Call of Duty will go head-to-head with Battlefield 3 in 2011.

The third game in the series, which will be shown to press during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month, is set for release this coming fall, Electronic Arts confirmed.

The publisher revealed the first teaser trailer for the game on its official website tonight. The trailer, which contains no actual gameplay, displays quick cuts of helicopters, ground troops, tanks and fighter jets.

Additional details courtesy of the official Battlefield Blog confirm a full single-player and co-op campaign, jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer for the PC version. The Frostbite 2 engine will power the game and a Limited Edition will be revealed around GDC.

Developer DICE confirmed earlier this morning it was canceling the release of Battlefield 1943 and the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught pack for PC.

This should be interesting. If I remember correctly the major developers behind MW2 escaped to EA. I wonder how many of their fingerprints will be on this game...

Not much of it. The IW team-members that left for EA formed Respawn Entertainment, but they are still caught up in legal battles with Activision.

Should be a good one. IMO Battlefield is a lot better than the MW series.

WV 02-06-2011 10:49 PM

There are certain things I like about both series. I haven't taken the Black Ops plunge in COD and I'm not sure I will.

The key advantages to Battlefiled to me is the huge maps, squads, vehicles (I know WOW had tanks), and the destruction features.

Valiant 02-07-2011 05:38 PM

I loved BF2142 on PC before the cheaters came..

I liked MW2 because of the playstyles you could choose from before the cheaters came..

Black Ops I hated from the start.. Just seems too easy.. Though DOA is fun..

Thing back, I like the previous PC battlefields before 2142, have only played the BF series on PC..

Personally I want BF to do a GIJoe version..

The original, BF1942, was the best in the series, IMHO - that game was unbelievable...

Oh man, I had some really fun times in that game. Mainly from plane camping.

Abba-Dabba 02-09-2011 01:30 AM

Will agree that BF is a better all around FPS than any CoD game developed by either Infinity Ward or Treyarch. I think BF2 was the best BF game to date however vs. 1942 or 2142. Every FPS that comes out tries to live up to the expectations that BF2 provided. Where BF2 screwed the pooch is the 1.20 patch that took away being able to jump squads while dead. That pissed a lot of people off because nobody ever complained about it and everyone liked being able to do it.

2142 had some nice things about it. The Speeder for Northern Strike was simply the most fun vehicle I have ever played with in a game. Wire guided missles, automatic grenade launcher and when driving you have side mounted coaxial weapons. Still think I'm #1 in the U.S. for it after all these years, #5 in the world.

Have quit playing CoDBO and have called off buying any more CoD titles in the furture. CoD games to me are just mindless run and gun. No real team play with them.

Lately been playing BFPlay4Free closed beta. It's not bad for a free game.

WV 02-09-2011 08:41 AM

As much as I hate to admit it being a PS3 fan, the squad feature is made that much better on XBL with the party feature. I'm not sure if you can do that on the PS3 version, but there isn't much more annoying than listening to everyone in the game talking.

I am done buying COD/MW titles. Haven't played BF ever, but I hear it is much more team oriented. I am trying to convince all my friends to make the switch since we like team play the most. Tired of arcade style run and shoot.

I was a loyal COD player until BO and I can't say the game play is all that much different. COD is more of a loner game while BC2 does require more teamwork depending on what game you choose, so in that aspect I think BC2 takes more skill. I'm not so sure about the intensity either, both can get pretty intense it all depends on the match. COD generally has some smaller maps and with those there is more chaos, so I guess you could call that more intense but I think its more about personal preference.

As far as shooting and killing, I think COD games take more skill than BFBC2, but then again, I never played BFBC2 on Hardcore. I guess BC2 did get pretty intense in some Rush matches.

That's just crazy talk.

All COD is is running around and playing lone gunman.

Battlefield is so great. All I play is rush. The best is when you spend nearly an hour fighting, losing bases, fighting more and then holding them off on the last base.

Such a fulfilling feeling I've never got from COD.

If I've got my ping going well I'm unbeatable at COD, just not that fun.

So repetitive.

Ping matters so much less with BC2.

Agreed. While i'm not a huge fan of either series, i've played both for a fair amount of time. CoD is very arcade-ish, Battlefield is more strategic. Both have their niche.

MW and MW2 were pretty good. Infinity Ward ain't no slouch.

But this Black Ops plays like a cartoon. I really hate it. Treyarch is not so good.

With that said Dice is using Frostbite 2.0 for this, it looks freaking incredible.

I WAS a huge fan of cod, but then they started coming out with new titles every year and a half 2 years so i stopped buying them(besides Black OPS for the zombies) and i would have to agree with this statement. Cod is run and gun while bf is WAY more team oriented.

Considering that pretty much all 3rd party titles released on both have always looked slightly better on the 360, I would have to say the answer to your question is "No."

People don't agree, but most games are held back when released on all platforms in regards to the PS3. It's capable of much better graphics than the XBox, but to make it compatible across all platforms it's "scaled back". Unless it's specifically written for the PS3 you won't get the great graphics. IMO no one has really taken full advantage of the PS3's capabilities though.

Apparently it's not easy to take advantage of that extra power, and often isn't worth the trouble. Or so I've heard.

Wouldn't doubt it.

I have a feeling that after a couple months people realized that they straight got ripped off with Black Ops (myself included)...

I had BFBC2 beforehand, bought Black Ops, and needed a couple weeks to stop playing.

I'm back on BFBC2 now and everytime I start a new round it feels like a brand new game.

The free map add ons and the Vietnam expansion have been genius. Hope they keep up the goodwork with BF3.

Didn't think of that angle, but it makes sense to me. It's cheaper now and still huge fun.

Side note, I was trying to unlock the M1 garand and had trouble with it having no other Battlefield titles....I just got on chat with Xbox and the guy instantly made my vet status 5. Don't use it, but I have it now anyway.

No....the M1 typically unlocks for nothing if you have more than one Battlefield title in your game library. I tried getting it by adding Battlefield Heros (online game) and it wouldnt recognize it, so I got on Xbox live customer service chat and the guy gave me a Vet level of 5 (highest i think) and the M1 unlocked.

Don't even start comparing Dice to ****ing Treyarch, dude. Battlefield games never have and never will fail. Forstbite 2 is probably going to make this one of the best military shooters every released.

Black Ops was done by Treyacrh who have always ridden IW's coattails.

It does get you additional maps, but not Vietnam.

yea they were pretty good over the last year by releasing new maps and new game types on existing maps for free if you had the vip edition.

Vietnam is separate, but it really is like a whole different game.

If your playing online I would say yes, if your just playing the game through then no. Online play is limited when you don't have the add-ons because you can't play in all the maps, but I would say you can probably skip Vietnam all together unless you really want it.

I also highly recommend this video to help you in BC2.....no offense intended either, it really would have helped me in the beginning.

You should get BFBC2 for two reasons:

1. It's a ****ing awesome game.

2. You're going to need the practice for when BF3 is released. Like COD, BF is one of those games that has an extremely high learning curve thus for it really to be fun you need to be one of the better players. Since everyone is pretty good it takes really knowing everything about the game that much more important.

Usually with these games i suck for the first couple months and then get as good as most of the other players. But by that time my K/D is already ****ed so I end up with it hovering around 1.00...

I want to be north of K/D 1.50 for BF3. For that reason I think you should get BFBC2.

I would get everything except Vietnam.

Vietnam is really fun though, but try the original first to make sure you like.

BF3 is going to feel very different from BF:BC2 because it'll be running on a brand new engine, I'd imagine.

I'm probably taking "Homefront" back tonight (what a turd) and picking up BBC2; never played any of the installments.

Don't expect it to be anything like COD, it's completely different. The shooting and killing part is a lot more clumsy, and you WILL need people you know to play it with. It's not very fun to play by yourself. It's a great game, though. The BF series is right up there with the best of all time, a real pillar in the history of games.

thanks; good info; didn't realize you needed folks to play with etc.

Don't get me wrong, it's totally playable by yourself, it's just not very fun it your team isn't working like one. BF:BC2 is ALL about good teamwork and it's build completely around that aspect.

It just doesn't feel as smooth as CoD. The mechanics are slower and not as polished, but don't let that take anything away from the game. It is great.

I don't know if it's clumsy, it's just not as smooth and crisp like a COD or a Halo. Can't really describe it, but it just feels like you're a lot bulkier and the character animations aren't 100%. It's still a sweet ****ing game, I mean you're talking to the guy who has gold stars for all guns and multiple platinums (1000 kills with the gun gets you a platinum star).

The best thing about you Pants is that you are so humble.

Hey man, I was just letting the man know I spent a shit ton of time playing the game. I wasn't bragging, dummy. It'd be akin to bragging about being 15th Prestige in COD, all it means is that you have no life.
