Yeah, I was amazed that one woman was both his wife and his dog.

He never killed a dog.

RIP. He retired from acted a long time ago. But he was one of the greats. So many great roles in 70s, 80s and 90s films.

I checked his IMDB, Welcome to Mooseport was his last movie, that was 20 years ago.

Yea. I figured it had been at least 20.

So many great roles. The French Connection, Hoosiers, Mississippi Burning, Unforgiven, Crimson Tide. Just to name a few……

Hackman should get more consideration in that "Greatest American Actor" conversation than he does.

He was a genuine force. And for a guy who was...uh...unconventionally handsome - that's pretty remarkable.

That guy didn't have leading man looks by any means, he was just that damn good.

I always thought it was a damn travesty that the last line on his CV is "Welcome to Mooseport..."

I always hoped he'd make one last movie just to go out on a higher note but he made it clear for decades that he was just done. Really hard to believe that it's been 20 years since his last movie.

I knew he was in his mid-90s.

I had no idea that the years had done that sort of number on him, though. He's completely unrecognizeable in photos you can find over the last couple of years.

Really exceptional in so many things - one of my favorites was "Enemy of the State" A great role.

You would have gotten huge bonus points if you had said it would be an accidental death unrelated to his health.

I just keep thinking of that scene from Coming to America. Damn shame what they did to that dog.

sounds like gene died of natural causes and the wife was so distraught she killed herself with pills and the dog accidentally ingested what was scattered around
