If Murphy is going to bring something back that was popular in the 80s, he should start with his stand-up career. This looks horrible.

Beverly Hills Cop was never great art.

It was funny, lighthearted action schlock.

This is going to be like when they made the A-Team movie.

The original wasn't a Rembrandt, so painting it again won't be a challenge.

They'll probably elevate what was originally there.

Eddie Murphy hasn't been funny in years. He quit doing raunchy stuff and proceeded to start trying to be wholesome... He sucks at that.

His standup stuff was great, but Raw, while still funny, was a definite step down from Delirious. The main reason was by the time of Raw, he was a massively successful and wealthy superstar, and as such had lost touch with the reality of everyday life for those of us who aren't massively successful and wealthy superstars. When his content shifted from funny stories about everyday life to the problems of the super rich, it became far less relatable, interesting and funny. We can relate to stories about family members doing stupid shit at family functions. We really can't relate to Eddie feeling that he needs to marry some "African bush bitch" and keep her hidden away from greedy American women so she won't be talked into taking half his shit, when the remaining half of his shit is far more than most of us will accumulate in a lifetime. Was it still funny? Sure. I WANT HALF, EDDIE! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY, EDDIE! LMAO But what comes after that? Bitching about waiting too long to board a private jet? Tipping the help too much? The valet forgot to pack his socks? Hiding from the little people pestering him for autographs? I think it was probably smart on his part to stop doing standup, and I've seen an interview he gave where he basically acknowledges this.

As for Beverly Hills Cop IV, all I can say is that there was a Beverly Hills Cop III that was absolutely ghastly. I remember turning it off after about 20 minutes.

Welp - i WAS excited for coming 2 america 2 as well..........and we all know how that played out......

That said - Raw was hilarious Frazod.

This one honestly might be make or break for Eddie, he hasn't had a genuine hit since the early 90s... its been one stinker after another

If the fan reviews are even decent I'll be interested, he's perfect for that character and I'd love nothing more than to see him kill it again and get some of that old magic back... looove seeing they've brought back Judge Reinhold and that other dude from the originals

He plays well off those guys, a nostalgia boost never hurts

Sure it was. I saw it in the theater when it first came out. I have it on DVD as well, and I likely also had it on VHS before that. So I've paid to see it three times.

But Eddie was much different in Raw. The wide eyed, I'm just happy to be here kid was gone. Even though he concealed it with humor, he was jaded and pissed. Somebody definitely did a number on him. The content had a nasty edge to it, and eventually it started to grate a bit. I think he sensed it, too, since at the end he did try to lighten things up with rehash of his drunk dad bit. Overall, though, that show could just have easily been called Women Are Gold Digging ****s. I was in the dying stages of a crumbling marriage to an unfaithful wife back in '87, so I was definitely sympathetic to the rantings of a guy who was down on romance and women in general. But even at the time I remember thinking it was a bit much.

This could be ok but it will probably suck badly if I am just guessing.

Coming 2 America, Dumb and Dumber To.. not a great track record for comedies with sequels coming out 20+ years later.

Bigger issue is that Murphy hasn’t made a good movie since the year 2000.

staylor26 12-21-2023 07:09 PM

Named my son Axel, so everybody always tells me "like Axl Rose?" and I'm all "well I just like the name, but when I hear Axel, I think of Axel Foley."

Stryker 12-21-2023 07:21 PM

So looking forward to this!
