.

Right here is why he’s not a DE

Don't want to get in the middle of the whole tag and/or trade argument but, damn, with Pennel in the middle plugging the run our whole defense seems to play much better.

Donald has 1.5-2x the sacks, solo tackles, and forced fumbles as Jones.

Love Jones, but I'm not paying 90% of the salary for 60% of the production, especially since he's still a questionable fit in a 4-3.

He has a lot to learn about playing DE. Can he learn it?

He also doesn't have a complete game at DT. He only seems to care about sacks or TFL.


Are we really going to give a 100 million dollar contract to a player who isn't a complete player at any defensive position?

I still wonder if our opinion of Chris jones is influenced by the fact that we've played an EXTREMELY run heavy schedule. I would think we'd use him very differently vs a new England than we would Baltimore.

We've sucked against the run for quite a while. There are 2 people on this DL from last year, Jones and Nadi We've seen Nadi stuff the middle game after game. We've seen Jones either get blown off the ball or otherwise not be able to play run effectively game after game. We've seen Pennel play the run better than Jones for a couple of games.

Jones is a pass rusher and nothing more. That seems to be the sad reality of it. We need run stuffers in interior of the DL. We can't have a hole at DT and shit LB's.

If we had better LB's maybe we could mask Jones' suckage in the run game.

Sure, but we'll come across teams who want to spread us out. And who don't run well between the tackles. We'll probably want speed and interior line that can push the pocket in. I love jones flexibility to play either role. Pennel... I'm not sure if he'll be nearly as effective and I suspect that's why he was cut for so long.

And don't get me wrong... We absolutely need Pennel.

But yet Terez says we will extend Jones ugh
