Buying a new charcoal grill

OK, folks. I'm buying a new charcoal grill, and was pretty firmly set on the Weber One-Touch Gold.

It's pretty highly rated, but it seems the negative reviews all seem to hit on the same points, including manufacturing not being up to Weber's par.

Anyone had one of these, especially one built in the last 2-3 years? Everything fit together well, air control still excellent?

Anything else (same price range - $150 or under) you'd recommend?

I don't know how you're going to beat it without spending significantly more money.

Weber is a good product. I got a One Touch Silver that is bulletproof. Had it probably 10 years, still use it periodically (tailgates, lake, etc) and still looks/cooks as good as new. I cook on ceramic now which costs 10x's what you're looking at. They probably aren't worth 10x's that though.

It's the best on that price range.

For how many people are you usually cooking for?

Weber outsourced quite a bit of their manufacturing to China a few years ago, and has begun using lesser grade stainless. I lucked out and got a Genesis on clearance for $145 the last year before the switch. Still better than most, but not as good as they used to be.

you won't get a better charcoal grill, no.

This.

FMB, you can now buy a pretty inexpensive kit that will let you convert that weber one touch to a weber smokey mountain cooker very easily and without messing with your grill. it is essentially a water pan holder inside, a charcoal ring, and a grill body extension that you just put over the grill as it is. If they had it two years ago, I would have gotten the weber one touch gold, the kit, and not bought the 22" wsm. check it out

Typically, just me and my wife. But a few times a year, as many as 6-8.

Awesome. I also had plans to get the WSM.

Is this what you're talking about? http://www.amazon.com/Smokenator-100.../dp/B000HI3I68

I have a Sam's special offset box smoker. While it's served me well, it's always burned through wood/charcoal pretty fast while smoking and takes up a good chunk of my relatively small patio.
