He turns 79 July 13 |
So Disney is going to try and ruin another beloved franchise.

As long as they're not blasting Indy into space to do zero-G whip tricks, I think we'll be fine. |
Please...
Make it stop. |
So Indy is 37 in Raiders which is set in 1936.
So In this new one he will be approximately 70 years old. |

Ford was absolutely awesome in Call of the Wild.
I have no doubt he can pull this off. |
Is the movie going to be about an archeologist who loots Indiana Jones' tomb?
|
I am not enthusiastic about this. Indy is not supposed to be an old guy. They did that schtick in the last piece of shit. Do you really want an ancient Indy now?
Either pass the torch or put this franchise to bed. Preferably the latter. |

I waited until Crystal Skull was out on DVD for a few years to check it out and while it wasn't great, I did like it better than Temple of Doom.
I seriously have zero interest in this film and will just catch it on Disney+ in 2023 or whenever because the logline and cast are just too on point. It just feels like a money grab without any reason to tell this story, other than cash and residuals. |
It will debut Harrison Ford's walker

Do you think Ford looks worse than Humphrey Bogart in The African Queen? https://oldschoolmanblog.files.wordp...0_layer-11.jpg https://i.ytimg.com/vi/7_cYPgzl0VA/maxresdefault.jpg Yes, Harry can pull this off. |

James Bond went against a number of enemies, from Goldfinger to Blofeld to Scaramanga to Octopussy and even other "Double O" agents. This movie already feels like it's been done and it hasn't even begun shooting. |
Spielberg is a producer? I guess this is happening again

Cant be any worse than the First Order! |

I truly hope it's great and if I hear anything exciting in the coming months, I'll be sure to share. |
At this point, I'd almost prefer a reboot to a geriatric Indy. What's he going to do, wheeze on them?

I really think this will work fine with a good script.
The problem with Indy IV wasn't Ford, or even Lebouf. Or even ancient aliens - that CONCEPT is fine, but the execution was terrible. It was a bad script. I've always liked the idea of post WWII Nazis doing anything as a story concept. I hope we get to go to Argentina. In fact, Hitler should be in this. LMAO |
Quote:

Ancient Aliens WERE a religion for some cultures, is the way you have to look at it.
It's how they handled that concept that was off. A giant ****ing grey and a flying saucer in your face at the end ain't it. |

Hopefully Harrison Fords finger returns in this.

The monkeys/Mutt swinging from trees part killed 4 for me. Might be the single stupidest scene for an adventure movie ever.
They HAVE to get back to practical effects. The CGI is horrible, and what made Indy great was semi-plausible stunts. Indy didn't have to use his brain to discover much, either. Oxley led them my the nose almost the entire way. |

I love Raiders, Last Crusade was pretty good and I can even enjoy Crystal Skull, but I've always found Temple to be boring. I've watched it a couple times and still have no clue what it's about. I find myself completely tuned out within 15 minutes of turning it on. |
Quote:
But the reality is it's about George Lucas' divorce. LMAO I get that people might not like Temple of Doom because it tries to be funnier, and a lot of it was shot on sound stages, but I've never heard anyone say they don't comprehend it. After escaping Shanghai gangsters, Indy is on his way to Delhi, the plane crashes, some kind villagers take him in and demand he brings back their magic rock in return for helping him, so he overnights at a palace in the middle of nowhere and discovers an ancient thugee cult has stolen the magic rock and enslaved the village's children. Then he has to go do Indy shit to make the world right again. That's it. Now you understand the movie. Thanks and enjoy the bridge scene because it's ****ing awesome. |
Love Temple of Doom! Yes, the plot is simplistic and the villains are caricatures.
But Spielberg at the top of his action game. |
Temple of Doom sucked balls. If Spielberg ever made a shittier movie I haven't seen it. And I've seen 1941.
|
Temple of Doom is better than Crystal Skull, c'mon.
Not to mention The Lost World. LMAO |
Temple is better. But shortround and whatshername make repeated viewings painful.
The jungle monkeys cgi and Indy surviving a nuke by hiding in a fridge that gets blown a 1/4 mile away.....for shame. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Quote:
And while Lost World was no prize, it was still better than Temple of Doom. I remember seeing it in the theater when it first came out. Walked in expecting Raiders; walked out thinking "what the ****?" That stupid ass opening scene where they escape the plane in a raft, slide down a mountain and land in a river was the big budget version of the opening of Land of the Lost. The only thing missing was the banjo music. :shake: And that annoying little brat and constantly screaming Kate Capshaw were Jar Jar before there was a Jar Jar. |
Quote:

Brilliant!
To each his own, I suppose, on Short Round and Willie. I love 'em both. I suppose it's a lot like Phantom Menace for kids. I couldn't have been older than 11 or 12 when I saw Temple of Doom and instantly loved it. |
Quote:
It certainly didn't help that the original was so good. |
Quote:
I thought the movie from garbage from start to finish. Short Round was annoying as **** and Kate Capshaw wasn't much better. I might be in the minority but I absolutely loved Last Crusade and still believe it was the perfect ending for Indy and his pals. Nothing beats riding off into the sunset... |

If I'm flipping channels and it's on, it's one of those movies I just can't turn off until it's over. |
Connery was only 12 years older than Ford, but they sold that very well.

Crusade is pretty close to a perfect movie for me. The first as well. |

I've also had on my head the diving helmet worn by Ed Harris in the Abyss. That one was definitely worn by Harris, since for the scenes it was used his face was shown. He's got one of Downey's Iron Man helmets, but I was fairly sure my big ol' melon head wouldn't fit in that one, and I didn't want to risk breaking it trying. This stuff is massively valuable. |

Crusade all the way, the PEN is mightier than the sword!
|
Crusade was awesome because it got back to what Indy does...cool shit in the desert, in pursuit of an ancient (but well known) religious artifact, fight scenes and killing Nazi's. Though they calmed down the killing stuff in that one. Add in Sean Connery and shiiiiit...you have one of the best movies ever...
Temple was a departure, still Indy, but in a completely different context. He was not on the hunt for the Shankira stones, he literally fell into it...Then you had his screwable but annoying leading lady and the deathnell for most all movies...a kid side kick. Even with all that, I still loved Temple. I dunno. It's Indy. ****ing Crystal Skull was NOT Indy. It was a tired old man running around confused half the time. We all went in wanting it to be Indy, and instead we got a bunch of CGI shit and completely over the top fights and scenarios. Best fight in the whole thing was in the diner or whatever on the college campus. Again, I have no confidence that they will not **** up another one. Hollywood has been screwing with my youth (Star Wars, Jurrasic Park, Ghostbusters, etc) for too long. They need to just knock that shit off. ...and yes, I will go and see this... |
Quote:
Most of us will go drop a $20 bill on a Saturday afternoon to go watch Indy no matter how good or bad it is. |

The diving helmet from the abyss? Godamnit that's awesome. |

Sounds like there is going to be some "younger Indy" flashbacks to the 40s.
Here is the stuntman playing young Indy - he's wearing a Ford mask. https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2021/06...2981387924.jpg |

So I just read that the prologue will be WWII era. So Ford will be CGI de aged for sure.
