Goodbye, Dane McCloud lifestyle. I'm moving to San Francisco!

Well gang, after spending every minute of my breathing life as a resident of Los Angeles I'm loading up the VW bus and moving to an even more expensive city - San Francisco! Land of Rice-a-Roni, cable cars and 2013 SuperBowl participants the 49ers.
Any CPers up there? We can get together for a game or risk our lives watching the Chiefs in Oakland.

I'm [thisclose] to accepting a cool position out there, TinyEvel. TBD.

Not sure if I want to uproot the family for the $an Franci$co area.

Congrats, how is the new gig going, btw?

Phobia 07-08-2013 09:44 PM

Congrats. Glad you survived your flight.

I've heard that San Francisco has some of the best Applebee's restaurants in the whole country. You're going to enjoy it.

so you're adopting a san francisco "lifestyle"

uh huh

OK

If you ever want to get on TV, just wait for a Primetime Niners game and head on down to that fish throwing place. You'll be certain to get some facetime.

I don't advertise but I live in the area. Raiders games are cool I've been to a couple, it is nuts. Raiders fans are probably more likely to fight with each other than any one else. It was funny one year I went to the OAK/KC game in both OAK and KC the differences in how the fans treat the other teams fans in the stadiums was night and day. I would say don't wear a chiefs jersey unless you want pain lol. In KC they would rib the raiders fans but it was pretty good natured....in oakland.....ROFL....yea just don't wear a jersey unless you go in a group of friends...the bigger the better.

Strangely some of the most violent fights are games between the niners and the raiders....and the niners fans are as big or bigger thugs than the raiders fans.

If you had shown up last weekend you could have gotten to see SF in all it's glory at the pride parade! ROFL

OP you'll like SF! When I attend Raider games I pref to stay in SF and enjoy the nightlife!

Contrary to popular belief there are lots of hot single career oriented women who live in that city and less straight men to go around!

San Fran is fun as hell, but goddamn there are some crazy mother****ers in that city. Downtown SF was weirder than Brooklyn, Philly, Chicago, or anywhere else I've been.

Oh, and people in the SF area seem to be okay with toking just about anywhere.. basketball courts, cars, outside restaurants. That was pretty bizarre, but I didn't really mind.

I think that place is in San Francisco wannabe Seattle.....

http://www.pikeplacefish.com/

But it is on the tube every time the Seahawks play. Sorta their equivalent to showing a grill of ribs cooking when the Chiefs play.

I agree with all of this. It is the only place I have ever been walking down the street and see some bum taking a crap right on the sidewalk.

That being said, I love the place and Tiny make sure to eat here at the Tadich Grill.
You don't need to dress up, go as you are.

the food in china town, napa valley, fishin in the bay, skiing only 3 hours away, sports books in Reno not far, Half Moon Bay, Carmel. The Giants, the Niners, there is a lot to like about SF.

Clyde Frog 07-09-2013 10:04 AM

I live in the city. I go to a bar called mad dog and the fog on haight st to watch games. It's a great set up: they dedicate certain tvs to different games and always have every game on. I go with my buddy from Nigeria who went to college in KC. You're welcome to join. PM me your info

underEJ 07-09-2013 10:09 AM

Sadly, the gay community is way outnumbered by the douchebags now. It is some sort of toxic waste left over from the nineties dot com thing, and it boils up every 5 or 6 years.

Congrats! It is a great city. I lived in both the city and the east bay for a while. Chiefs watching is scarce and like most cities you will have to contend with Steelers fans who seem to have every bar staked out, but post if you do a meet up for a game, I am up there alot in the fall for work. Enjoy the burritos.

The Franchise 07-09-2013 10:18 AM

I'm actually heading down to the city for a conference next week.

Agreed

I lived at Telegraph Landing on Sansome St in SF from 1996 to 1999 and then moved to Mountain View. I loved SF and you won't need a car

The Bus Stop Saloon in Cow Hollow/Marina district for all the games

Marina District park to people watch

Great places to eat:
Boulevard-great chops usually veal or lamb
Zuni Cafe-fun California fusion
Fleur De Lys-excellent and unique French
Il Fornaio-Italian
Yank Sing or Ton Kiang-Dim Sum

A ride to Half Moon Bay and then all the way through La Honda on Rt 84

Golf Courses like Harding Park and the other 200 within 30 miles

San Francisco is 10x's better than L.A.

BIG_DADDY 07-09-2013 10:27 AM

I moved my company to the Financial District. PM me know when you are around.

I moved last week to the West side of skyline to a 30 acre ranch. We are putting a motocross track on the property. Absolute heaven. There are not many places in the world where you can work in a financial epicenter like SF and within an hour be in complete beauty and tranquility. My neighbors are very famous so getting in and out is a little pain but I love it. The isolation is great. You don't even know you have neighbors.

My honeymoon was in San Fran. First time I had ever been openly propositioned by a gay guy was 24 hours after I was married. This guy came up to me in a T-Shirt shop in Fisherman's Wharf and said "Oooh....I have just your size!" I said "I beg your pardon?" He said "Let's go for a ride in my Porsche..." I looked at my new wife and said "Well, I've always wanted to ride in a Porsche!"

Yea I am very stoked. The best thing is getting my wife and son back. Little man freaked every time I left for 3 years, never again. This morning I rode my motorcycle out in the dark. On skyline the last 2 miles to 92 give you a panoramic view of the ocean and of the valley. Clouds were low on both sides as the sun rose and just the peaks of the mountains were sticking out. It was like heaven. I don't think most people know just how beautiful parts of the bay area are. I don't ever want to leave but may still end up in the Applegate valley in Southern Oregon one of these days.

I don't know how many times on Cal Train heading back to Mountain View I remember, "Welcome to Burlingame, you've reached Burlingame, next stop San Mateo, San Mateo next stop."

I also fell asleep a few times in the upper level of the train after drinking a bunch and woke up in the San Jose train yards while they cleaned the train. Sucked having to walk all the way back and then grabbing the next train North.

Five facts you never knew about San Francisco.

1. It's named after Saint Frank, the patron saint of cured meats.

2. The city is built atop a giant elephant, who in turn stands atop a giant tortoise.

3. There are no gay people in San Francisco. The city developed its image to attract the lucrative LGBT tourist market segment.

4. The city has a vibrant Muslim population, with thousands each year making a pilgrimage to the al Capone site near al Catraz.

5. There are more Chinese people with degrees from UC-Berkeley or Stanford in San Francisco than there are in China.
