Frank Clark no longer ****ing sucks

Ok, guys. Frank has stopped drinking and is serious about this season. I can’t stop drinking for more than 8hrs at a time so Clark’s abstinence is notable and impressive. He and Andy had a heart to heart, shared some cheeseburgers (Frank is probably now also vegan and went Impossible Burger), chugged some Mr. Pibb, and came to an understanding.

Watch his presser from today. It’s probably one of the most real and honest things I’ve seen from a player. If you’re rooting against Frank Clark after that you’re probably either repressing some demons in your life or are related to Red Dawg.

This is a safe space to celebrate Frank Clark this season. 8 sack minimum. Let’s build this guy up rather than choosing to spend the season breaking him down.

Join me on the Shark bandwagon. There’s blood in the water.

And the obligatory: keep doubting Frank ****ing Clark.

If we win the SB I’m buying a Frank Jersey

He’s also being very nice with the new DE George. So I’m hyped

Hog's Gone Fishin 07-30-2022 09:35 PM

Yes, I had a genuinely good feeling about him after watching his presser. He says his stomach issues have resolved since he quit drinking. He looks to be in great shape.

493rd 07-30-2022 09:39 PM

Dude will have 6 sacks this year and think he’s a player.

TEX 07-30-2022 09:39 PM

"There's blood in the water."...He's gonna go straight up gangsta this season!

rocknrolla 07-30-2022 09:41 PM

Saw the presser. Talk is cheap. Cautiously optimistic.

TimeForWasp 07-30-2022 09:45 PM

It's great to have reasons not to hate our players.

GloucesterChief 07-30-2022 09:45 PM

Remains to be seen.

BossChief 07-30-2022 09:45 PM

I’m glad to see him with a clear mind and a healthier body, but until he starts to show “prime Frank Clark” on Sundays, I’m not convinced. Let’s not forget that this transformed guy didn’t show up for any OTAs…and showed up late to camp.

I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but we also can’t outright ignore recent red flags that contradict the message he’s trying to portray here.

Absolutely right. But were any of us cautiously optimistic previously?

It makes me feel better about Veach. They actually feel like there may be more juice from Clark and that’s a much more defensible rationale for retaining him than thinking last season was a reasonable performance to pay/extend him (obvious deadweight loss fallacy)..

smithandrew051 07-30-2022 09:50 PM

Single season sack record this year at worst.

BossChief 07-30-2022 09:50 PM

If Frank is in prime form and Karlaftis is who we think he is…this defense is going to be NASTY.

The timing of when they signed Dunlap wasn’t a glowing appraisal of Clark, though…especially knowing that Dunlap can’t report till Wednesday.

RealSNR 07-30-2022 09:53 PM

Be the guy for the whole goddamn season. I’m tired of this “But at least the playoffs so worth it!!” bullshit

dlphg9 07-30-2022 09:55 PM

Oh Jesus, **** off with this shit.

RealSNR 07-30-2022 09:57 PM

And yes, I AM going to judge him against the bad OLs.

He better ****ing wreck some shit against backups. Or at least force a double team or some shit.

Kiimo 07-30-2022 09:59 PM

If his stomach issues cleared up after quitting drinking I think we can scratch Crohn's off the list

ThyKingdomCome15 07-30-2022 09:59 PM

Ya know, I can't say it was just Frank. There were a number of big names on that defense that looked like they were dogging it. HB was all honey, no badger. Chris Jones was a ghost for much of the season. Reed was a bust from the beginning. Anthony looked like he was playing with concrete shoes on his feet. Then you have the guys who simply hit the wall the Sorensen and Niemann.

This draft was defensive heavy and the Chiefs brought in a bunch of young hungry talent. That CIN game accompanied with the Tyreek trade was a wake up call. I'm glad to see it appears Frank got the message. Hats off to the best coach in football for shooting him straight. All respect there.

Someone should start a poll for Frank’s sack total this year, but the only options are:

12-15
15.5-18
18.5-22
22.5+

ThyKingdomCome15 07-30-2022 10:26 PM

I think seeing George K get after is very good for Frank as well. A high motor guy like that sets the tone day in and day out.

BossChief 07-30-2022 10:54 PM

I’d love to see him return to prime form as much as anyone.

When he talked shit on Derrick Henry and went out and backed it up, it was stuff of Chief LEGEND.

The best part was after the game ended with him sacking Tanehill, the man went and got a KC flag and went around the stadium pumping the crowd up like crazy before we were presented with the Lamar Hunt trophy. I’m not sure you could live a Chiefs player more than Frank Clark in that moment.

To see his fall into what we saw last year is hard to see. Hopefully, he has his shit together and can give us an impact player at a premium position that we didn’t expect.

oldman 07-30-2022 11:03 PM

He knows he could be walking the street next year. Too many of these guys rely on pure talent in their 20s and when Father Time starts catching up to them it's too late. We've been wooed by words before, so until we see production, all is not forgiven.

Some people dial up ex-girlfriends after drinking too much and other people buy uzis and carry them around. Who am I to judge how people spend their most intoxicated moments?

Comanche 07-31-2022 05:48 AM

All positive signs for sure. I worry he may have gone a bit too far and dropped too much weight for a DE, however. Honestly, I hope he proves me wrong. Working with the rooks is a good thing as long as he teaches them the best techniques.

Eleazar 07-31-2022 06:05 AM

I like how he acknowledged his sub par performance last year. I also like how Andy and he had a talk that was real, no BS, and he brought it up. If nothing else, he sounded genuine. You can just look at him and see that he's made some changes, so it's not all just talk. Also I like how he's excited about Karlaftis and had some genuine comments and even an example of how George is working and learning. The usual training camp podium bullshit of "Oh, George is working hard, he's coming along, blah blah blah" is what you normally get. The story he told was real.

I like it. Back it up on the field Frank. This could be an amazing year for this defense.

Molitoth 07-31-2022 08:29 AM

Rooting for him!

Nowadays you need at least 3 good DE's to rotate so I don't get nervous about signing CD. That gets you to 3, with hopes that younger guys develop and push them for more playing time during this season and replace somebody next year.

-King- 07-31-2022 08:43 AM

Nothing like waiting until the season you were almost cut to start trying. We should all applaud that.

Kiimo 07-31-2022 08:48 AM

MahomesMagic 07-31-2022 08:50 AM

I already wrote him off as washed last year so if he's even somewhat useful I would be happy.

Redbled 07-31-2022 08:55 AM

If he gets 12 sacks he will want big money again. At least we may get a nice comp pick.

alpha_omega 07-31-2022 08:57 AM

This is certainly an unforeseen turn of events.
Hope to see this thread getting bumped on game days.

Andy Reid : "Frank, I was perusing teh innerwebs last night between cheeseburgers, and I came across a thread on a website called "chiefsplanet.com" - ever heard of it?"

Frank : "**** Nah, Coach. I be drinking and watching pornhub DP videos and jacking it to the trophy got yo' daddy name on it, ya gnomesaine?"

Andy : "Yeah, well, be that as it may, there are a couple of geniuses who post on there, rabblerouser and Twisted Chief, then there's a smattering of people who are actually cool spread out amongst a cesspool of reeran mother****ers, but that doesn't matter. You know what matters, Frank?"

Frank : "Whaddat, Big Red?"

Andy : "They say you're overpriced, but that you suck at ANY price. That any JAG can do what you do for a fraction of the cost. You know why they say that, Frank?"

Frank : "ForRealForReal, it's prolly since I ain't done shit but get arrested, drink and jack off since the Super Bowl, Coach."

Andy : "Probably. Any solutions jump into that noggin of yours up there, buddy?"

Frank : "Prolly sober up and do more than stand around with my hands on my dick be a good start."

Andy : "I think we are getting somewhere..."

I am pulling hard for him to get 12 sacks not just for the season we may have because of it, but also to up his trade value next season if he's able to pull it off.

Wallcrawler 07-31-2022 09:19 AM

I was amused at his "I fly off the ball" statement.

Its good that Andy called him out on a mailed in season, and better still, he acknowledged and accepted that it was trash. Lot of players would never make that public, let alone admit that they failed.

Its a great mindset to have, and generally if the player is in the right headspace, the on field results are better than when their head isnt in the game.

As said, look no further than Tyran Mathieu for what not having your mind right can do to a really good player.

Itll be interesting to see what a revamped Frank Clark can do. He certainly couldnt be any worse than last season.

Isn't this weight (~250) what he played at while in Seattle? I'm not worried about him setting the edge on the run -- that's more technique than anything. But if he's a step quicker on his rush at this lower weight it will tell quickly.

And as Terez used to say: "The contract year is undefeated." I foresee a big year for Frank.

Easy 6 07-31-2022 09:52 AM

IowaHawkeyeChief 07-31-2022 10:06 AM

Frank has always been a decent edge setter, but his quickness has waned substantially since his first year with us. I like the "in shape" attitude and even the new hair cut and attitude. Proof is in the pudding, but it appears he is genuinely tying to get better.

One training camp press conference is enough for the dumbshit OP to let Frank Clark off the suck train? JFC.

Where was this evidence of Frank Clark’s supposed newfound commitment when he missed all of OTA’s and the mandatory minicamp despite having the highest offseason workout bonus incentive in the league?

Let’s see Frank Clark back up his talk on the field this season.

Agreed. I'll believe it when I see it from Clark. It hasn't just been one season of suck mixed with unavailable. He's paid to be a difference maker, not a placeholder.

We should be skeptical but dude looks to be in really good shape and I think it’d be very easy to catch him in a lie considering how often he would eat and drink in public. Not to mention his contract incentivizes him to play well. For now, I’m giving him the benefit of a doubt.

Hopefully Chris jones can rub off on him. Jones did a ton to improve his diet a few years ago and it really shows.

Yeah, more than fair to question his performance. But from a diet perspective you can tell he’s kept up with the habit for a few years.
