Seeing as Bearcat banned me from the KU basketball thread for daring to use statistics to dispel the constant trashing of the team’s best player this year by far, I’ll need somewhere to put my thoughts for this year’s tournament.

In sum, the committee screwed KU again. Their resume (and wins) should have had them at at least a 6 seed and maybe even a 5. Arkansas is also the toughest matchup they could have had among possible opponents and KU matches up horribly against them (stay tuned as to why).

As far as the rest of the tournament goes, I’m picking Houston to win it all and Kentucky (fraud) to lose in the first or second round.

Kansas shouldn't have even made the tournament.

How many teams in the country do you think have wins over both a 1 and 2 seed in the tournament? St. John’s shouldn’t be happy with this.

Honely, KU should be awarded the #1 overall seed for all they've done for college basketball and for the covid year

Our net rating is better than at least 8 teams in front of us and sometimes by a significant margin (Memphis for just one example).

No - they’re punishing Kansas for being mediocre in conference play.

Memphis barely beat Wichita State and Tulane over the weekend, lost to that same garbage Wichita team during the season (as well as even more garbage Temple) and got rewarded with a 5 seed. Is that being mediocre in conference play?

This was bullshit too. Neither had the resume to get in, especially UNC. Those games will draw big numbers now for the NCAA, though, which WVU would not have.

The SEC got 14 teams in? Texas went 6-12 in conference and looks like they had about the shittiest non-conference schedule a team could create.

Texas is in the play-in game because they’re gonna draw a shit ton of eyeballs for NCAA/CBS/Turner and not much more.

Because it certainly wasn’t the basketball in their case.

I knew UNC would get in no matter what.

I don't think I've ever seen an at large team with twice as many conferences losses as wins make it into the tournament. There are plenty of examples of teams being maybe a game or two under .500 in conference with a decent non-con and some great wins getting in... but, that's not Texas. They've lost to two of the worst 3 teams in the SEC in just the past couple weeks.

UNC getting in is ****ing crazy.

The selection committee being chaired by their AD makes it less crazy.

As a Des Moines resident and a fair weather Missouri fan, not happy about this first round matchup. Would have liked to see both of them get to the second weekend. Drake can absolutely beat Mizzou.

Due to wins over Duke and MSU months ago as well as a 55 point blowout win over UCF in January. They are far closer in true talent level than their KP ratings indicate and the matchup is horrendous.

You’ll get your full preview later this week but this was not the team we wanted to see here of all possible options.

It looked like a hostage video yesterday when the Sun Belt commissioner was sitting next to the UNC AD, trying to justify UNC’s inclusion in the tournament.

Also trying to pretend that the UNC AD had no influence on the decision.

What an embarrassment, to have such a conflict of interest... everyone has their biases and what not, no matter how much they say it's all about the resume and data, but yeah $100k will do it. :facepalm:

I would put you in the tourney as a 1 man team for $100,000. As a 5 seed so they can't claim bias though.

I watched a Locked on KU video and based on predictive metrics, tyoe of coach, certain stat criteria of who has made Final Fours in the past it was narrowed down to only KU, MU or St Johns coming out of that region. Took some mental gymnastics though.

I always pick the Ivy League champion to win a game. Seems to work out often enough. I've never heard of High Point but I always seem to fade Purdue in the tournament.

I know the history shouldn't always mean much when picking these games, but I feel a certain way about teams that always seem to screw my bracket up. Arizona I'm looking at you!

The team that everyone says doesnt't deserve a spot always wins a couple games or more. UNC didn't deserve to get in, but now that they're in I wouldn't be shocked if they won a couple.
