Well, maybe.

According to a good source inside Arrowhead that has seen Bill Polian with Clark Hunt with his “own eyes,” if Polian wants the Chiefs General Manager job, it is his. Polian, the former GM of the Indianapolis Colts, would bring his long-time coach Tony Dungy back to KC as the head coach and his son Chris would be the VP and take over when Bill retires.





The source also indicates that MOST of the current staff has already cleaned out their offices and three assistant coaches have been told not to make the trip to Denver and that Norv Turner will be the offensive coordinator and Dom Capers the new defensive coordinator. Now, for these two, I’m a bit more skeptical. Turner is currently the head coach at San Diego, and although he is expected to be fired, his committal to a lesser job right off the bat is questionable at best. That said, the ship on him being a head coach has sailed. Capers, is the current defensive coordinator for the Packers, a team that will be a Super Bowl contender every year for the foreseeable future, so why would he leave? $$$? Capers’ name is also out there as a potential head coach if Dungy elects to stay retired, which would be a God awful hire. He is 48-80 in eight years as a head coach at Carolina and Houston, where he made the playoffs once, advancing to the NFC Championship game at Carolina in 1996 after winning the NFC West.

The source is a good source, but like anything else, Polian may or may not accept the job, and the same goes for Dungy.

But, if this does come to fruition, wow. Another Festivus Miracle!

Dungy was a defensive backs coach in KC under Marty Shottenheimer from 1989-91, before moving on to Minnesota to be the defensive coordinator under Dennis Green before turning around the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, then the Colts. Dungy has been out of coaching since 2009.

Polian was the General Manager in Buffalo from 1986-1993, where he took over a team that was coming off back-to-back 2-14 seasons. Polian won the NFL Executive of the Year Award twice in 1988 and in 1991.He was fired following three straight Super Bowl losses. Two seasons later, he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers for four seasons through 2007, where Capers was his head coach. He then moved on to Indianapolis, where he was President and eventually Chris was the GM. Polian was fired by owner Jim Irsay after the Colts finished with a 2–14 record in the 2011-2012 season, where Peyton Manning missed the season with injury, which begs the question, were Dungy and Polian as good as their QB was?

I think Tony Dungy is one of the most overrated coaches of all-time. OMG. He's another Herm at best.

They are talking about John Fox for COY...I think any coach with Peyton Manning should be ineligible for that award. Peyton won DESPITE Dungy.

I'm at least adding a "?" to the end of this and I'm highly skeptical that much more than the Polian part is true.

polian could be the next guy, I can see that as possible. but dungy has been HC for two NFL teams, I doubt he wants to start that up again.

It implied that this is a done deal. If this had come from one of the well-known local or national beat writers, that'd be one thing. But "KC Sports Nation"? I've never even heard of them.

Not to mention that aside from seeing Polian with his own eyes and some of the current staff clearing out, everything else seems to be complete speculation framed as fact.

I heard Dungy on the radio a while back and he didn't sound interested in coaching again at all. He was far more interested in watching his son play ball at Oregon and he was getting his football "fix" through his gig as an analyst. Said he'd be 58-60 when his boy was done with college and he didn't see getting back into the grind at that age.

I heard Mark Mangino was interested in the Chiefs job. Likes all that BBQ. Was seen at a BBQ restaurant in San Antonio, TX last week. Might mean he wants to go to a city where he can eat lots of BBQ. Kansas City would be that type of city.

He will eat pioli. Crennel would be quite a challenge though.

This whole thing makes very little sense. None of those coaching philosophies make any sense together. Capers and Dungy are total opposites and Norv and Dungy are, too.

If some dumb shit like this does go down, it's pretty much worst case scenario IMO because we would trade down and take Aaron Murray (Dungy has publicly said multiple times that he thinks Murray is the best of class) and the defense would go to a scheme that is opposite of what it has shown the ability to excel at.

Dungy is a paper tiger that would be a failure here.

Dungy is a good enough game manager, he led a pass heavy offense in Indy, and he can actually coach up players whereas herm was a defensive backs coach who leaped to head coach.

The only comparison is that they both run an obsolete defense and are generally conservative. Comparing him to herm, who was a pure motivator, is ridiculous.

I don't want dungy. But honestly, it's baffling to me that the same people who rip on dungy want cowher. To me, dungy is a lot more cowher than he is herm.

Dungy had exactly the same kind of team in Tampa Bay that Herman ****ing Edwards had in New York.

The only real difference between Dungy and Herman ****ing Edwards is Peyton Manning.

If Dungy were a real ****ing coach, he'd have won more than one SB with Manning.

They were both great coaches at what they did promoted above their level of...**** it....you know the rest.

Tony Dungy retired at the peak of Peyton's career. He's not coaching in the NFL, if ever again.
