Three Quarter stats from week 1

Knew this instinctively, although I hadn't thought about it statistically until I reviewed the gamebook to tally the numbers.

Through 3 quarters, Baltimore held the ball for 31:33. Which is essentially an entire game any other week. Some other 3 quarter stats of note:

Baltimore had 346 yards of total offense
Baltimore had 127 yards rushing
Baltimore had 219 yards passing
Flacco was 21-33 for 223 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT

Those wouldn't be embarrassing numbers for four quarters of football. Unfortunately Baltimore had another 8+ minutes to accrue stats.

One more 3 quarter stat, a really, really bad one:

Baltimore was 8-13 on 3rd down (61.5%).
Substat: Baltimore was 6-10 in 3rd and long (5+ yards) (60%).

But I feel like the defense was improved.

Actually, watching the game at the stadium, I felt that the defense was improved.

It felt like they weren't in synch, but I never had the feeling we couldn't make a play like I had much of last season. I was mainly focusing my ire on Leggett.

Flacco had time to find the open receiver, but he was running a lot, making good reads to his drop-off man. While we didn't get a lot of sacks, there was occassional pressure. He just has the wheels to avoid trouble.

Most KC fans didn't take him seriously. I've watched him too many weekends here in Central MD. He's going to be a good QB if they get him a couple more weapons to play with.

I think some of it had to do with the fact the offense couldn't sustain a drive. If the offense can't stay on the field, stats like this are going to happen - especially in the 2nd half.

The defense is likely improved simply by subtracting Gunther.

Of course.

But as TBG said, ridding ourselves of Gun can be nothing but a step in the right direction.

I think our defense is improved. We put them into ten third and long plays defensively. But, we kept letting them get them. Our LB's can't cover worth a damn and Leggett was being played too far off the receivers. Our D-Line wasn't as bad as all that, but the QB could count to three and have a wide open receiver every time.
