Killers of the Flower Moon

It doesn't look good at all. But it is Scorcese and Deniro. I'm seeing a showing in an hour. Anyone like this? It seems it's about how whites are bad and Indians were peaceful doves. But my mother in law must be entertained. I'm going in boys, wish me luck.

KCUnited 10-20-2023 06:49 PM

Wasn’t my proudest fap

Buehler445 10-20-2023 07:15 PM

Read the book.

Those poor natives were horrifically abused - and then murdered.

I'm reading the Count of Monte Cristo. Is that really what this all about, the poor innocent natives? F me.

EPodolak 10-20-2023 07:29 PM

I have an interest in seeing it. It was filmed in small towns I used to live near and I'm usually down for Scorcese. Plan on going next weekend.

No. It's about murders.

ChiefsCountry 10-20-2023 07:46 PM

The Osage sold their land in Missouri and they bought their land in Oklahoma. So technically they aren't on a reservation. Then that land in Oklahoma they bought turned out to be one of the richest oil finds.

Buehler445 10-20-2023 07:50 PM

Just get the book. It's a 9 hour listen on audible or a really easy read.

I don't stan for a ton of books, but this one everyone should read.

I don't know how the movie can do it justice, but the story needs to be heard.

Vladimir_Kyrilytch 10-20-2023 07:55 PM

I read Faulkner, Buehler. I'm trying to entertain here. The movie started already and I'm in the beer line. LOL

Vladimir_Kyrilytch 10-20-2023 09:07 PM

It's a good movie actually. Very intense. Martin Scorcese still has some chops. Needs an intermission tho

Yep. Book is fantastic. Looking forward to seeing the film.

Why Not? 10-20-2023 10:48 PM

I thought it was okay. Seemed to try to walk the line between quirky/witty and serious and kinda half assed both. Leo and DeNiro were great, because how could they not be, but I didn’t love it. My wife did, however. Also, drink lots of coffee or do lots of meth prior because when you include previews, it’s pushing 4 hours.

Hammock Parties 10-20-2023 11:09 PM

3 hrs of woke bullshit huh?

Vladimir_Kyrilytch 10-20-2023 11:35 PM

It wasn't too woke. I kept waiting for Leonardo DiCaprio to do something big and he never did. But it was good. Far better than the Marvels will be that's for damn sure

That criticism loses value when you apply the same terms to purple hair last jedi girl power BS and Martin ****in' Scorsese making a film about verifiable American history.

It's a fair concern. I thought it was gonna just be about how evil white men took over Indian land until strong powerful Indian women beat them up in fights and such, thereby avenging their people. That's not on hammock; that's on modern Hollywood. The syringe that stabs the woke into ya.

It wasn't like that though. I thought the main Indian actress was hot to be honest. Might have a touch of that red fever after this absolute marathon of a film. 3 hours 40 minutes!

Bullshit

seclark 10-21-2023 11:20 AM

I also read the book, and am looking forward to seeing it with the wife tomorrow.
The end of the book, where it details the author going back to visit the family and town was very interesting.

Holy **** this movie was great. Horrible story and not a great ending from a reality standpoint but the story in the movie was well written and acted.

staylor26 10-21-2023 06:57 PM

9.5/10

Of course Scorsese, Leo, and De Niro made a classic.

Exactly.

There's nothing woke about this movie.

Side note: Ironcially, Clay loves "purple hair last jedi girl power BS"

seclark 10-21-2023 07:25 PM

Just got back from seeing it. Thought it was great. Went along pretty closely with the book.
I’d have liked to seen more from the FBI agent and his/their investigation, but I realize time was a factor.
Will watch again when it streams.

Clay is talking about loving Sabine in Ahsoka. He hates the Last Jedi chick.

If I’m following the dork science.

I’ll have to see the movie. I’m skeptical because the audio book is 9 hours and there really isn’t a lot to cut IMO. I’m also a ****ing rube. So there’s that.

God. You are just the worst.

Otter 10-22-2023 12:24 PM

Many Native American Indians were very difficult to deal with due to conflicts between cultures of European settlers as well as being raiders and thieves. I'm by no means saying there weren't downright atrocities committed (by both sides) but it's not quiet as simple as pure evil vs pure angelic.

There was plenty of blood being shed between rival tribes and Mexicans long before the colonialists from Europe arrived.

WhawhaWhat 10-22-2023 12:34 PM

How does that relate to this movie?

Easy 6 10-22-2023 12:53 PM

No, 3 hours and 20 mins (not including previews and post credits).

I've never understood this. How's it any different than binge watching a few episodes of a TV show in a row?

In all honesty the story, while true, just isn't interesting enough to me to sit in one spot for that long... I'm sorry those natives were murdered back then, but it just isn't a fascinating story IMO

I'd much rather Martin got the band back together for one last gangster movie, but I'm glad you enjoyed the show

A master at the medium could make any story compelling. I'd watch a couple arguing about where to go to dinner if Tarantino directed it, ya know?

Also, consider the bang for the buck. You get 3.5 hours of epic filmmaking, acting, and storytelling for the same price as a generic 90 minute Marvel movie written by committee and AI.

You gotta see it. I saw it.

My complaint is there is no intermission. 4 hours is longer than I can hold my pee, especially when I'm drinking beer from the snack bar the whole time.

I can pause a TV show or take a 5 minute break between episodes when I need to go to the bathroom grab a snack etc. Having to sit on one place for 3.5 hours or feel like you're going to miss part of the movie isn't ideal.

I understand if the only issue is watching it at the theatre. Some people just don't want to watch a 3 hour movie period, but they'll binge watch a show.

Yeah I agree I don't get that. If I was worried about overall run time on something I'm watching at home I'd just stop halfway through & watch the 2nd half later like it's a sequel. However a movie makes it's money off box office so when a movie is so long I only want to watch it at home, I would say that's a problem for the studio.

My wife went & saw it this weekend, she was super pumped about it (coincidentally she was in Pawhuska when they were filming, just happened to have a trip planned to go to the Pioneer Woman Lodge) She said it was good, but complained about the length & said they easily could have effectively told the story & cut a ton of time off. I was actually interested in seeing it, but after hearing her review I'm waiting til I can watch it at home.

We really enjoyed it. I don't think I looked at my watch until about 3:15 in, I felt overall the pacing was fine. Disagree you could cut substantial time and still have a cohesive story.

The audiobook was 9 ****ing hours and I don't know what you'd cut.

How do you get this audiobook? Don't you usually have to have an expensive monthly subscription for such things? I'd consider getting it if it was just like a flat 20 bucks, but a VK isn't looking to add another subscription service ya know Buehler? Ain't nobody got time for that.

Get the Libby app for your phone. Place a library hold. Pick up when ready or download to kindle.

Free. Great.
