Car Problems: 1998 Lincoln Town Car Cartier
Weird. I've done quite a bit of work to this car. Alternator, both oxygen sensors, all 8 coil caps, and more. I have the NASCAR motor oil in it, and try and take really good care of it, but it's just coming apart at the seams it seems.
Car is losing power accelerating. Loses power going up hill, and I can floor it, it won't shift and get up and go. VERY strong smell of gasoline, and tonight started getting a lot of blue smoke. Don't think getting a code is going to work on this one. Any idears? TIA. |
A Stevie Ray Vaughn funeral may be in the offing for this car.

sounds like one of the cylinders is'nt firing causing the fuel smell. Is it injection or carb?

Sounds like valve guide seals or rings maybe.

Try running some fuel additives. STP or BG... Something like that.
Get a compression test too. It could be just some fouled plugs or something simple but it sounds to me like the old girl might need some serious work. |
I have about 270,000 on my 97 Toyota pickup. She is ugly but runs.

i got a '72 gremlin. i think you can use it for parts on that townie.

I have an oil filter from a 93 F-250 in my garage if you need it.

Contact Argo if you need a "new" car. I heard he has one to sell.

Sure it the smoke is blue?
Does it smell sweet? Posted via Mobile Device |
But if the engine light comes on a code will point us in the right direction.
do you still have my info? Posted via Mobile Device |
If it's got coil packs I'm guessing it's early 2000s. 4.6l?

White smoke not blue. Ever tasted antifreeze? If so it smells just like it tastes when burnt. Posted via Mobile Device |

I have a 1996 Windstar van you could use to fix that old clunker.
Just tie your Lincoln to the rear bumper of my van and you can just pull the ol' piece of crap around. |

A vacationing penguin is driving through Arizona when he
notices that the oil-pressure light is on.* He gets out to look and sees oil dripping out of the motor.* He drives to the nearest town and stops at the first gas station.* After dropping the car off, the penguin goes for a walk around town. He sees an ice-cream shop and, being a penguin in Arizona, decides that something cold would really hit the spot.* He gets a big bowl of vanilla ice cream and sits down to eat.* Having no hands, he makes real mess trying to eat with his little flippers. After finishing his ice cream, he goes back to the gas station and asks the mechanic if he's found the problem.* The mechanic looks up and says, "It looks like you´ve blown a seal." "No, no," the penguin replies, "it's just ice cream." |

Unless it's flooded so bad the fuel has filled the crank case all the way up and is forcing oil into the cylinders Posted via Mobile Device |

But it's spelled "tire", not "tier" my friend. |

Quick test I like is to use my spark plug to compressor adaptor, roll each cylinder around to TDC then pump compressed air to it and listen for leaks. It’ll lose some air to the crank case due to ring end gap but if it’s losing a lot it’s a broken ring(s). If it starts blowing bubbles in the radiator it’s a blown head gasket or cracked/warped head. If it starts blowing through the exhaust it’s a burnt exhaust valve, through the intake same song different verse. |

So, Mr. Flopnuts. Did you find out what the problem was?

Sounds like your muffler bearings are loose.
