Sure why not...adios Bell.

KurtCobain 03-12-2024 10:52 AM

OMG I JUST CANT RIGHT NOW IT BEGINS TODAY BOYS

In58men 03-12-2024 10:52 AM

He’s trash tbh

Hammock Parties 03-12-2024 10:53 AM

what a trash ass signing LMAO

DaFace 03-12-2024 10:54 AM

"To the ship" rings a little hollow when we basically own the shipping company at this point, but this definitely feels like a "to the ship" signing.

Be nice. Let's just say that he's a guy - JAG

RealSNR 03-12-2024 10:55 AM

I'd honestly rather have Blake Bell or Jody Fortson in a wheelchair than this guy

The Franchise 03-12-2024 10:56 AM

Meh.

TLO 03-12-2024 10:56 AM

I'm outraged by this

TLO 03-12-2024 10:57 AM

Fortsen is in a wheelchair and Bell is useless.

We just purchased the Bengals' offensive playbook.

Skyy God 03-12-2024 11:00 AM

Eh, tires being kicked.

ChiTown 03-12-2024 11:00 AM

If he takes the spot of a shitty Blake Bell, I'm good with that. He's going to be behind Kelce and Gray (and maybe Fortson), so WGAF?

Hammock Parties 03-12-2024 11:01 AM

runs 4.6, could be nice

Iconic 03-12-2024 11:02 AM

damn i remember i wanted this guy so badly in 2019.

great pickup and solid depth. he hasnt really had much of a career but if he can kick start it anywhere it will be in kc.

Okay he’s literally the second best TE in the NFL now that he’s on the KC Chuefs

DJ's left nut 03-12-2024 11:05 AM

Can't figure out why he sucks - figured he'd be a viable pass-catching TE.

But he definitely sucks.

Hope that came at/near free. Because I really don't know what he brings to the party.

Maybe his family owns a potato chip company. I always enjoy a bag of chips at a party.

OnTheWarpath15 03-12-2024 11:09 AM

Nice young and cheap depth signing. Can run - never felt like Minnesota tried to use him right.

Bengals is where TE's go to die, so not gonna freak out over last year.

Guessing this is nothing more than a "camp body" flier-type deal.

booger 03-12-2024 11:09 AM

6’2 short arms like Gray. More like a FB. Hopefully he won’t cost much to cut

Pitt Gorilla 03-12-2024 11:10 AM

I loved him out of college. Not sure what happened.

RunKC 03-12-2024 11:10 AM

Blake Bell was useless every time he was on the field. And Kelce missing time last year exposed that.

At least Irv Smith is young and has athleticism to actually be useful

Be interesting to see the terms. Gray is in the last year of his deal.

WhawhaWhat 03-12-2024 11:11 AM

If they were trying to decrease the dropped passes this season, then they are moving in the wrong direction.

In58men 03-12-2024 11:12 AM

I feel like this is the only player we get. They’ll work something out with Sneed and wait for the draft. Very underwhelming FA.

TribalElder 03-12-2024 11:16 AM

Camp Fodder

still want to see us pull Sinnott from K-State in teh draft

Mecca 03-12-2024 11:17 AM

They're literally telling Jody Fortson bye is all this is.

I'd almost bet that this dude doesn't make it out of camp.

Yep. TEs are a bitch to find these days. The pigeon dude from Illinois looks like an old fashioned Y on the line TE. 6-5 270 34-35” arms for the nice catch radius. That would be a nice mid round add to take Bells spot. Problem is there’s not a group of 3-5 guys like that in these drafts.

Best I can say is that I'm not convinced he's that much worse than Fant and somehow Fant got paid real money.

I suspect Irv will get some deal in the $2-3 million range tops (and with nominal guarantees). So 80% as much player for about 33% as much money? Eh - whatever.

Yeah, it's not like we were going to be able to sign Jones and make an additional serious splash beyond that. We secured the services of the best DT in the League. I'm good with that. Now we need to go fill some holes via the Draft, and I have NO doubt that we will.

Fant being 6-4 250 with the 33 1/2” arms automatically gives him a chance to compete on the line at the Y. He can get off the line and he has the ability to be a competitive blocker where as Jr and Gray are at a disadvantage in who they’re being asked to block and you have to put them on the move to get the best out of them. I don’t like having two short arm types on the 53. If so they better keep 4.

But that’s just the reality of what’s available. It’s like a short armed DE like Danna. Loop and stunt him and he’ll be more productive

Plus Reid knows what he’s doing and won’t expect him to do what he’s physically not capable of. They even had orson Charles for a year and had him practice with the RBs as a FB. If he earns a spot they will scheme him properly. But I think he’s definitely that F TE/hback etc. If anyone can coach him up it’s this staff

UChieffyBugger 03-12-2024 11:38 AM

LOL THE SAME MOANING ASS IDIOTS WERE CRYING ABOUT THE CHEAP SIGNINGS WE MADE LAST YEAR TOO ONLY TO LOOK STUPID ONCE AGAIN ROFL

Here's something the bed wetters can chew on.

365 yards and 5 touchdowns

Those are stats Smith had in one 13 game season which is better yards and td totals than ANY TIGHTEND we've had bar Kelce since Mahomes became a starter. Oh, and HE'S ALSO the fastest backup TE we've had too.

The kid is 25 years old and was forced to play with an injured Burrow and Jack Browning last year. So folks need to grow up and give the guy a fecking chance smh.

He was set to be an RFA I don’t know if they tendered him but Gaithings the PS kid they signed to a futures deal. Very very similar ht weight and arm length to Fortson. In that WR/TE hybrid mold. I’d probably bring Fortson to camp for the minimum with no bonus. Even if just for one of the veteran spots on the taxi squad. But staying healthy is a must and he has had terrible luck there

Not every acquisition is amazing. Richie James wasn't all world. He'll be useful here, he's just not going to make a monumental difference and everyone is most focused on the real issues at WR and LT.

You are correct, he was looking good.

I can guarantee you this is one of those "Veach Specials" where he's had his eye on this dude since he came out of college. This isn't just a fly by night signing. They targeted him for a reason.
