Peter King is retiring

Football Morning in America is up! And this one’s about the luckiest man on Earth. He clarifies in the article that he's not 100% disappearing, but he's no longer going to be working full time at least. Pretty crazy that he's been able to do this for like 40 years. |
Survived the collapse of print media. Thats pretty amazing in of itself.
|
His health seems to have been an obstacle for him these past few years. Hope he enjoys retirement! I enjoyed his interviews over the years.
|
I hear him on Carrington on 610. King is always coughing. Hope to hear from him periodically.
|
I am just reading through his final column now… it’s a big loss.
|
I think he is great. Got so many contacts and stories and can show up anywhere and offer thoughtful takes.
Glad he is only semi retired and will still make occasional appearances. |

Damn, that’s really sad to hear. The big P is nothing to casually dismiss. Get better King!!
|
Somewhere Florio is spinning this into that's what he meant when he kept saying Reid might retire.
|
Finally. zzzzz
|
I'm going to take heat for this, and that's fine. I found his writing over the last several years to be a tired schtick, and he overly relied on kitchy colloquialisms that were often annoying. I thought about starting a drinking game where I had to take a drink every time he wrote the word 'weird', but then I realized I'd be dead. Simply because someone's around for a long time doesn't make them a good writer (e.g. Rick Reilly- who also sucks). Sorry-not-sorry but 'Coffee nerdness', 'beer nerdness', 'Ten Things I Think I Think' and his dumb haikus will not be missed any more than Zippy the Pinhead comics.
Adios, annoying sports writer. |
I really don't know what to make of Peter King.
I don't dislike him, just always seems to bland in his reporting. I do think he is highly accurate when he sticks his neck out when he sources a breaking or rumored story. Definite legend in the field. |
One of the best, even if I didn’t agree with all of his takes.
|
Good. Now he can work at home depot as a paint mixer.
|
I thought the dude had hung them up years ago...
|
Fewer people read columns than listen to the radio

Thought this was about Peter North at first

Always enjoyed reading his articles. Was a staple at Sports Illustrated forever.
Enjoy your retirement ! |

That said, thanks for all the hard work and your love of the NFL to the Peter King! |
He's a great writer, and I've enjoyed his conversations with Carrington Harrison on 610. Guy has been some places and seen some stuff. Props for his longevity and the quality of his penmanship.
|
Great reporter who will be missed. His post Super Bowl interviews were great.
|
Surprised he kept doing it full time this long. Haven't read his column regularly for several years but he did good stuff.
I was surprised when he left his MMQB stuff w/ SI. Looks pretty prescient now, guess he saw the writing on the wall. |
I don’t hate the guy. He’s done some good work and some shoddy work. Probably more good than bad. Definitely had some good insight over the years.
TOTAL blindspot for Franchise Killer Pioli though. |

It seems like I enjoyed his stuff back when I was subscribing to Sports Illustrated.
But |
I always liked him. He and posnaski were great.
|
Well Bye
this is the guy that would pick against us, then want an exclusive interview with andy to yuk it up about "You called it corndog yukyukyuk" or he would suck pat off in some intimate interview then pick the 49ers good bye take florios fake ass with you |

Andy: Again, Peter, those were two different plays. |
I've cursed a lot of his columns over the years, a lot of blah blah blah, then maybe a decent nugget, then more non sequiturs. The fact that he's been able to keep it up for 40 years is pretty amazing. I agree with him on this point, professional football is fun to watch, it's a game that rewards creativity, risk taking and really hard work. Dude definitely gets it. Congratulations to him.

I remember for a while he was on this kick of who would win on a neutral field…like WICHITA! That was weird.
I emailed him one time. It was after Aaron Hernandez died. Because he died while his appeal was pending, the conviction was vacated. He bitched about it so I wrote to him to say that was part of our system’s premise that you’re innocent until proven guilty. His conviction wasn’t final when he died so that presumption applied. Told him this had been the rule in Anglo-American law for literally centuries. His response? ‘That’s a stupid law and should be changed.” Sorry you don’t like how an ancient law is applied just because you disagree with its application in one instance. Quit your damn moralizing. |
