Mahomes injury isn't as serious as same one suffered in 2019
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Chiefs?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Chiefs</a> coach Andy Reid told reporters that QB Patrick Mahomes "worked hard on the treatment and is doing OK." Asked about his status, Reid says he's "gonna play" and that this isn't as serious as the one Mahomes suffered in 2019.</p>— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1617588801962147840?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 23, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

And Mahomes went scorched Earth on the Fade the next week.
Huge update. |
Dude is freaking unreal.
|
What injury is he referring to in 2019?
|
Better than bad does not equal good.
But... hey. |

You’re thinking of the dislocated kneecap. Andy is referring to when he got his ankle rolled up on against Jacksonville in week 1. |

WOW. Really? He played super well that year, managing that injury. Talking about dodging a bullet. |

Ok ok ok I remember. The only injury I could remember was when he ****ed up his kneecap. I couldn't remember when that happened for sure.

This is about the best update we could’ve conceivably gotten, although you’ve gotta discount it on some level.
|
Mahomes will be fine. I guarantee they will give him a toradol shot and he won’t feel a ****ing thing

Wonder if this being his right ankle will make a difference?
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Correct, that was Patrick Mahomes' left ankle. <a href="https://t.co/TqysqZdHcQ">https://t.co/TqysqZdHcQ</a></p>— Nate Taylor (@ByNateTaylor) <a href="https://twitter.com/ByNateTaylor/status/1617592746734399489?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 23, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

I’d say it’s better than the alternative where Reid acknowledges that there’s been some swelling over the past day or so and they’re playing it day-by-day. |

Right ankle is a little bit different than left ankle but still pretty good news.

One more thing, Mahomes playing within the pocket might be a blessing. He has shown that he can be deadly when throwing from within the pocket.
|
Quote:
They will have to find the best tape job for him. Tight enough to prevent as much separation of the tibia and fibula when planting that foot while also enough flexion to allow him to run. Very manageable injury for a QB that is not a run first QB. All about pain management and pain tolerance. If he played any other position it would be doubtful he would be playing. |

I would say to shoot him up with horse cocaine but I have a sneaking suspicion his body is already producing it naturally.

Taking anti-inflammatories work well but they are hell with your stomach. They will probably have him popping those all week while they ice and treat it.

Please let him rip the Bengals apart Sunday! Great news thanks for sharing.

While this is all fine and good, this is the other ankle. You would rather it be the other one but we can likely surmise this is definitely not a grade 3 and probably not a grade 2 high ankle sprain.
Mahomes is so tough. |
I'm of the belief (I'm going to be killed for this) that we need to come out with a running game plan.
I think we can run the ball down their throats, and we need to to kill their pass rush. |
Quote:
I did find it concerning that he was struggling to put velocity on the ball Saturday. If that’s still a major issue in the next game, it puts him and the team in a tough spot. You cannot expect to beat a great team like Cincy if your QB is lobbing weak high school throws around the field. Begging for trouble there. |

Later in the game if needed then switch to what everyone expects KC to be. Rocky vs Apollo II |
I do love the talking heads like Sharpe who want to talk about how tough the ankle sprains they suffered were and how they know how hard it will be to play.
Like you don’t think medical research has advanced at all in how to treat these things since you played in the 90s? |

"The Kansas City Chiefs came out of Sunday night’s game against the Indianapolis Colts with not only their first loss of the season but also with a number of injuries to key players, most notably quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who said he “reaggravated” an ankle injury in the first half and then saw it further injured in the second half when offensive lineman Andrew Wylie stepped on it." Edit https://arrowheadaddict.com/2019/10/...le-colts-loss/ "When backed up against his own end zone in the second half of the team’s most recent loss to the Indianapolis Colts, left tackle Cam Erving was backed into Mahomes and stepped on his foot, re-injuring the ankle that had already been so tender. Suddenly Mahomes was seen limping toward the sidelines, worse than ever before." |

I had a high ankle sprain once from tripping over my erect penis. Thankfully I was able to continue posting on www.chiefsplanet.com 6 hours later.
|
this was trending towards "not severe" the whole time
no boot postgame woke up with his ankle feeling much better today andy says it's less severe than a mild sprain from week one against JAX NEXT UP: A MOTHER****ING FP |
WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!

They're good everywhere. The Chiefs have a cheat code to all of this, though, and that's Mahomes if he's healthy. But the Bengals shut that down by confusing him in coverage. They also shut him down by having Hendrickson take Orlando Brown to school. Mahomes is going to solve the scheme, because he's brilliant. If Orlando Brown can keep Hendrickson off Mahomes, then Mahomes at even 80% is enough to win this game. I just... have my concerns that OBJ is up for that challenge. |

The Bengals were 29th in the league in sacks this year.
|
Quote:
1. The Bengals will likely not send a single blitz in the second half. If I watched the last three games I don't think they blitzed Mahomes once in the second half. So McKinnon is more helpful leaking out. 2. The Chiefs never, ever help OBJ. |
Quote:
I ask myself, am I cool with Hubbard/Hendrickson against Wylie/Brown. The Chiefs should help Wylie. They should. But they don't always do that when they should (see: Super Bowl LV). But they won't help Brown. |
Quote:

Bengals blitzed Josh alot yesterday and Reid is expecting the same because of Mahomes injury.

Mahomes has elite checkdowns in McKinnon/Kelce/JuJu. He can read everything, see everything, and even if he's hobbled, he's smarter than everyone on the field. He can't escape pressure as well right now. So, drop everyone, give Hendrickson/Hubbard time to beat the tackles and go get him. Mahomes likely can't beat you with his legs this week. |
