Mike McDaniels job in jeopardy?

This is pretty interesting but dumb considering McDaniels hasn’t had Tua for a large part of the season.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/BreakingNews?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#BreakingNews</a> per <a href="https://twitter.com/ArmandoSalguero?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@ArmandoSalguero</a> of <a href="https://twitter.com/Outkick?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@Outkick</a> - Mike McDaniel, Chris Grier, and Josh Boyers jobs are at risk if the Miami Dolphins lose against the Jets and miss the Playoffs next Sunday 👀 <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/FinsUp?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#FinsUp</a> <a href="https://t.co/MiOT1bHHmm">pic.twitter.com/MiOT1bHHmm</a></p>&mdash; Fins Talk Sports Network (@FinsTalkNetwork) <a href="https://twitter.com/FinsTalkNetwork/status/1610639503059820544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 4, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Seems a bit suspect until…

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The Miami Dolphins’ ping pong table has been removed from the heart of the team’s locker room ahead of Week 18 finale vs. the Jets with a playoff spot potentially on the line.</p>&mdash; David Furones (@DavidFurones_) <a href="https://twitter.com/DavidFurones_/status/1610688785942986752?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 4, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

BossChief 01-04-2023 05:53 PM

I mean…when you give up that much for Tyreek and Chubb and don’t make the playoffs, the seat is going to get very warm.

comochiefsfan 01-04-2023 06:06 PM

You don't do this unless you have a specific guy you want and are either extremely confident the deal will get done or you already have done it behind the scenes.

Payton is my guess.

comochiefsfan 01-04-2023 06:07 PM

Also the media is going to have a field day with this since the Dolphins would be firing another black coach under questionable circumstances.

Won't be the least bit shocked if they end up with a Brady/Payton combo. If they do fire McDaniel, you know that's what they're going to try to do... again.

I assume it’s related to getting Tom Brady. Is Tom willing to play for Sean Payton? I know he forced the Bucs to fire Arians. Wonder if Miami would hire Leftwich as part of the deal in getting Brady.

I think McDaniels is about a net 0. He came up with some good concepts to get Hill and Waddle singled up and he did basic shit like NOT shit all over his QB, but man he pulled some intergallactially stupid shit in some big games.

Destroying Tua because you don’t recognize concussion symptoms multiple times could also be feeding into this. Also the Dolphins haven’t been relevant since Marino so canning a first year HC makes sense.

McDaniels record has been pretty good when Tua was healthy. I actually think he did a damn good job making an Tua look average. The problem is Tua is never healthy, which is where most of their losses have happened.

The front office on the other hand, should probably go.

With the emphasis the NFL has put on concussions over the past few years, that’s something you can’t afford in to get wrong even once, much less twice in the same season.

I don't mean to be morbid here but isn't keeping Tua around a huge liability how many more concusions until dudes a vegetable? He's had atleast 3 concussions that we know about and hasn't demonstrated he knows how to protect himself. Seems like a potential HUGE PR nightmare and the veteran QB market on paper appears to be decent. There's your off ramp.

I think we can all say with certainty that Andy wouldn't have finished 8-9.

This is one of those situations where you see what you want to see:

Best offense in the league for part of the year. Lots of new looks produce for half a season. Soft Schedule. Best receiving corps in the league will beat bad teams.

Tua looked really good in several games. Any college starter can look good throwing to Hill and Waddle. He also threw a bunch of balls to the other guys that they inexplicably didn't catch. Until they started to.

Injuries are flukey These injuries look like a ****ing trend.

Tua sucked ass when the wheels started to come off That's the concussions talking. If he's healthy he ****ing rocks.

Look at the neat shit they did on offense Look at the moronic shit they did to choke away games.

They're so close They're a flash in the pan.

If it's me, the Fins lined up and took their shot. On paper Tua has room to develop, but there is little probability that he'll ever be in a better position to succeed and they're probably going to miss the playoffs in a year there is a real chance that a sub .500 team will be in.

I still think McDaniels is a net 0.

Especially when a team in their division had a dude essentially die on the field that had to be resuscitated. It would be tough for me to tie onto a risk like that in light of Monday Night's fiasco.

Excellent point. Flores' roster was far better than ****lehead Pioli's final roster, so there is a real argument that it is better.

McDaniel never really talked about being bi-racial all that much until the offseason. That was pushed by the NFL after Flores was fired and the heat the league was receiving in the offseason.

ChiefsFanatic 01-05-2023 01:19 AM

Could this be posturing in the Flores lawsuit?

If they cluelessly fire their white head coach, they can point to how they didn't fire Flores because of anything other than incompetence.

Seems like a fun coach to play and root for when things are going well but as soon as they aren’t it will implode quickly.

He’s a press conference coach.

Red Dawg 01-05-2023 07:09 AM

McDaniels has no control over his players at all. He doesn't have a backbone like he should with authority. He has the Cali be who are attitude all the time and that won't work. Only now do they stop players from playing ping pong at the stadium? That says it all with the losing streak they have been on. He sits back and allows Hill to slam our organization and QB and says nothing.

Don't give me the Tua excuse. Dallas won with a backup and so have other teams with better coaches. SF has a 7th rounder playing QB and winning. They gave him everything he wanted and used draft picks to do it for Hill and that RB. Miss the playoffs and he should be fired.
