No MLB playoffs thread....what?

Yes, I realize it's been going on for the past few days already...just never saw an official thread anywhere.

Giants and Reds on TBS right now.

gblowfish 10-09-2012 07:08 PM

What are these "MLB Playoffs" of which you speak?
We have no knowledge of that here in KC.

Heh, why do I feel like MLB has become a "niche" sport like MLS sometimes?

Baseball died with the strike and became even more dead with the firing of Frank White. Baseball sucks. KC Baseball sucks even more. Cards can bite it. I hope the lose no matter who they play.

Love watching teams leave it all on the field. And there it is.

Even seeing Fielder run 150 feet as fast as he can run is cool.

Pretty much the same here. I just cant get too excited about MLB anymore because of the Royals futility.

Heres some interesting facts....Johnny Damon is only 231 hits away from 3000 and Derek Jeter is only 952 away from Pete Roses hits record. Anyone think they can make it?

Jeter would probably need to play about 5 or 6 more seasons.

Then it's the perfect team for most of this metro area.

I shit you not, one of the local radio guys here just made it a point to give the fans props on his radio show for selling out the park yesterday. Because, you know, some people "probably had to take a half day off work or find day care for their kids..."

Evidently, fans here deserve an atta boy for going to a playoff game...The first one in this town in 80 years.

He was my favorite player when he was in KC. I've rooted for him since and even though I hate the Yankees if that walk off had to happen I was glad it was Raul.

I get that people hate him (and I understand why they do), but he is one of the best players to ever play the game (top 20 for sure). He has 647 career HRs while playing an excellent SS and 3B for his entire career.

Or Carlos Beltran. But his postseason OPS in his career is actually better than Jeter's.

I was going to say, A Rod was a damn good SS. Jeter, as I said in another thread, never had great range. I usually say there a bunch of SS I would rather have defensively, but in the playoffs, I will take my chances with Jeter. His play in the 8th inning is proof. It wasn't a 10 on the scale, but considering the situation and the play combined, that was clutch as hell. He also made it look a lot easier than it was.

tk13 10-13-2012 10:12 AM

The Washington Nationals sent an email to their fans this morning to notify them of the presale for Nats World Series tickets. I guess you can tell they haven't done this before.

Don't really hate him. No denying he's been a great regular season player. But I'm all about clutch and how you perform under pressure that makes you truly great. He's not clutch.

I'm fine with it. As soon as they idiotically decided to shut down Strasburg, they guaranteed that the wrath of the baseball Gods would rain down upon their heads.

He did basically lead the NYY to a WS title in 2009 by mashing the ball throughout the postseason, though.

Heh, a lot of times it's the unsung guys in the post season who deliver. There's not nearly the amount of pressure on them to perform as there is on star players. I think they can just relax at the plate because nobody really expected them to do much anyways.

Yep. For all his struggles a lot of teams would kill for that year he gave them. Not being a generic idiot Yankee fan, I don't forget that. We knew we would be paying him when he was falling apart.

This is insane. Epic hitting fail all first round and first game except the 9th inning.

If the Yankees win that shot of Verlander mouthing "oh my god" will be quite the enjoyable gif.

True but at some point you need to nut up and say...I know how to play baseball and I know how to play it well. Let me count the ways with my cluth play. Except he never did.

No. Usually doesn't, yes. 2009 he carried the Yankees. Most teams would kill for that one year. The Yankees have 1 World Series in the past 12 years and dumb Yankees fans don't realize it was because of A Rod. I would love for him to do more, but a title is a title.

Darling wanted Ichiro to go. Why? So they walk Ibanez and put Chavez up? Yeah normally you take that with the winning run on 2nd. This teams lineup has been beyond terrible outside of Ibanez. I would take him up with a guy on first over anyone else outside of Jeter and a guy on second.
