NBA Adopts Anti-Flopping Policy
The NBA officially adopted an anti-flopping policy Wednesday, announcing a new rule that will fine repeat offenders this season.
Any player who flops during a regular-season game will be subject to a series of penalties, beginning with a warning for first-time violators. After the warning, players will be fined in increments of $5,000 for each additional flop over the course of the season. The fines increase to $30,000 for a fifth offense. SN: Will Fines Fix Flopping? The NBA announced an escalating scale of fines for players caught flopping this season. Will that deter floppers? • Cast Your Vote! The NBA stated it would consider suspending any player who violates the anti-flopping rule more than five times in the regular season. The league said it will announce at a later date a separate set of penalties for flopping during the postseason. "Flops have no place in our game," Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president of basketball operations, said in a written statement. "They either fool referees into calling undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking the referees missed a foul call. "Accordingly, both the Board of Governors and the Competition Committee felt strongly that any player who the league determines, following video review, to have committed a flop should -- after a warning -- be given an automatic penalty." The league defined flopping as "any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player" in an official release. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/84...s-fine-players |
Who?
|
Thats ****ing dumb.
|
There's no reason to fine them for flopping.
Just don't call the damn foul. |
Oh good, I will start watching NBA games now, that was holding me back.
|
This is going to cripple the Heat big time.
|
This is bullshit. Flop is one of the cooler posters here. Why would they ban him from NBA games?

Cool. Paul Pierce will have to find a new hobby now.
|
Wouldn't it be easier just to ban the whole NBA?

What...and I'll have to miss great theatre like this! LMAO |
Flopping is worse in college. That's where that shit ****ing starts. The egregious flops you see in the NBA are just the result of a long practiced career where that shit is encouraged.

Sounds like in a court of law this would be some form of hear-say
|
$5k fines to guys who are paid tens of thousands each time they put on a jersey. Nice.

NBA basketball is about as hard a sport as there is to referee. Depending on teh angle, etc. then flopping can definitely WORK. The ref calls the foul, it can influence games, etc. The point of the anti-flopping rule is that the NBA can review film and then decide AFTERWARDS that a flop occurred, and penalize the player. I like it. Not that I care that much about the sport, but the soccer-ization of the NBA must stop. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/WWRjyUzPX70" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Penalties aren't harsh enough. FIVE flops in a season ought to be an automatic suspension for a game (and loss of a game check). Then three games for another suspension, then two from there out.
$5K won't hurt much, but a game check would... |

A guy like Wade has insane ability. He can drive to the basket and while surrounded by bodies he'll toss that ball up and contort his body in a way that it appears he's fouled. Then you watch the replay and find out nobody touched him, but he sold it and the ref can't even tell. To them, it LOOKS like a foul. |
What is this NBA you speak of?

My dad tells me stories of how he watched the KC Kings at home in the early 80's, his co. occasionaly gave him courtside tix and he described the ferocious play and how physical those guys got with each other, especially in the paint. The NBA has gone from Mr. T to Paris Hilton.

This is worse than the money grab the NFL pulled with the fines for hard hits.

In all honesty they should just call a foul on the flopper and that would change everything. NO need to fine players, just call a foul for obvious flopping. |

lemme guess, on game day you scream 'let them play, let them play' and then the rest of the week you support the players lawsuits against the league for injuries and head trauma? |
