Thunderstorms? I've lived in LA for 15 years and heard 2 total thunders in that time, and one of those times turned out to be a space shuttle reentering the atmosphere instead.

But then it would cost $5.3 billion (or whatever) and the cost to run A/C in a stadium is like $15k/day. It's not like they would just throw in a free A/C because they spent so much freakin' money building the thing.

It's like when people bitch about a rear camera being standard on a $20k Toyota, but not on a $60k BMW.... if it was an option on the Toyota, it would be $19,800 without a camera... and if it was standard on the BMW, it would be $60,200.

And guess what... if they spent millions on A/C, people would bitch about wasting money on A/C that's only used once in 2 years.

Typically when it's hot on the coast it's due to Santa Ana conditions. Meaning the hot air is blowing in from the Deserts traveling over the mountains, compressing and getting hotter as it blows down and out to sea.

Not going to get a cooling effect in that stadium when the wind is blowing out to sea.

Much of the Miami stadium has shade for the fans, but I don't think Tampa does.

And conditions on/near the coast can really be effected by what type, if any, ocean breeze they get.

As the article on SoFi talks about.

I've lived in LA 22 years. We've had thunder at least once the maybe 4 out of the last 5 years. But yeah maybe 2 times I can think of before that.

Supposedly a storm is coming this Saturday, which never happens this time of year.

Exactly. High temp in Inglewood, the location of the stadium, is 91 degrees tomorrow. Lots of early season football games are played in 90+ degree weather.

Example of folks that have no clue what they are talking about regarding the climate of Southern California. Inglewood is a few miles from the coast, temperatures are moderated by this big body of water called the Pacific Ocean.

Yeah, a few miles up the 405 in the Valley it's going to be 20 degrees hotter, but SOCAL in general has many micro-climates.

I was shocked to hear that AC is not common in many places in California. San Luis Obispo area I know for sure many homes do not have AC built in because it is not necessary most times.

Google says the average high temperature in Inglewood, CA for the months of July and August is 75 and 76 degrees.

RickObie 09-08-2022 09:06 AM

I moved out to North County San Diego 35+ years ago from Kansas City and just about every place I've lived doesn't have AC. The first 25 years never had a day that I wish I had it, but the last 10+ we are starting to get hotter and more humid days. I bought a portable AC for sleeping..95+% of the time don't need one though...

RickObie 09-08-2022 09:08 AM

Also - went to Sofi a few times...open sides on stadium...no need for AC - it would be like running it at your house and opening all of the windows...

Good for Sac but the rest of the SF Bay Area hasn't been so lucky. Now they are closing schools between 11 and 1:00 to "lessen the load on the system."

The vitriol towards California is a little surprising

I can concede that, as California is the most populous state, it likely contains the highest number of a-holes. However, Texas - as the second most populous state - is surely giving Cali a run for its money.

I'm sure both states have some very fine people.
