The $32,000 question..

I was watching Who Wants To Be a Millionaire today (don't ask, I'm out of town for the weekend...), and somebody didn't know how to answer a question, and decided to walk with $32,000.

And I thought what I would do with that kind of money... I wouldn't buy a car -- mine works just fine, and I'm not one to just spend for the sake of having a "cooler" car.

So I figured I'd invest it.

But...
How? I realized that, in a perfectly normal economy (read, not overly bearish or bullish), I know the basics; diversify, look at Mutual Funds and Stocks (especially stocks that could benefit from political or cultural changes, etc), and possibly a CD at a guaranteed percentage from a bank.

I have NO idea what I would do in a terrible economy like this if I came in contact with that kind of money. I'm relatively young (25), so I'd want to invest, but I'd have no clue where to start.

What would you do?

How much would it be after taxes? Around 18K, or so? That sounds like a good time to pay off bills and then put what's left over towards the principal on the house.

Or, go have a wild weekend in Vegas. Tough call.

You usually have to pay extra for that, Cotton.

Bugeater 11-15-2008 07:12 PM

Meh, I'd just spend it.

I hadn't thought of that. This is my new choice for "most obvious spending decision" :)

Invest it all in firearms, canned goods, MRE's, camping supplies, etc.

The end is near, your money will be worthless.

On second thought, buying a little bit of gold wouldn't hurt.

I'd give most of it to the government, and then go out for dinner with what's left.

put it toward my mortgage. Even though my financial planner would advise against it.

Hide it under your mattress.

If you don't own a house, use it as a down payment
