Why was Chan Gailey fired?

The Bills suck and Chan Gailey is the reason why. Why did Todd Haley fire him? He seems like he could be a good OC but he's a terrible head coach.

Littering on the premises.

Chiefspants 11-04-2012 11:08 PM

He and Haley had different offensive philosophies.

This is a relevant topic.

Chan was fired because he lied on his resume and said he coached for the Patriots. When Pioli's secret agents found out he was escorted from the premises.

That's untrue. Both run the Erhardt/Perkins offense.

Todd fired him because of his ego.

He was way too smart for these Patriotard Way ****ers.

I was certain that I read that Chan wanted to continue the spread style offense he ran with THIGPEN in 2008, perhaps I was mistaken?

I don't think it's ego as much as it is having a certain style and expecting to work in that style. Offensive coaches are very strong-minded when it comes to scheme. I think it's absolutely outrageous that a front office would hire an OC without any input whatsoever from the head coach. Yet another example of how laughably arrogant our front office is.

It's not like it's uncommon. McCarthy and Whisenhunt have pretty much de facto OCs. Shurmur calls plays in Cleveland. If Haley wanted strong say in play calling, the front office should have listened. Instead, for 2 years, they didn't listen to their head coach. What else is new? I would have liked to have seen how Haley would have done with a bright mind who was willing to play more of an offensive coordinator support role vs. being full-time play caller. But again, we will never know the answers to these things because Pioli didn't even try it.

Because Todd wanted his offense to be ran one way. Gailey wanted it a different way. It came down to that, and the fact that Haley felt more comfortable calling his own plays.

Yup. It's pretty demeaning when your head coach asks to call his own plays, and the GM bullheadedly hires two strong-minded offensive coordinators who would control the entire offensive system. In year 1, Pioli didn't give Haley nearly enough help. In year 2, he gave him way more help than Haley wanted. In year 3... I still believe that the Muir hiring validates Gretz's point that Pioli was trying to sabotage Haley to give him an excuse to be fired.

KCrockaholic 11-05-2012 12:13 AM

Didn't Muir like fall asleep during a game once or something...

Falling asleep. Throwing a temper tantrum like Daboll. Neither way seems to work.

My favorite thing about Haley other than he demanded a lot from the players was that he was a passionate coach. He cared about everything that went on, and he always gave his best. When he ran around cursing out players, and yelling at Bowe cause he was lined up incorrectly, it wasn't cause he was just an asshole, it was cause he cared about the team....

Romeo is like watching a toad wait for a fly to go by.

I asked this question a year or so ago to someone that has direct knowledge of the situation (same guy that gave me the information about the Todd/Josh finger pointing incident and how the backstory was that Josh had cheated in the game and Haley basically caught him...my info was later backed up by Dustin Colquit a month or so later) and was told that the biggest reason was that Todd wanted to be very hard on the players and to build their mental tougness up and Gailey somewhat undermined that and somewhat consoled the players after getting verbally assaulted by Haley.

Gaily is more of a nice guy that talks and is passive in his ways of dealing with problems...Haley was like a clone of Bill Parcells in that he would try to destroy a player in practice so that the player would be ready for almost anything during a game.

Todd caught wind of it and had a couple talks with Chan about it and when it continued, Todd fired him.

Todd basically ripped up every page of his playbook that the team had been working on to that point when he did so, too...fearing that Chan would use that information by sharing it with opposing teams.

I could definitely see that.
