*****OFFICIAL 2022 Border War Hoops and HATE Thread

Alright y’all! We got a game this Saturday. The reigning National Champion Jayhawks are as self-righteous as ever and coming to Columbia, where the Tigers look like they could have their best coached team since the Obama administration. Self is still figuring out his rotations (to a painful degree), and in Columbia anything can happen.

This thread can also be used to talk football and how this rivalry is oh so dead, which is why a bowl game that is not happening has arguments spilling over into Mizzou threads, KU threads, college football threads, and twitter and facebook wars all over my feed.

Join me and let’s all talk about how this game doesn’t matter anymore and all angrily ask why I’m missing asterisks in the thread title.

Missouri can claim some SEC wins to feel better about their incoming humiliation.

JohnnyHammersticks 12-07-2022 06:24 PM

Not taking a picture of myself taking a whiz on Allen Fieldhouse may end up going down as my life's biggest regret.

Was driving from Denver to CoMo for the holidays one year and decided to take a detour off I-70 through Lawrence. Parked by Allen Fieldhouse fully intending on taking a picture of myself peeing on it and sending it to a good buddy of mine from Chicago who was a KU grad.

I was into photography at the time and had a good camera and tripod in my car, plus the students were gone for the holidays and campus was a ghost town. Even if a campus cop would've caught me, jail would've only been one overnight max and the fine would've been less than a grand probably. I would've had that photograph for a lifetime. But I chickened out like a pussy and it gnaws on my soul to this day.

I wish we could but these guys say no.

Pepe Silvia 12-07-2022 06:27 PM

Allen Fieldhouse smells really good inside, it’s an old basketball smell. The outside looks like Freddy Kruegers Boiler Room though.

It remains to be seen if they show up.

HonestChieffan 12-07-2022 07:29 PM

Mizzou needs to have a rationalization event where they admit they really are not a sports school

KCUnited 12-07-2022 07:32 PM

I see KU is handling UMKC's light work after last years beatdown of Missouri

comochiefsfan 12-07-2022 07:39 PM

College basketball is a completely irrelevant sport, but I suppose it would be fun if we somehow get the win.

I used to at least understand when Missouri fans would say this while making decent bowl games every year... oh yeah, we suck at basketball, but we don't care, we have football!

Except you don't even have that now outside of Alex Smith morale victory "we played Georgia close for a little while!" bullshit and avoiding Kansas in bowl games.

So, as a fan, what's the point of saying one is relevant and one isn't? You're so concerned about the financials of the school you cheer for and TV contracts, that it must be brought up in a thread about a single basketball game?

Hm. Almost seems like something the fan of a bad basketball program who had to watch his "rival" win the nat'l championship would say.

If College Basketball meant anything at all than kU would be in the B1G and not in a mid major conference.

Before long kU will be as irrelevant as the dying sport they care so much about.

Weird how they play CBB in football stadiums during the Final Four, given how so few people care aobut it.

Mizzou is diving in swimming pools of cash, Scrooge McDuck style, courtesy of the SEC.

Meanwhile, kU is scrounging together every penny they can find to make the first upgrades to their high school football stadium since the Eisenhower administration.

It's adorable but a little too late.

Thank God our administration had the foresight to at least make us a respectable program in football so we could stay in a power conference. Probably saved our university.

I would hate to be a fan of a school that will be stuck in the mid majors forever because they prioritized a dying niche sport like college basketball.

Sad.

This is a nice fantasy for Missouri fans, I guess, but I was asking about things rooted in reality.

Kansas just won a National Championship in the sport you don't care about, but also just had its best football season in a over a decade.

Missouri is barely treading water in football and has been far worse off in the past decade than they were before leaving the Big 12 and might as well be a mid-major in basketball.

FFS, the school is what, like 12 years into the SEC and you could have been placed in the same bowl as lowly dying Kansas this season.... and you're trying to tell us how it's all sunshine and roses?

Who are you trying to convince, exactly? LMAO

And you didn't answer the timeline question... when should I expect Kansas sports to die and Missouri to do something with all that money you'll never see but is somehow really important to you?

Check-in in another decade and a half, maybe?

Send Pepe over to Tigerboard in 2040 to see how it's going?

The reason CBB isn't a bigger player in realignment isn't because of the popularity or the total amount of revenue. Its how it's divided up. The NCAA hoards cash from the Tournament. Hell it funds almost their entire operation. In the CFF structure, the schools get the lions share of the money from the bowls and playoff.

Bearcat 12-07-2022 10:46 PM

Maybe we should start a "College Sports Financials HATE Thread" for the Mizzou folks?

It's clearly not a sports school any longer, unless you consider cheering for Alabama a sport.

After they begged for a game for a decade, they really couldn't.

That said, at this point, I'm glad we are playing again. I'm also glad that Mizzou doesn't look like a bunch of bunglers any longer. As much as I enjoy flinging crap at them for the failures, it is more fun when KU/MU is competitive basketball.

Hoping for a good game.

The year is 2040. The Chiefs have won multiple Super Bowls. Pepe can now post on Tigerboard, which still uses that awful format. Surprisingly, the Cowboys and Giants rule the NFL, having won the past 6 Super Bowls. Their division also owns the largest share of TV contracts and prime time games.

The San Diego Chargers are making an announcement.

Charger County,
This year marks our 80th year in existence and what better time to tell you we are moving to the NFC East! After decades of trying and failing to win championships and compete in the AFC, we have been accepted into the most prestigious of divisions for reasons.

No longer will you have to worry about wins and losses, as we will ride the coat tails of success of this great division, be guarantee several prime time games per season, and most importantly the Chargers family (not you, silly) will be richer than ever.

Leave behind rooting against Hall of Famer Patrick Mahomes II and worrying about spending the next 20 years watching the Chargers lose to Patrick Mahomes III in that dying division. They will have problems after the Chargers leave. Sure, they may win more championships and have more glory on the field, but they won't have the Chargers' popularity by association.

Leave behind rooting for the Chargers all together, really, as your loyalty now lies with the Cowboys and Giants. They win, and we all win. Your jersey may say "Chargers" and the record may say 3-14, but you can rest easy knowing you're now part of America's Team.

Playing football is an irrelevant niche sport. Making vast sums of money is the only sport that matters now.

Welcome to the NFC East, the P1 of the NFL!

Except you missed the part where the Chiefs in that scenario no longer have the resources to continue to attract recruits and win championships. The Chiefs get left behind in a mediocre league as the AFC pillages the CFL in a desperate attempt to fill the void left by the leaving franchises.

Unfortunately our beloved Chiefs would be doomed to never see success again. While the Chargers and other franchises in that league leave the stragglers far behind.

It's amazing how much "relevance" is completely subjective.

So, what's the latest in resource acquisition and management? What has Mizzou resource fans excited? What's worth bragging about?

Any new weight rooms?

Upgraded patches of grass for watching events at the stadium?

Any backup Georgia players considering a transfer after being impressed by Missouri's ability to play them closely for a couple quarters?

New wrestling mats and wrestling accessories?

Pretty sure they've generated loads of apathy through the move to the SEC.

It all went towards poop swastika removal

DrunkBassGuitar 12-08-2022 11:27 AM

I'm sure if Mizzou had appeared in a final four game the cope wouldn't be "no one cares about a billion dollar sport anyway"

That was 100% not a foul. I remember in real time I thought it may have been but look how he goes straight up to swat it. Great block in a great moment. Looks like he's in the Phillipines now...lets start a go fund me to get him over to the game.

Whether anyone believes it or not, it's a hilarious card to play and works every time. ROFL

I don't even dislike Missouri. Especially after all this time in separate leagues.

But their fans sure hate KU.

Completed our state of the art football facility in the south endzone of Faurot a couple years ago.

About halfway through our brand new 100 yard indoor practice facility as we speak.

Is kU still bragging about their recliners in the endzone?

We're pretty focused on a team that doesnt completely suck, actually.

Nice resource wins!

It's the 2nd time you've mentioned Kansas resources though. Just like when Missouri was a sports school, seems like you take more enjoyment from Kansas resourcing failures than you do Missouri resource successes.

If Kansas has a major resource win, I assume we'll hear miracle funds!

Best22 12-08-2022 12:24 PM

A 10-0 start would be nice

Not important. As a fan, the money the conference gives out when the other teams do well is all that is important.
