Jaylen Waddle gets paid

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...475m-extension

Quote:

MIAMI -- The Dolphins agreed to a contract extension Thursday with Jaylen Waddle that makes him one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.

The three-year, $84.75 million extension includes $76 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The $28.25 million average annual value of the extension is the fourth highest in the NFL among wide receivers, while the guaranteed money is the third behind A.J. Brown ($84 million) and Amon-Ra St. Brown ($77 million).

Despite playing alongside Tyreek Hill for the past two seasons, Waddle's 3,385 receiving yards rank 13th in the NFL since 2021, and he has recorded the 16th-most receiving yards of any player in their first three seasons.

Keep. Drafting. Wide. Receivers.

FloridaMan88 05-30-2024 11:23 AM

Great WR’s, non-clutch QB… only gets you so far.

Buehler445 05-30-2024 11:25 AM

That’s a lot of guaranteed for an undersized dude that’s hurt a lot.

ThaVirus 05-30-2024 11:28 AM

Incredible time to be a WR in the NFL.

I suppose he’s good but I forget this dude exists sometimes. Like, I’m not sure he’d make my top 15 and he just cashed out.

Mecca 05-30-2024 11:29 AM

We're in an era where a high end 2/low end 1 makes 28 million a year.

tredadda 05-30-2024 11:32 AM

This is a move a team makes when one of two things is true:

1. They have a QB on a rookie contract
2. They have an average QB they are stuck with and need to surround him with as many weapons to offset that as possible.

RunKC 05-30-2024 11:33 AM

Tyreek is probably playing his last year in Miami. They’re $11 million in the red in 2025 and there’s no way they’ll pay $34 million to Tyreek when they just paid Waddle and are about to pay Tua.

Megatron96 05-30-2024 11:39 AM

Feels like they’re overpaying by a lot. And they still need to pay Tua, who has already rejected their first offer and appears to need over $50 million/yr.

Kiimo 05-30-2024 11:41 AM

Hill has claimed he'll retire soon.

I mean he's also said he's going into porn.

Summary: Hill says a lot of shit

If Tua wants 50 mil, I tell him to go find some other sucker to pay him that. McDaniels is a Shanny disciple you can get pretty much any QB to look good in that system just don't expect them to put the game on their back to go and win it.

ChiTown 05-30-2024 11:43 AM

That's a lot of money tied up in 2 WR's(Ty & JW) - $54MM in 2025, and Tua is a UFA in '25 as well. If they decided to cut bait with Ty in '25, they'll have $22MM in Dead Cap. Good luck to them...

Porn is not going to pay the bills for all of his child support.

Not a fan of McDaniels but that’s irrelevant to this conversation.

Personally, I wouldn’t pay Tua more than $35 million/yr; what with his poor injury history and inconsistent performances when Tyreek was hurt, I don’t see how he merits anything more.

I mean, is Tua really that much better than Trevor Lawrence? Who doesn’t have any injury concerns, has a much better arm, more mobility?

Rain Man 05-30-2024 11:54 AM

2nd best WR on his team.

ThrobProng 05-30-2024 11:56 AM

LOL @ teams thinking they can load up at WR and dethrone the Chiefs.

Kiimo 05-30-2024 11:59 AM

Looking at the history of super bowls and trying to figure out if any team in the matchup paid huge money for a WR2 and I'm not seeing it.

O.city 05-30-2024 12:09 PM

Makes sense when you realize there are only about 4/5 teams that can actually win a Sb in the NFL

Pitt Gorilla 05-30-2024 12:12 PM

Did he play in our playoff game? I'm not trying to be snarky, I literally don't remember.

FYP

Kiimo 05-30-2024 12:12 PM

I think they are paying him like a WR1 now because when Hill leaves and he IS the WR1 there he'll be a bargain

RealSNR 05-30-2024 12:16 PM

You didn’t lose in the playoffs because of your WRs, Dolphins.

Idiots.

Yes - but he wasn't much of a factor (2 Rec for 31 yards, 5 targets)

Megatron96 05-30-2024 12:18 PM

Basically he’s getting paid like he’s Mike Evans. Don’t know how anyone else feels, but I don’t think he’s worth ME $$$. Never.

Yep.

ThyKingdomCome15 05-30-2024 12:30 PM

Hill makes 25 and Waddle makes 21. That's nearly top 5 QB money for two WR's and the QB is fairly mid.

Ouch.

Megatron96 05-30-2024 12:39 PM

I don’t think TL is worth $50 million/yr either. That was my point.

Balto 05-30-2024 12:45 PM

Hill has $31.3M hit this year, $34.2M next year and a huge $56.3M in 2026! Ouch

Kiimo 05-30-2024 12:47 PM

And he wants a raise

And the QB will be making $50M per year pretty soon as well.

He's either getting a new deal or being released, there's no way they pay those cap hits.

Oh, my mistake, that's who I thought you were asking about.

loochy 05-30-2024 02:13 PM

That's a lot of cap tied up in wide receivers

After seeing us win the super bowl last year, I'm not sure that's the smartest of ideas...

Pasta Little Brioni 05-30-2024 04:57 PM

Lulz

jjchieffan 05-30-2024 09:27 PM

Maybe they're thinking that they can replicate the Raiders back when they had 2 hall of fame wide receivers that made people think that a mediocre quarterback was an MVP and made it to the Superbowl.

They’ll get exactly what they deserve if they pay him that.
