Late Night Bullshit: Defensive Coordinators
I've heard lots of names thrown out there for offensive coordinators...but when it comes down to Reid's most important coaching hire, I haven't heard much.
I was hoping on the Rivera angle for awhile, but now that is off the table and his defensive staff was a joke (moving a good offensive line coach to dc) so there isn't much to try and pluck away that could be considered a good hire... Who are some of the guys that make sense as our DC? |
Slightly off-topic, but does anybody know why the **** Gunther Cunningham still has a job?

Is there any way to pay wade Phillips ten kazillion dollars and get him?
|
Romeo Crennel
 |
|
Kevin Greene would make sense being he is a guy from GB and Dorsey is rumored to be our next gm.

Kevin Greene would take Justin Houston and just make him rape entire worlds.
|
Haha is Greg Lloyd coaching somewhere, too?
|
Jim Tomsula
Reggie Herring Bill Kollar Kris Richard Rocky Seto Jim Leavitt are all guys I'd interview |
I'm not familiar with most of those names...can you hook a playa up with a little info on them and why you like them?

Mike Singletary?
|
I'd interview Mark Carrier.....Bengals DB coach.

Although I'd through Kevin Butler on that list, if nothing else than to make the Rooney's overpay. |
Jim Leavitt is intriguing with his longtime head coaching tenure on the resume.
I know nothing about his ability to be a defensive coordinator or not, though. |

Mark Carrier, a three-time Pro Bowl selection as an NFL safety, joined the Bengals on Feb. 13 of this year as defensive backs coach.*Carrier is entering his seventh year as an NFL position coach. He spent the last two seasons (2010-11) as defensive line coach for the New York Jets and was defensive backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens from 2006-09.“Mark is a great choice for us as he moves back to his old position, coaching the defensive secondary,” said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis. “He experienced success as a coach with two fine NFL defenses, and he will do very well with our group.”In 2011, Carrier’s defensive line helped the Jets finish fifth in the NFL in fewest yards allowed per game (312.1), fifth in fewest yards allowed per play (5.0) and seventh in fewest yards allowed per rushing play (3.9). In 2010, the Jets finished third in the NFL in fewest rushing yards allowed and third in fewest yards per rushing play.During Carrier’s term as defensive backs coach in Baltimore, the Ravens had the NFL’s second-most interceptions (93), with S Ed Reed performing as one of the league’s premier players. Reed earned Pro Bowl selections in each of his four years playing under Carrier, and in 2008, Reed was the only unanimous selection to the prestigious Associated Press All-Pro team.

Dick Jauron.
|
no to Mike Singletary lolol wow
|
Really like Ken Norton Jr. from Seattle if we go to the 4-3. I think he's done a great job at USC and Seattle.

Personally, I don't see him as a fit. |

Bill Cowher! Jon Gruden as OC.

John Pagano
|
Just throwing the name out there... think Dick Bumpas would make the move to the NFL? He's never coached anything on an NFL team before, not even as a position coach.

Reggie Herring or John Pagano - Wade Phillips 1-gap 3-4 I didn't realize Monte Kiffin was starting to run a lot more of the 4-3 Under. I'm not a big fan of his right now at his age and recent track record. But I'm really intrigued by his defense because it basically runs a 4-3 with 3-4 personnel. This is a really good fit for the Chiefs right now. Other guys to consider are Mark Pettine of the Jets who might have interest in running more of a 46 type look. I don't know if Ed Donatell would plan to run a 49ers version of the 3-4 -- my fear is as DC, he'd go back to a pure 4-3 and he wasn't overly successful in previous stints. |
Raheem Morris? Hes only been in the 3-4 one year though.

I'd love for Reggie Herring to get the job. I just don't know if Andy is connected to him that well.
Andy isn't exactly Pioli when it comes to only hiring people he knows, but he has like.... zero connections to the guy |
Remember when David Gibbs was highly thought of?
|
Dick's defense in Chicago was 25th and 14th.
In Buffalo as HC, Dick's defense ranked 19th, 31st 14th In Cleveland this the last 2 years, Dick's defense's ranked 10th 23rd. Average at best. Do not want. |
i will cry if its that turd stain Dick Jauron

Actually, I liked Gibbs a lot. It appears he has gotten the short end of the stick by the Texans when they made the DC switch. |

Houston has a great balance currently of drafting players to fit their offensive and defensive philosophies recently. |

So the top three realistic candidates are?

Winston Moss maybe
|
I'd say Winston Moss, but I guess he's an assistant head coach.

Do you honestly think that Carroll knew about and condoned Bush's family receiving $250k and a beach side rental? Hell, even O.J got to keep his Heisman. |
Darren Perry has been in both Pittsburgh and Green Bay but I'm not sure he is quite ready yet.

Herring and Tomsula are much better in the fact they have more time in the 34 than a guy like Moss. Perry is too much of an unknown but throwing his name out there. Greg Manusky is another that has experience in it. Under Phillips too. I just don't know about him either though |
