Some guy on Twitter: Chiefs have 8th ranked CB unit

Not that any of us give a shit was this dude has to say, but it's the slow season.

8th seems pretty good to me, especially given our recent youth movement. Given the limited resources we've invested into the position, I'm not sure I'd trade places with any other team in the league.

I'm certain that we're first. Some guy on Twitter is wrong. Wrong!

Sassy Squatch 05-15-2023 01:17 PM

It seems like a really solid list for the most part but the Chargers are a bit high, especially since he seems to list J.C. Jackson as the best of the bunch. He got benched for poor performance BEFORE the season ending patella injury.

AdolfOliverBush 05-15-2023 01:19 PM

As if Jalen Ramsey is good enough to cause a team to go from 1 to 32, or from 32 to 1.

GloucesterChief 05-15-2023 01:20 PM

Seems like this guy is just going off name recognition.

Pitt Gorilla 05-15-2023 01:21 PM

Man, the Eagles are deep, even at CB.

Except for the fact that just about NONE of the Chiefs' CBs have name recognition.

Megatron96 05-15-2023 01:21 PM

Some outlet had the Chiefs defense ranked 15th overall a couple months ago. Not bad considering how many rookies/new players were on the squad, and the fact that we ended up starting a 4th and a 7th rounder for half the season due to McDuffie's injury in Week 1.

RaidersOftheCellar 05-15-2023 01:23 PM

Seems like KC should be above the Chargers.

The corpse of JC Jackson must be pretty good.

Megatron96 05-15-2023 01:32 PM

Interesting that both BAL and SF are ranked 24th and 25th, considering how highly they were regarded last season by most talking heads.

Wilson8 05-15-2023 01:35 PM

I think the Jets are probably dumping Bryce Hall. He played 5 games last year.

For the Chiefs at CB these 4 -
38 L'Jarius Sneed CB
21 Trent McDuffie CB
35 Jaylen Watson CB
2 Joshua Williams CB

Followed by one of the these on 53-man and maybe 2 on Practice Squad.

30 Dicaprio Bootle CB
12 Kahlef Hailassie CB
-- Lamar Jackson CB
-- Ekow Boye-Doe CB
31 Nic Jones CB
14 Reese Taylor CB

Having good PS CBs further strengthens the Chiefs CB group.

teedubya 05-15-2023 01:41 PM

**** this some guy on Twitter.

Wisconsin_Chief 05-15-2023 01:48 PM

Considering the combined salary of our top 4 guys is probably like $6-7 million or so, I'd say 8th is pretty damn impressive. It's astonishing they can get this kind of performance out of a premium position group for less than half of what some teams pay their #1 corner.

Brant Vilch all day.

$8,847,594 - Chiefs have the 3rd lowest cap for CBs

Rams are the lowest at $7,640,984

Highest -

You guessed it - Miami Dolphins $46,931,830

That's not what's happening here, though.

I'd imagine he felt like the Rams with Ramsey were probably somewhere between 15-ish range and the Dolphins without Ramsey were somewhere in the 15-ish range as well. If that's the case then I can see Ramsey tilting the scales and sending the the Dolphins to 1 and Rams to 32.

Even without knowing where he had either team ranked prior to the Ramsey trade, I won't disagree with the Rams being at 32 and the Dolphins being at 1.

ThaVirus 05-15-2023 02:16 PM

The Rams are looking at a big oof there. I don't follow college ball but I don't know any of their CBs.

Their whole defense is basically going to be Aaron Donald and a bunch of scrubs. I wonder if Donald's heart is even in it anymore..

The Dolphins have a salary cap, don't they?

The Chargers ranking was the one I had the biggest issue with.

JC Jackson has been a bad signing thus far and Michael Davis' play has been declining.

Pitt Gorilla 05-15-2023 02:22 PM

I don't think I'd swap groups with anyone above us on the list, although Philly might be close. That's pretty amazing.

Wilson8 05-15-2023 02:23 PM

Side Note - Chiefs lead the NFL in QB spending at $42,475,881.

Eagles are spending $27,081,385 at CB for 2023

I know. Their top 2 are expensive, which is why I still prefer ours. Their depth is as solid as ours, most likely.

I agree, but we have people like Mike Florio that want to make a big stink about how the Chiefs have to do something about Mahomes contract.

dlphg9 05-15-2023 02:34 PM

Ramsey may be the most overrated player in the entire NFL. It's honestly ridiculous.

A bargain for multiple Super Bowl victories.

It would actually be really interesting for someone to come up with composite scores for each team’s position groups then also have a separate score for the investment in each.

Compiling the two scores together would tell you who was the most efficient in their spending. Lots of subjectivity in that thought.

You’d have to factor in resources spent to acquire the player too. Draft picks vs FA signings vs trades, etc.

Eagles in top 10 least expensive for both OFF and DEF.

Chiefs top 5 most expensive on OFF...top 10 least expensive on DEF.

Interesting stuff.

Still couldn’t beat KC when it counted. Even without a #1 WR.

And this.

The list isn't truly awful, but it does lean too hard into 'hey, I know that guy'. Jackson was hot spiced ass last year for LAC and Ward really struggled a lot for Cleveland. I don't know how you can say either of those teams should be ahead of KC.

But I mean, 6th or 8th ain't really that big a deal either way. It's within the margin of error. I wouldn't have Miami 1 either, but I'd have them in the top 5. So whatev.

ShortRoundChief 05-16-2023 02:59 AM

I hope our shiny superbowl rings blind them when we flip them off.

I’m confused, Florio says we don’t pay QBs??
