Could Justin Houston really break the sack record?
I mean, we play some really, really, REALLY bad teams folks.
Bills Browns Giants OL is shaky Raiders twice Chargers twice (and their OL is just bad) Broncos lost Clady and we play them twice Titans All he needs is 16 more sacks in 13 games. What have you? |
He's faced two rookie tackles and disappeared agai`1nst Dallas. Slow thy roll.
15 sacks is probably a lock. |
I think he gets 16. And that's still damn impressive.
|
Absolutely.
When you look at the T's he faces the rest of the year I'd be shocked if he doesn't average 2 per game... |
I think you'll see hali rise up as he gets more attention
|
Not if we keep asking if could really break the sack record.
The sack record is like fight club. |
Yeah, the Bills are a good team this year, at least better than they have been. When you go right to the end with the Patriots you deserve a little respect. Giants aren't as bad as everyone keeps putting on, they've faced the Peytons and the Cowboys (which we only beat by 1 point). The only good thing about the Giants is they're turnover proned. I would honestly not be surprised if we swept the NFC East this year. Which would be great!
As far as Houston, yeah he could be dominant, but the sack record..... eh. Let's just worry about winning games, if we're winning games, he'll get up there. |
I think he has a legit shot at it. Either that or Hali/Johnson will get a lot more sacks than they do now.

I think I saw a sack projection for Houston on ESPN. 24.

Do you guys not remember Aldon Smith having about 18 after 12-13 games last year?

Period. Put that argument down. Houston will never rush the passer as much as Miller (in a full season.) That said Houston is the better overall player. Miller is not the beast Houston is in coverage or vs. the run... |
Quote:
And we haven't even broke out a lot of blitzes yet. |
Quote:
|
And yet, I still can't figure out why he couldn't hold the edge on a Shady run.
|
Quote:
Last year, Miller had more run stops and fewer missed tackles than Houston. |

If he has 3 more against the Giants then we can start this thread again.

6.5 sacs in three games....extrapolate that out.....
|
The Giants have the 5th worst pass blocking line in the league right now.
Their tackles are Justin Pugh (another rookie) and William Beatty. In 10 days, Arrowhead feasts. |

Chiefs are on pace for 75 sacks. Ye GODS

NOT. WAIT. |

Honestly. I won't take anything away from Miller. He might be the best pure pass rusher from OLB I've watched since DT. The guy just has that "it." That said while he's out-****ing-standing at that one thing he's not a better overall LB... |

He's also like DT in that they're both average in coverage/run support. |
You can't say enough about dontari Poe. Was drawing so much attention tonight. He will make the road to a Houston sack record that much easier.
|
Justin Houston has 7.5 sacks so far, and the mid point of the season is still 4 weeks away. I think he might get 20 sacks this year at the rate he's going.
|
Justin Houston got a 7.3 from PFF for his game last night. That's the highest grade I've EVER seen them assign for 1 game.

I predict they start double teaming him and Hali-Poe-others will start getting more sacks

Yeah, I actually did read the post I quoted from... |

So Poe comes up with 2 sacks. Then the Eagles dedicated all sorts of resources to Poe to slow him down. So Hali and Houston rape off the edge. This is a fun year to love defense if you're a Chiefs fan. |

i think he gets the record.
Love the defensive scheme this year. Kinda worried about the rushing yards they gave up last night but i expected it to be a high total with Vick and McCoy running the ball. |
Quote:
I can't tell you how many times we had the run plugged, and he does this jaunty sidestep and ekes out 7 yards. That guy is amazing. |
McCoy was just sick last night. BUT...even with all those rushing yards, the defense held to FG's for the most part. We can win a lot of games playing like they did last night.
|
I expect that Houston will break the record by game 8, so yes:evil:
|
Can the Chiefs break the 1984 Bears record of 72 team sacks?
* If they do the Chiefs would hold the record for most and fewest team sacks in a season (10 in 2008). |

I just wish the Denver fan who makes the madden ratings will finally cut us some slack this week. Houston should be a 95. Poe a 90. The list goes on and on of players getting the short-end there.

Aldon Smith got a 10 in week 11 last year. Von Miller put up an incredible 12.3 in week 5. Anything above 5 is pretty outstanding, though. You only see 1 or 2 of those most weeks. |

I doubt it but I hope so. All of his sacks have come against rookies to this point.

He disappeared against DAL because Tony Romo got the ball out in about 2 seconds for the majority of the game, esp in the 2nd half.
Yes I think it's a real possibility he gets it. Our defense IMO barring injury is going to get better and better. If he only needs 16 in the next 13 games then he's def on pace to destroy that. I can't imagine how many sacks he'll have against the Browns, Raiders, Titans, and Chargers. I think he can get at least 10 in just those 4 games alone (I'm not even counting the fact we're playing OAK and SD 2x), and we still have 9 more games to play. |
The crazy thing to me, is that Houston is so good that we almost forget sometimes (or I do) that Tamba Hali is on the other side of him. We have to have the arguably best rushing tandem in the NFL. This is our Strahan and Uymenyora(sp).

Something I noticed:
50% of Poe's pressures are sacks 46% of Houston's pressures are sacks 5% of Hali's pressures are sacks, but he leads the league in pressures. (13% is league average) Both Poe and Houston are not so great in pressures per pass rushing snap (Houston is 19th for 3-4 OLBs, and Poe is 39th for DT/NTs), but obviously both are doing very well getting sacks. Essentially, when they rush the passer, they are getting sacks, or they are not affecting the play at all. Why is this? Is this due to the scheme? |

Last night 4.5 sacks. Today only 3.5 what happened?

The Houston bobble head dance after a sack is awesome.
I thought it was stupid at first, but now I love it. |

@AdamSchefter: NFL has changed Justin Houston’s sack total Thursday night to 4.5 sacks from 3.5. Houston now has a league-high 7.5 sacks for season.
