SceneItAll Tournament: Round 1, Heat 128

The rules:

In Round 1, I'm going to put up three randomly selected scenes from the nomination thread.

You'll vote for your ONE favorite scene among the three. The key here is FAVORITE. We're not talking about the 'best' or 'most powerful' or 'most meaningful'. We're talking about the scene that you most enjoy watching, however you define that.

The winners will move on. I'll also take the 10 highest-scoring second-place scenes and they'll advance as wild cards.

Some of our nominations did not include clips. This will be noted. If you find a clip, please post it and let me know so I can update it if it moves on.

In! **** yeah!

I'm not scared after watching these, other than a deep concern for the movie industry. My votes:

#1 - Beetlejuice. I'm a fan of the movie and this is perhaps the best scene, but I don't think the movie is aging very well. I got to see some booty shaking, though, and I like the song. Easy #1.

#2 - Tenacious D. I wish I could vote this #3. When Meat Loaf is in a scene it's pretty good. When Jack Black is in a scene, it's bad. This is bad.

#3 - Prince of Darkness. WTF was that?

cosmo20002 04-22-2014 07:10 PM

Another Beetlejuice? Ugh.

If aliens are following this poll they will get the impression that the Tenacious D movie is our greatest achievement in cinema.

Dave Grohl will always get my vote. That drum part at 2:17 is no joke.

You'd have to watch the whole movie to get it, but to me, that's one of the creepiest ****ing horror movies I've seen. It holds up better than most horror movies and is probably my favorite John Carpenter film.

The translation from the dream sequence:
Quote:

This is not a dream... not a dream. We are using your brain's electrical system as a receiver. We are unable to transmit through conscious neural interference. You are receiving this broadcast as a dream. We are transmitting from the year one, nine, nine, nine. You are receiving this broadcast in order to alter the events you are seeing. Our technology has not developed a transmitter strong enough to reach your conscious state of awareness, but this is not a dream. You are seeing what is actually occurring for the purpose of causality violation.
And his inspiration for the film:
Quote:

Carpenter was inspired to write Prince of Darkness by his interest in quantum mechanics. He told biographer Gilles Boulenger: "I'd been doing a lot of reading on theoretical physics and atomic theory, and I found it to be amazing. Not only amazing, but also it was transforming the truth of it all. The point of quantum mechanics is something called 'observer-created reality', which in one bold and terrifying stroke slams at the heart of human perception and its understanding of the objective Newtonian reality. So I thought it would be interesting to create some sort of ultimate evil and combine it with the notion of matter and anti-matter. Since there is a mirror of anti-matter for every particle of matter, I thought it would be great to have an anti-God, namely a mirror opposite of God that would be totally evil. I started from that premise and worked in various ideas."
