Anyone own a Can Am spyder?
Thinking about buying one but wanted to know how they ride.
|
|
My SIL had one, but I never rode it. What are those things costing these days?
|
Why would anyone ever admit to owning one

They look fun to me. I want one. |
Had a guy go on a motorcycle trip with us that had one. He was an older guy; wasn't experienced on a bike so he thought that would be a reasonable compromise. He had a good time on the trip but it's not like you can lean one over or anything to negotiate a tight turn. You just have to slow it down and work your way through it.
Honestly, to my eyes, it was pretty much the worst of all worlds, but I could see a little appeal to them I guess. For my money, I'd just find myself a used Plymouth Prowler or something. |
My dad has one. He loves his. Its perfect for him to go cruise around and see things. Good toy for a retired guy in his 70s.

They’re all right and I get why people ride them.
But when I sold my bike, I was done. Hurts sometimes, but that’s the way it is. sec |

I think they are a better platform trike then two wheels in the rear. |
Quote:
Putting two wheels in the front reduces that risk several times over. Also just don't have to worry about the thing laying over or having to keep it balanced while you're sitting at a light or whatever. |

They look fun. I like 2 wheels but my wife won't ride on two wheels. The only way she will get on one is, if I get a can am or trike. |
Just get a Harley with a sidecar. Unhook when she doesn't want to go. Once she eats a bug or two you be going alone anyway.

How many cars do you see with windows rolled down? I could count on one hand the cars I see on a perfect 68 sunny day low humidity in one week. Its to noisy can't hear radio or phone. Old beaters with no air is when you see a widow down.

I would like to ride one of these as well.
You see them in Europe especially in the Tour De France front vehicle and chase vehicles. https://ridermagazine.com/wp-content...adon-Rturn.jpg |

They outfit those with a lot of creature comforts like heated seats, grips etc. What did yours come with? |

Drove one and was unimpressed. Kind of like driving a car without windows.
Grab a real bike dude. |

I've been tri-curious myself at times. I've done two 4000+ mile trips on my motorcycle, and while there is nothing like that experience, there were times where I wish I didn't have to balance the whole time. Getting stuck in traffic in Yellowstone park comes to mind, as does trying to park on steep graded hills.
I almost laid my bike over on Needles highway because I was on a hairpin turn and some jackhole decided to stop and look at something mid-turn. The pavement was banked in a way that I couldn't drop my left foot down far enough to touch anything before the bike would have tumbled over. Luckily I was able to go past him just far enough on the right shoulder to regain balance and get my other foot down. They also look much more comfortable than my Multistrada, and I ain't gettin' any younger. |

Why? Why bother? Everyone knows that when you buy a Jeep you're gonna have to put some new wheels and tires on it. Maybe lift it a bit, maybe not, but they look like hell in their 'base' dress so why even sell them like that? Same thing with Pegs. Pegs suuuuuuuuck. Y'all are really gonna make me spend another $400 for floorboards and go through the headache of installing them? Man, just charge me $350 more for the thing new with foorboards instead of the stupid pegs. Sure, if it's a crotch rocket, put the pegs on it. But who the hell rides a bagger or dresser or anything along those lines with pegs? Y'all really think I'm gonna put a knee down on one of these things? |
I literally just saw one pull into my community yesterday while out on my morning walk. This one was an ugly battleship grey.
I think the blue or black ones look the best. |

I’m sure you’ll pull some tolerable VFW bar skank ass with it, OP.

Not a spyder, but got passed on the highway by one of those things yesterday. Sounded like a crotch rocket flying by. Looked it up and its got a 1400cc Kawasaki engine in it, so that explains it. |

Do you still need a motorcycle license for these. |
I've seen one tooling around Liberty deep brown almost a burgundy red but deep dark. Its a really sharp looking rig. I see the black and silver ones all the time but they dont stand out like that on in Liberty Mo.
Have fun with it! You should get that drone out and track your ride with it and post here? |

I like the look of their riker. If it had a more powerful engine.
|
I hadn't see a Can-Am Spider in like 3-4 years and somehow since this thread was started, I've seen 2 in the last 5 days. WTF?

Brought it home and my father loved it, going this Tuesday so he can buy one.
|
My father bought one last night, I had to drive it home the 100 miles as he as well has never ridden one.
So we both now have a can am spyder. It will be fun riding together this summer. Esp with us living so close to Asheville NC, some great back roads to ride on. |
