'kay, so... If we sign Sanders...

... and we STILL go WR in the first, who's the most complementary, assuming Bowe and Sanders are starting?
- Beckham?
- Lee?
- Cooks?
- Evans?

We will have:
- Bowe
- Sanders
- Avery (might get cut)
- Hemmingway (or he might get cut)
- Jenkins (likely stays)
- Dressler (may not even make the team)

Direckshun 03-14-2014 10:24 PM

Dressler's just a guy. I agree Jenkins stays.

Avery probably stays as well for a year. He costs money to cut this year, and only saves $1m. Next year he's cuttable.

I think if we bring on Sanders.... I don't know. I think WR is no longer a 1st round consideration. I think OLB and secondary jump to the top of the list, with guard as a dark horse.

Whichever one of those guys is the burner. If the plan is receiver no matter what, I'd say they would look at the fastest guy available ranked that high. A speed guy to take the top off for Bowe, Sanders, Kelce, and Charles to work underneath.

Offensive line.

No doubt in my mind that if we sign Sanders that offensive line is the top priority.

Unless Dennard is still on the board, which I highly doubt.

With both Schwartz and Asamoah gone and Allen still very much in question in terms of his on-the-field performance, there is a massive, glaring hole at the OG position.

If Zach Martin is still on the board, I would think he's a damn near automatic lock. And they'll probably go back to that well again later in the draft.

However, to answer the OP:

At this point, I don't see them getting any of the guys you listed. I think that there is going to be a run on WR's. Lee might be the only guy from your list available, but that's a big maybe.

However, I think that Matthews or Moncrief will be available. I personally think that Moncrief would provide something that we currently don't have on the team at that position, but Matthews is a very nice prospect as well.

Sac, you are high off your goddamn rocker if you think we're going guard in the 1st. I will admit it's a possibility, but only an outside possibility.

That would honestly mean we're trotting out the highest-invested OL in the league, draft pick wise. I'm not even sure it would be close: 1st rounders at LT and RG, 2nd rounders at LG and C, and a 3rd rounder at RT. God.

For this exercise, I'm more asking, based on the skill set we already have on the roster, which WR draft prospect has the best skill set to compete?

I'm under the assumption that Sanders is the burner, and Bowe is the big possession guy. So does that mean the hole is at slot?

If its slot, does that mean Cooks is best? Or, as some might have you believe, we need to groom Bowe's replacement, should we go BPA WR - if so, who is he?

They would draft Martin that high due to his versatility. He's not just a potential probowl level guard, he's also a solid prospect at OT. They'll love that potential and take him as insurance for both Fisher and Stephenson.

I would say that Sanders is the slot guy. You go draft a potential #1 if you take receiver in the 1st after signing Sanders. Only one I see that might be available is between Benjamin, who I think will bust, and Matthews, who has an incredible work ethic and drive as well as great raw tools to work with.

I would go with Matthews because he has the potential to replace Bowe and really reminds me of Keenan Allen when he was at Cal.

Direckshun 03-14-2014 11:03 PM

Well Bowe gives us the possession guy (Matthews, Evans, & Benjamin). Avery and Sanders gives us deeper routes with sharp route running (Cooks). Jenkins gives you the super athletic slasher (Beckham).

Honestly, we'd probably convert Avery to the slot, but this team would really only be lacking one of those pint-size X factors. Cooks comes the closest to that, but he's more of a straightforward route-runner. Beckham is better than Jenkins, but they're both basically the same player.

Direckshun 03-14-2014 11:05 PM

Honestly, if we land Sanders, we'd be smarter to go with Josh Huff, Jalen Saunders, or Tevin Reese later in the draft. At least then we're not drafting a WR whose talents are duplicating another player on our roster.

Dante84 03-14-2014 11:10 PM

Wouldn't it be so refreshing to be stacked at the WR position?

I don't think, in my entire time as a Chief fan, that we've ever had 3 legitimate WR threats at the same time.

Eddie K was nice.
Rison was fun.

But there's so many assholes that have held that position for us.

I would love to run 3-4 deep for once.

Yeah, but the thing for me is that both Avery and Bowe are heading into their 30s. We need to find a true replacement for Bowe soon.

Sanders isn't all that young either.

This is a great draft to find a future #1. I'm not sure one will really be available in the 3rd; there are a bunch of slot guys and some possession guys but it'll be really hard to find a future #1 at that point.

I would consider taking Matthews in the first if Lee, Beckham, and Evans are gone.

Try being a DL aficionado and a Chiefs fan.

Bowe isn't going anywhere, he's at his peak and he'll still play well on his decline. Sanders is plenty young. He'll be under 30 for his entire contract with us.

I'm never opposed to finding another elite WR, however.

Hey, at least we've tried with the DL, even though we whiff.
