Mock (8/22)

Assumptions:

1. The Chiefs finish 5-11 and end up picking #7. Andy Reid, John Dorsey, Pederson and Sutton are all retained.

2. The Chiefs fail to extend Alex Smith, after extensive talks. Smith hits the front market, and the Houston Texans outbid everyone to bring him on board. They also fail to extend OLB Justin Houston and franchise tag him. They do, however, extend S Eric Berry at some point over the next 12 months for about $8m a year.

3. The Chiefs re-sign DE Allen Bailey to a 3-year, $13m ($3m guaranteed) deal.

4. The Chiefs cut WR Donnie Avery, TE Anthony Fasano and CB Sean Smith.

5. The Chiefs tender OLB Josh Martin.

6. The Chiefs let walk QB Alex Smith, WR Kyle Williams, WR Junior Hemingway, OT Ryan Harris and C Rodney Hudson.

7. The Chiefs re-sign FB Anthony Sherman, CB Chris Owens, LS Thomas Gafford to minimal deals.

8. The Chiefs sign WR Nate Washington (Titans) to a 3 year, $14m deal, WR Jerrel Jernigan (Giants) to a 2 year, $6m deal, and CB/S Devin McCourty (Patriots) to a 4 year, $20m ($9m guaranteed) deal.

9. They receive four compensatory picks: a 3rd, a 4th, a 5th, and a 6th.

On with the show:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/r7gmVWgEpRc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

1. QB Jameis Winston, Florida State

The Chiefs trade up from #7 overall to #3 overall, giving up their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and their 1st in 2015 to do so.

Two elite QBs are coming out in this draft, Oregon's Marcus Mariota and FSU's Jameis Winston. Whoever doesn't go 1st overall, the Chiefs should be willing to trade away a great number of high picks to land. By my estimation, Mariota's the richer prize, so the Chiefs trade away a lot of picks for Winston.

So, the 30 year ban on 1st round QBs has ended. Winston would be a perfect fit for Andy Reid. Kid is very athletic, makes smart decisions and can be elite in the short passing game, as well as retaining plenty of arm to challenge secondaries deep.

3. CB Eric Murray, Minnesota

Phillip Gaines likely hasn't panned out in 2015, but the Chiefs refuse to learn from their mistakes and go for a Gaines clone in the 2015 draft. Eric Murray is a lanky, aggressive defender that plays with every bit of Brandon Flowers' passion. He should compete against Marcus Cooper to start, but like Gaines, will likely need a season or two to redshirt.

4. OT Le'Raven Clark, Texas Tech

Eric Fisher will probably look halfway not-terrible enough to warrant another year at LT. Donald Stephenson, however, has one year left before hitting free agency and there's no chance in hell the Chiefs re-sign him. They let Ryan Harris walk in free agency, too, and I have no idea of Ryan McKee will even make the roster this year (he should).

As a result, the Chiefs need a tackle. Because it's John ****ing Dorsey, he'll take a large tackle with great measurables that may or may not work out. Unlike Fisher, however, they can afford to redshirt him for a year.

5. NT Leon Orr, Florida

A bit undersized as a nose tackle, the Chiefs still need someone who can spell Dontari Poe.

5. C Brandon Vitabile, Northwestern

Kush is now starting. The NFL's youngest line got even younger. The Chiefs need more depth here.

6. CB Ladarius Gunter, Miami

He's 6'2", and Dorsey doesn't give a shit.

6. TE Ben Koyack, Notre Dame

"But, wait, Koyack was a blocking tight end!"

You're damn right he was. That's apparently how Dorsey likes them.

7. ILB Kris Frost, Auburn

Kris Frost is a talented underclassman that should be coming out in 2015. He's a good tackle with solid instincts.

I know people won't want to hear this but if even we go 5-11, realistically I don't see us drafting a QB. with the first pick. Doresy and Reid aren't going to do that. What's going to happen is they're going to get Alex Smith for less money. Sorry to piss on your fire.

Less money than what? A first round QB drafted in the top ten would get 5 to 6 Mil a year with a team option for the fifth year. Alex Smith would make that 25- 30 mill by year two under a team friendly deal. Please, relegate further posts of this quality to the lounge, where they are easy to ignore.

Winston is going to be a major bust. Rape charges and then after that he gets caught stealing crab legs from the grocery store? That's not the mistakes of a "regular kid", that's how a POS thug acts. Give him money and see what happens, it's not going to be pretty.

RunKC 08-25-2014 09:02 PM

How is this team supposed to get better when they never have 2nd rd picks? That's an essential way to get good talent on this team

Saccopoo 08-25-2014 10:08 PM

Mad props for the intro song.

The xx is one of the better bands out right now and Jamie is doing some really cool stuff on his own as well.

However, do we really have to take the illiterate raper?

If you're going to trade up for a QB, at least trade up for Mariota. He has a good head on his shoulders, stays clean on and off the field, and has better speed than RG3 and Kaepernick did in college. I swear he looks like the fastest guy on the Ducks when he runs sometimes. On top of that, he is a better passer than Kaepernick was coming out as well.

Dunerdr 08-26-2014 10:38 AM

Your ****in high if you think they give up the house for a guy who steals crab legs.

Go **** yourself dumbass. Reid doesn't want to **** with a rookie QB. Understand? Part of the reason he chose KC was because of the veteran talent. If the Chiefs go 6-10, Alex will be cheaper than if they go 10-6. They want Alex period. He was adamant about that when he took the job. That's who Reid wants no matter what happens this year. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand. Read people's posts and you won't look so stupid ****stick.
