Any of you guys visiting Orlando?

Ran into a lot of Chiefs fans between Disney World and Universal, and this car is parked at our hotel.

Arrowhead South’s 3rd largest chapter in the USA is at Orlando. They get 150-200 Chief fans there on game days.

Yeah but that car has Kansas plates. Not as likely to be an Orlando-ian

Everyone at CP is independently wealthy and wouldn’t be caught dead in a Kia. :)

Not really sure how I'd fit this massive dong into a Kia, TBH.

After a week at the parks, I don’t think I can even afford a Kia!

All the tough Buffalo snowbirds seem to have flown south for the winter. Saw more Bills gear than any other team. Miami was a close second.

Going in April to Disney World. I’ll be repping the Kingdom for sure.

Weather has been really nice the last few days, like 65-72 and sunny.

Perfect for the parks.

Yes, I’m here as well. Last day today. Agree on tons of Chiefs and especially Bills fans. They have all been giving me looks when they see my KC hat.

I haven't been there since the last weekend of bootcamp, nearly 40 years ago (back then the Navy had a recruit training center in Orlando). The previous weekend we went to Sea World.

The main thing I remember was that they were both much better than being in bootcamp.

Everyone locally are complaining about the parks prices. They have went up and Disney keeps raising the prices because the parks are still filling up to the point of capacity.

What is with boomers constantly shifting conversations to either a negative or themselves?

Jesus. ‘How bout that beautiful weather!?’ ‘Yeah, but it’s expensive here. Plus this social club that I organize has lots of members here.’

****ing weirdos.

There was this scene in House that made me realize how often some people do this (and one friend in particular who's really bad at it), and have since caught myself doing it and thinking... wtf is that my first thought, to argue that point...

The closest I've found is called oppositional conversation style. In your example, there's a chance that if you said "man, it's expensive to live here" the response would be "can't be this weather though!"

Of course, that doesn't help explain why BRC insists on making everything about himself or my habit of derailing threads for psychological tidbits.

Not true. It’s been pretty well publicized that Disney World especially has had decreased attendance. If you don’t believe me listen to Iger himself from just a few weeks ago.

“The decrease in operating income at our domestic parks and experiences reflected lower results at our domestic parks and resorts, largely offset by higher results at Disney Cruise Line.

At our domestic parks and resorts, lower results in the current quarter compared to the prior- year quarter were due to:

A decrease at Walt Disney World Resort reflecting a modest decrease in revenues and higher costs. These impacts were due to:
Lower volumes due to decreases in attendance and occupied room nights.”

99.9% of the time I-4 is a ghost town and there’s no traffic. It’s the other 0.1% that makes it a bitch. My math may be off just a little bit.

I was in Tampa for a bit last year and every single time I'd have Google maps up, I-4 between the two cities had long stretches of red... I'd check up on it sometimes to see if I could make it to Orlando on a Friday (and other times) and it always looked like a parking lot heading into Orlando.

It was also snowbird season and given the traffic coming into Florida on NYE/NYD and then headed out at the end of March, I wouldn't be all that surprised if there are actually that many people down there temporarily over the winter to cause traffic issues.

Hell, even going down to Marcos Island one weekend, it was damn near bumper to bumper the entire way from/to St Pete... it was nuts.

BWillie 02-25-2024 01:39 PM

I'm going to Jacksonville for 11 days in the middle of March. I guess I should say Florida. I'm going to drive to Daytona, Orlando, Tampa and back for some of the trip. Definitely be telling all the Jags, Fins and Buc fans about our Dynasty.

I mean, yes and no right? When they talk about decreased attendance, that’s mostly relative to 2022 which was a banner year as people came out of their COVID shells. 2023 saw them come back to earth though that was mostly the summer months as the fall months were booming.

I think most people realize I4 sucks balls and find other routes.

Only consistent traffic I’m aware of is downtown during rush hours and where the 429 meets around Disney/Champion’s Gate.

The Iron Chief 02-25-2024 04:05 PM

I'm from upstate NY hours south of Buffalo ..thank god and 2 hours North of NYC.
My mother has a place in Tampa that my wife and I visited last week.

We flew in and out of Orlando both Early A.M.

The I-4 wasn't too bad going East but when your heading West on it from Tampa..Holy Sh1T.
Your basically just lifting your foot off the break for 90 minutes or more no matter the time unless its 1-5 A.M.
Yes I need to finally make a serious plan around that.

I didn't post to say that but more to the fact that I was in Orlando Airport yesterday and met more than a few Chiefs fans at 5 A.M.

We laughed about how you can sense an eye roll or two from random people.
Or people want to ask if your a bandwagoner and that you have to prove in someway that your not.
One guy I spoke too we were discussing that and who would've ever dreamed one day as Chiefs fans this would be the case.
Both of us had been Chief fans for 40 yrs.
Marty ball to Grbac starting in the playoff game over Gannon and so many other facts.
And so many playoff one and outs.

But here we are now.
Fielding questions or comments like
How long have you really been a Chiefs fan..
My most used reply now is I waited 40 yrs for this Run and I'm not apologizing for it.

At any rate it was nice to meet other Chief fans from around the country in the Orlando Airport.

Sorry that got a little long winded

One of the greatest golf courses I played is north of the I-4 halfway between Orlando and Tampa.

If you're a golfer, you will be very happy you played here.

I played the Panther Lake course. Just gorgeous and spread out where you do not see the golfers in front or behind you.

I get around pretty good, although sometimes it requires using one of the toll rods to get anywhere. I’m not on the west side so I don’t have to deal with all the Disney/Universal traffic.

Hah, I actually wouldn’t agree with the guy who said I4 is a ghost town. It’s the only major highway (unless you count shit like 50, which I don’t) in Orlando that isn’t a toll road so a lot of people will choose it over 408 or the 429 if they can just because it’s cheaper.

But consistent traffic jams, like stop and go type stuff? Only times I see that in the Orlando area outside of accidents are right around downtown and Disney. It definitely gets pretty thick around Kirkman, Sand Lake, Millennia, etc. because there’s a lot going on but not consistently stop and go in my experience.

Im a little confused because if you’re heading West on I4, you’re going to Tampa. Are you saying that the traffic was worse when you were heading from Orlando to Tampa or it was worse when you were heading from Tampa to Orlando?

Ah, lucky you.

I actually used to live right off of Conroy like a quarter mile from where it intersects with I4. That was back in my younger years. I ****ing loved it then. Tons of traffic but everything seemed so accessible.

I’m off East Colonial near downtown and I don’t have to deal with commuter traffic much. I went over to I-Drive on Friday when I went out for my birthday, and I forgot how nuts it is over there to drive, park, etc.

Mostly no. 2022 was still only 80% of pre covid levels. You can say it’s their choice to have the park reservation system and say they controlled traffic (no one knows by how much if at all) but fact is that banner year was 80% of pre covid levels and 2023 was worse than that year. So it’s been about three years now and they still can’t hit pre covid levels. A lot of reasons for that, mostly their own doings in my opinion.

They basically got rid of the park reservation system this year - I think you still have to “reserve” entrance to one park but can immediately hop to any of the others with no limits. As for the ride reservations, it sucks but I wouldn’t have dealt with those lines. Make a couple reservations in the morning and show up to the park in early afternoon, and you still ride as many rides as anybody waiting in lines. Definitely paying a premium but nowhere near as bad as Universal’s $250/person express passes.

When I lived in Orlando I played Orange County many times. Such a great course. However, for reference, it’s no where near Tampa. It’s literally in Winter Garden, behind Walt Disney World, in Orlando. Just didn’t want anyone to skip it thinking they had to drive halfway to Tampa to get there.

I Drive was always prettt hectic but that area right off of Sand Lake is insane now ever since they added the Orlando Eye. All of the little shops and restaurants in that area have increased traffic like crazy.

It’s all good, I was just curious.

And yeah, personally I really only ever make the trip back home typically later in the day after a beach day or concert or whatever so I am able to avoid that return traffic, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t notice some crazy stop and go traffic on the other side of the highway when I’m heading out to Tampa at times.

I don’t even know what the issue is, either. I always assume accident but maybe there’s an important exit or on ramp that slows things up.

Winter Garden is another place that’s changed like crazy in the last 15-20 years.

Google says the population was 25,000 back when I moved there in 2005. Now it’s about 46,000. Nearly doubled the population in just under 20 years.

Dude, it’s just grown so much. We lived in Clermont until we moved back to KC, and we went to Winter Garden all the time. Love the downtown and farmer’s market scene. If we were to ever move back, it would definitely be Winter Garden.

We moved back to KC in March of 2020. The pandemic just sucked the life out of the place and we had a great job opportunities hit at the same time here in KC. So now we live and work downtown.

I will say, we love Orlando, and all things being equal, we’d live out the rest of our days there in a heartbeat.
