What tabs do you usually have open at work?

Just a random question.

Every morning, when I get to work, I open Outlook, our accounting/matter manager software and the internet. Google is my home page. I always have Casenet, MO Secretary of State, personal email, Facebook and Chiefsplanet open.

Is Chiefsplanet on your list of "must have open" tabs?

I have ChiefsPlanet up in the background (usually don't get to check, but I'll check intermittently just to see what shenanigans are afoot).

I also have my fantasy league up. It's year-round and plenty of good chat and shit-talking.

Other than that, all my work stuff.

chiefsplanet and my company's internal landing page is about it

mikeyis4dcats. 04-04-2024 08:01 AM

30 to 40 usually. About 80% work related.

DaFace 04-04-2024 08:05 AM

ChatGPT, YouTube Music, and a bunch of work-specific apps (Google Drive, Asana, Okta, another instance of ChatGPT...).

KurtCobain 04-04-2024 08:08 AM

I have 6 work specific tabs open right now, chatGPT, obviously the planet at the moment but not always, and spotify premium.

scho63 04-04-2024 08:30 AM

I usually have 17-25 tabs, Chrome Extensions and apps open across 3 screens.

I could never work again with just a single screen.

Pablo 04-04-2024 08:33 AM

I don’t have CP open on my work computer ever. Usually just work stuff and browse on my phone not connected to company wifi

dmahurin 04-04-2024 08:36 AM

Email on one monitor, teams on another and the email one gets updated with whatever I'm actively doing.

The Franchise 04-04-2024 08:40 AM

Depends on which computer. I have a personal one and a separate work one.

So because some clown wants to crash Pocahontas in a plane we're all on a watch list?

LoneWolf 04-04-2024 08:42 AM

SAP, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Tableau, Wall Street Journal, CP, and about 5-10 spreadsheets that all have scripts running from other programs and autoupdating. I have 3 30" monitors on my desk and a 65" TV on one wall that I have whatever news channel I decide to run that day on it.

On Work computer (Workday, Service Now, JIRA, default search is Bing for SQL, SSIS, XML/XSLT searches)

Non Work computer, chiefsplanet, Twitter, facebook, Youtube, bank, google sheets, credit Karma, Amazon, rumble, Ace of Spades HQ... (one or more of the above open at any one time, not all open all the time)

DaFace 04-04-2024 08:43 AM

I suppose I also have a plethora of things open that I've installed as "apps" - they're just not technically tabs in Chrome - Gmail, GCal, Slack...

Used to be that way. I finally swapped to a single 43" monitor and just started using the snap-in feature and will never go back to multiple external monitors.

Docking stations can **** right the **** off.

Most of my work is done in Word or Adobe. I typically open the file from the file location, though, so I don't have them open unless I'm actively working on a document. My boss opens Word, and then opens the file through the software. Nothing wrong with that, but it drives me batty at times when he asks me why he can't find something. He opens Word for everything, but not everything he looks for is a Word document. If he would just go to the file location on the server first, everything is listed.

I did that for Planner and with a couple of SharePoint speadsheets... IIRC, it didn't work in Chrome, but it's the one way I use Edge. It's far easier with cloud things these days.

I have ThinkPad docking station (and 4 monitors) and it surprisingly works really well.

The 2 main secret service agencies are MI6 for international security threats and MI5 is more for domestic threats (both are mostly concerned with cyber security and terrorism). The National Crime Agency (NCA) are the ones who deal with the most serious criminal enterprises and the plod are the plod. Any noncey stuff would fall under the NCA if you're part of some kind of nonce network or the plod if you're just a solitary nonce.

If I worked at a proper desk rather than my small 2 person dining room table, I would likely do that as well. My setup is a ****ing wire fest like a giant band of snakes. (2) Dell used monitors I paid $30 a piece for, a new Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7620, a Dell Thunderbolt docking station I got for $60. I have the two monitors raised to the highest level with 2 cigar boxes under each to keep the screens about my laptop.

Looks like a real shit show! ROFL

Im also interested in this. It’s good for drafting emails and such, but I know there has to be a ton of other practical use cases I’m overlooking.

I use it quite a lot with my workflow to be honest. Note organization, documentation, brainstorming, writing reports, etc.

mr. tegu 04-04-2024 10:36 AM

I don’t really work at a computer, so none.

The irony is that you could use chatgpt to suggest ways you could use chatgpt for work. :)

Tons of use cases. I'd suggest digging and watching a few YouTube videos. Here's one. Here's another. Here's an article.

I do a lot of qualitative research in my job, and I'd say the biggest time saver for me is summarizing large volumes of text (e.g., transcripts or survey responses). I also use it to help me brainstorm when I'm trying to think through good questions to ask. Tons of possibilities, though.

I legit gave up trying to make space on my desk for work stuff. I bought a party fold up table years ago and have used it since. Hell, the sticker for that table is my mouse pad.

It's roomy, didn't kill my back when I moved my office twice and I really don't give a shit what it looks like. Gets the job done.
