ESPN BIG MONDAY
No. 6/6 Kansas (14-1, 2-0) continues its quest for nine-straight Big 12 regular-season championships when it plays host to Baylor (11-4, 3-0) on ESPN's Big Monday, Jan. 14 at 8 p.m. Kansas was the preseason selection to win the 2013 Big 12 title, while Baylor was second. Withey v. Austin should be fun to watch.

DaFace 01-14-2013 10:33 AM

Confusing thread is confusing.

Ceej 01-14-2013 10:35 AM

Sounds like someone couldn't wait until Saturday to start drinking.

Today is the 14th, n00b!

Lzen 01-14-2013 11:41 AM

Ehhhh, good catch. I just copied and pasted from the KU athletics website. They must have posted that yesterday.

teedubya 01-14-2013 11:46 AM

This should be a fun one... albeit tough. Could be an L. Hope not... but, KU has played a bit sluggish the last 10 days or so.

Titty Meat 01-14-2013 11:47 AM

This thread sucks

CoMoChief 01-14-2013 11:52 AM

forgot about this game.....can't wait.

I don't know of a more overrated coach than Scott Drew.....maybe Rick Barnes.

Baylor gets a shit load of talent....enough so they should consistantly be a top15 team....somehow someway they shit their pants every year.

Should be a good game. Drew can’t coach, but Jackson is a legit threat and you never know when a 1-and-done type might go off.

I’m hoping Self will come up with an answer for all these teams that try to get Withey out of the paint, because you know we will see it from now on.

Sucks like

8 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN A ROW, BEE-OTCH!

Ceej 01-14-2013 02:22 PM

Three big things that instantly worry me:

Austin's capability to pull Withey away from the basket. Austin has some range for a legit 7 footer.

Containing Jackson's penetration. Dude is unbelievably quick with the ball. He can shoot too.

Guarding the shit out of Heislip. EJ, Releford, BMac, whomever need to do a solid job.

Elijah Johnson better show up tonight.

Every year though it seems Baylor is incredibly talented and poorly coached. Drew is a turd.

Braincase 01-14-2013 04:17 PM

Baylor has suffered losses to Colorado, Charleston, Northwestern & Gonzaga. Their significant wins have been over the rest of Texas. They're going to brag about Kentucky and a couple of others, but I think at the Phog, we should win, but it could be close - but not Iowa State close.

Ceej 01-14-2013 04:47 PM

Which two Big East teams do we get to loathe tonight?

Ceej 01-14-2013 06:03 PM

Louisville and UConn...

Ugh.

DJay23 01-14-2013 06:29 PM

I'd be surprised if Withey is on Austin. I think he'll play Jefferson keeping him in the paint. Austin plays more like a 3 anyway. We'll see I guess.

I'm always worried when we play Baylor. On paper they should be competitive but Drew always manages to drag them down.

The fact that ESPN is having a weekly "proper burial" for the about-to-be broken up Big East further shows how much of a hard-on ESPN has for all things east coast. They are all "so sad" that it's being broken up. It's the most overrated piece of shit conference ever.

From the rumors Ive heard, ESPN played a major role in breaking up the Big East, after the Big East started shopping their TV rights rather than re-signing ESPN's (meager) offer.

Chiefs Pantalones 01-14-2013 07:55 PM

OMG it's OVER!!! STOP TRYING TO PRESS

Ceej 01-14-2013 08:06 PM

Withey says, "FEED ME MORE!"

Mr_Tomahawk 01-14-2013 08:08 PM

let's do this

Chiefs Pantalones 01-14-2013 08:18 PM

Was that #2 on EJ?

DJay23 01-14-2013 08:18 PM

So far so good. They look way better than at the start of the last few.

Ceej 01-14-2013 08:19 PM

EJ being lazy and picking up his 2nd foul.

Tharpe gets to guard Jackson.

Weeeeeeee.....

teedubya 01-14-2013 08:20 PM

Withey is a straight up pimp.

chiefsfan987 01-14-2013 08:22 PM

This is different.... we don't generally have a game thread anymore. If we lose I'm blaming it on this not being in the other thread.

Ceej 01-14-2013 08:22 PM

The Drew gangsta, street ball offense ran to perfection.

c'mon Ellis ... take a step or 2 inside the 3-line and hit that shot from the free throw line.

It would be a huge help on offense if we could get a guy to force them to stop doubling Withey.

I think since a foul was called they don't count the goal tend (because it was pretty obvious). I seem to remember something like that happening against maybe ISU and we didn't get the call for that reason.

Chiefs Pantalones 01-14-2013 08:53 PM

Geez Ellis misses so many bunnies

Man, he barely skimmed him if at all.

I don't like it either, but you have to know the rule if you're Releford and not put yourself in that position.

Ceej 01-14-2013 09:01 PM

Good defensive first half.

Yea, the call was made according to the rule.

The rule just sucks.

DJay23 01-14-2013 09:01 PM

Impressive defensive performance. Holy shit you have to be brave to take that ball in the paint. Baylor is one of the best teams in the country at scoring in the paint too. I'm impressed. I just wish more of Ellis' shots would fall, I like the aggression he's showing.

Mr. Laz 01-14-2013 09:02 PM

worthless play to end the 1st half

our offense is slow developing, we need to start at 15 seconds instead of 10 imo

Yeah, it's a PC pussy reaction rule to all of the concussions in sports. Don't want a concussion? Get your ****ing face out of the way. Exceptions can be made for obviously intentional swinging elbows, but damn let a guy move a little.

our offense is slow developing, we need to start at 15 seconds instead of 10 imo

I miss 2 years ago when it seemed like we ended every half with a Tyrel Reed 3.

ESPN just said 9, but cbssportsline has 11 blocks for KU at half. THat's domination.

McLemore, Withey, and Young with 3 and Ellis with 2. I thought Traylor had a pretty loud one in there too.

We should be setting up the same thing for BMAC.

Blocks were adjusted, now cbssportsline says 8. 2 each for Ben, Withey, Traylor, and Ellis. None for Young.

KU only shooting 37%. This should be at least a 20 point lead.

That's fine ... if we want to wait until 10 seconds and then run 2 or 3 screens to get Bmac an open 3 shot.

but Nadir Tharpe? :spock:

Pretty much. I loathe that layoff. Hopefully now that we're playing every three days or so we'll get in a groove again.

Why didn't Young get credit for the block that led to the clock shot violation?

This is different.... we don't generally have a game thread anymore. If we lose I'm blaming it on this not being in the other thread.

And if we win?:hmmm:

Baylor has some length to bother shots, but damn we are missing a ton of gimmes.
