Shooting at TDKR Midnight Premiere in Aurora, CO. Multiple dead.

At least 10 moviegoers were killed and 39 injured at a cinema in the Colorado city of Aurora in the Denver suburbs. They were attending a midnight showing of the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.

The theater was packed with a lot of people, many of them young fans, at the time the shooting started, 9news reports. The violence erupted some 15 minutes after the movie started, witnesses said.

Some say that when they first heard the shooting, they thought it was some new type of special effect.

Local media reports that two gunmen were involved in the rampage. An explosive device was set off during the shooting, injuring several people.

Witnesses said the gunmen were probably wearing body armor and gas masks and used some kind of a tear gas bomb in the attack.

Some reports say police have apprehended one of the assailants while the second one is still at large.

Police have cleared people from the scene over fears that another explosive device might be on the premises.

Aurora medical services were alerted to attend to the large number of injured

My brother lives in Denver. He's on the north side, 20+ miles from this with plenty of theaters nearer so I'm not to concerned with the possibility he was there. Pezman, a Bronco fan who used to post here a lot actually attended the movie last night but he selected a theater a couple miles from this one. I'm intrigued to discover motive here. Not that any reason is going to make sense but it is going to be interesting to find out more about the loon who did this.

R8RFAN 07-20-2012 04:58 AM

In NC you cannot have a Concealed Carry at a place where admission is charged to get in, Don't know if it's similar there but 4 or 5 armed patrons could have possibly saved alot of lives and injuries...

Yeah - I can't tell if this is 50 injured PLUS 14 dead or if the 14 dead are among the 50 injured... Any way you slice it, that dead total is likely to rise over the next couple days.

It varies state by state.

However, I agree. A few CC holders could've put some resistance against these cowards.

Hell, this old bastard shut down 2 cowards in seconds.

While we're talking hypotheticals, CC could killed more in the crossfire. And I heard the guy had a vest on so they better be good at head shots.

Nope. Any member here would tell you that they would have been cool, calm, collected, and a crack shot in this situation. They would have saved countless lives.

rockymtnchief 07-20-2012 05:41 AM

Hypotheticals aside, most of these cowardly pricks have a game plan and a vision in their head how they're going to rob or get famous. Some armed resistance throws a wrench in their plans and they flee.

Get on the floor and let the CCW'ers and bad guys shoot it out...or get on the floor and pray the cowards don't see you. It's your choice. (Assuming they were covering the exits)

doubt that dude. His facebook and twitter page are going to be blowing up, he's going to get a book deal with Oprah about how his parents got divorced, then he is going to set in motion a hard change in the way they sell weapons. He is going to die feeling like he made history.

True.

I read a few other BB's where the "give them a fair trial" crowd comes out of the woodwork. There should be no ifs/ands/or buts here. Fit them with a noose.

Agreed. Same as the Ft Hood shooting. When you have like 100 people who can identify the shooter instantly, stop wasting time and put them to death within the week.

Direckshun 07-20-2012 06:19 AM

I heard on the morning news that the shooter was dressed up as Batman.

Also, that article (the one in the click-through link, at least) is one of the most horrendously written things I've read in a long time. Is RT a news site for teenagers? "Packed with a lot of people"? "The Colorado city of Aurora in the Denver Suburbs"?

I don't care about him having a trial because it's fair or not fair for him. I just think these scumbags take the easy way out and kill themselves at the scene so they don't have to look anyone in the eye. I want to see them have to sit there and listen to what they did before they get executed.

I'm guessing it will be something like he was pissed off because the theater had no more tickets for the midnight showing, or they kicked him out at one point or another.

That's just silly the guy had a vest, used tear gas grenades and powerful long guns. There would have been people running all over the place. If someone else started shooting they would have almost no chance of hitting him in a dark theater and wouldn't have stopped him even if they did given the vest. What they would have hit was innocent bystanders.

I was thinking about this....you'd have to be as crazy as the shooter to pull it off and beat him without injuring someone else.

Would people have been killed: yes. Would the damage done have been reduced: probably.

I think I'll pass on the idea of a half dozen armed theatergoers firing wildly into the smokey darkness in the hopes of hitting the better prepared and better equipped crazy guy. The correct response when someone opens fire is to run like mad, which they did.

I feel terrible for the victims.

I don’t know about “silly” but this is a good point. Part of being a responsible CCW is not just being Johnny On-the-Spot but also knowing when not to shoot.
In this case you’ve got a motivated killer so you have to quickly come up with a plan. You can’t just pull your gat and let the lead fly, that’ll get even more killed.
I would think that if you’re in the line of fire just keep your head down and encourage everyone around you to do the same, but if you can approach from the killer’s blind side closing the distance quickly then put an end to it.

This.

My CCW weapon is a .45 acp. If it didn't go through the vest, it would still put a man on his ass out of air. Leaving time to escape or over power him.

Regarding armed movie goers: Do you think these loons would've pulled this shit if they knew there was a chance 5 individuals were armed in the theater? Hell no!

An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.

Dayze 07-20-2012 07:52 AM

this one is interesting from a CCW perspective. I can see both sides of the argument.
but personally, I'd feel better if I were carrying. Would I die? possibly. would someone else get hit with a stray bullet? possibly.

I'd rather have a chance, than no chance. I agree - if you have a chance, you GTFO of there. but if it came down to a scenario where I wasn't able to, I'd want the chance to possibly get out while armed.

interesting though. It makes me so mad when I heard about these shootings. Cowards. prayers to the victims families, and healthy recovery for those who were injured.

No I don't think it would deter the crazy & evil people out there from attempting to do this stuff. Not at all.

Would they get capped by someone who is armed? Possibly yeah. But I don't think it'd stop the attempt. They're crazy for a reason.

Of course the thought that this was just a disturbed young man could not possibly be the cause...
