Kadarius Toney Has Bad Start to Training Camp

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...ce-knee-injury

Training camp for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney got off to an ominous start Sunday when he left the field prior to the start of the first practice because of a knee injury.

Coach Andy Reid after practice said Toney injured the knee while returning a punt before some of his teammates had even arrived on the field. Reid described the injury as a "tweak,'' normally his term for a minor ailment.

But Toney left the practice field, something usually reserved for more serious injuries, and the Chiefs continued without him.

We all like Toney, but he's played less than half the possible games in his NFL career and our WR corp looks thin even with him.

FloridaMan88 07-23-2023 09:53 PM

Adam Teicher’s training camp is off to a bad start.

Gary Cooper 07-23-2023 10:01 PM

Big surprise. Still can't believe they're expecting him to be a top receiver. We don't have witch doctors last I heard.

It's not going to get any better. Guy's been mailing it in for years.

He’s made of glass and paper

Redbled 07-23-2023 11:32 PM

Not sure why he’s returning punts. Should be like Hill and do that sparingly. Save it for the postseason. He jukes so awkwardly I think he’s getting hurt every time.

MMXcalibur 07-23-2023 11:34 PM

This is exactly why I never bought into the idea of him being our WR1.

Stewie 07-23-2023 11:37 PM

I've said it before but he needs to train with Bobby Stroupe. He's all about preventing injuries. If he's good enough for Patrick...

Titty Meat 07-24-2023 12:19 AM

As long as he's playing in the super bowl next February IDGAF

So as long as he's on the inactive list around week 14, he should be in good shape to heal in time to play one more game.

;)

BWillie 07-24-2023 01:49 AM

Honestly the dude shouldn't be returning punts if hes this injury prone

But he is ripped and has a lot of tattoos so everything is going to be alright. He will be fine.

Skyy Moore is going to be the stud anyway IMO.

Yeah, if they plan on having him be WR1 this shit needs to stop. He's an injury waiting to happen, especially on punt returns.

Toub can piss and moan all he wants, get him off special teams. Put Richie James or Watson back there.

This. He shouldn't be doing anything besides playing WR, and he shouldn't leave his home without being covered in several inches of bubble wrap.

BigRedChief 07-24-2023 08:20 AM

Just get those legs 100% ready for the playoffs. We be good.

Yep. There is a place for him, but its not #1

Dunerdr 07-24-2023 08:35 AM

Ah yes another thread to over react in.

oldman 07-24-2023 08:52 AM

It's the 1st day of camp. Let's not write the season off just yet. Should he be returning punts? Maybe sometimes, he did a good job in the SB on one.

Kiimo 07-24-2023 08:56 AM

You're right.

He's allowed to return punts in the Super Bowl. Not practice. I'm glad we came to an understanding on that where everyone wins.

I think Richie James will largely take over that responsibility. He's pretty decent at it.

Coogs 07-24-2023 09:47 AM

He did have a day like Moore did against the Colts last year. James's day happened against the Seahawks.

LMAO Why am I not surprised it happened during a punt return. Just, ****ing WHY???

It was a fun dream while it lasted. Dude can't run w/o getting hurt.

We aint talkin' about getting hit. He can't RUN.

He's an interesting option that doesn't work too badly for the chiefs. They are good enough to use him sparingly in the regular season then heavy up on him later in the year. Relying on him as WR1 is probably a mistake because I just don't see him being able to take on the regular snap count. If he gets used as more of a weapon vs an every down WR Id more than happily use a roster spot on a guy who saves you a few bucks on the luxury of having a dynamic playmaker in your backpocket

The dude makes cuts like he thinks he's gumby.

Kiimo 07-24-2023 11:01 AM

Will he help the Chiefs? Absolutely.

Should we talk about him in terms of a #1 WR? Not a chance.

And that's fine. The future is Rice / Skyy and everyone else can fill in the gaps.

FloridaMan88 07-24-2023 11:04 AM

Have to think that Andy Reid/Veach were realistically assuming that Toney would likely only be available for 50% of the Chiefs games this season given his injury history, when they were planning the WR group for this season.
