Chiefs are releasing RT Eric Winston, per league source.

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

@nfldraftscout there are some serious injury concerns

Looks like he's hurt

Mizzou_8541 03-06-2013 07:10 PM

Because the fans hate him for loving Cassel.

OrtonsPiercedTaint 03-06-2013 07:12 PM

Goodbye QBotF

KC native 03-06-2013 07:12 PM

Bullshit. He was terrible last year but no way they cut bait with him already.

ShowtimeSBMVP 03-06-2013 07:12 PM

Albert going to play RT SMH

KC kid 03-06-2013 07:13 PM

Albert to RT?

RunKC 03-06-2013 07:13 PM

I'd like to see us put Stephenson at RT if this is true.

Sorter 03-06-2013 07:13 PM

DONALD STEPHENSON RTOTF!!!

KC native 03-06-2013 07:13 PM

We could get something in a trade for him. No way he gets straight released.

OrtonsPiercedTaint 03-06-2013 07:13 PM

Someone check his yard for forsale signs.

KCrockaholic 03-06-2013 07:14 PM

WHAT THE ****

Canofbier 03-06-2013 07:14 PM

If this is true, I'll be pretty pissed with Dorsey and Reid.

DaKCMan AP 03-06-2013 07:14 PM

:cuss: :banghead:

Do not want an OT @ #1 overall.

:deevee:

ShowtimeSBMVP 03-06-2013 07:15 PM

OL Eric Winston $4,900,000 $6,500,000

Frees up some money

What a waste of a FA signing last year if true.

Like Hillis, Boss, Rapeatiti, etc.

HELL YEA....:toast:PBJPBJ

Misplaced_Chiefs_Fan 03-06-2013 07:16 PM

Winston was a great tackle to run behind.

This would make no sense whatsoever.

There is no way this is true. We could get a 3-5th pick for him. No ****ing way we just cut him especially after the Bowe, Jackson, and Albert moves.

OrtonsPiercedTaint 03-06-2013 07:16 PM

Did Pioli blow or waht?

WOW

Didnt see that one coming.

I really hope that they like Stephenson more for their scheme. I think he would be a good RT.

It's ****ing true lol

NJChiefsFan 03-06-2013 07:17 PM

If this happens I am going to wait and hope that the issue is resolved in FA. Enough good moves past few days to give them a chance to fix this prior to the draft. I would rather just keep Winston though.

Gravedigger 03-06-2013 07:17 PM

Yeah I don't get it. He wasn't bad enough to release and if they're going to release people there are more qualified people to give their walking papers.

ShowtimeSBMVP 03-06-2013 07:17 PM

Matt Miller ‏@nfldraftscout

$9MM is a lot to pay Branden Albert to play right tackle for one season, but the #Chiefs seem prepared to do just that.

Nightfyre 03-06-2013 07:17 PM

This would not be a good move. I mean, you don't spend the number one pick to save money at RT.

FYP

TRR 03-06-2013 07:18 PM

The bad...May signal KC going Tackle with their first round pick no matter the position.

The good...Not remotely impressed with Eric Winston. I thought he looked out of shape coming in to training camp, and struggled with his pass blocking all year long. Wouldn't be sad to see him get the axe.

dumb move imo

But not great to pass behind. And in an expected more pass happy offense this makes sense.

Per @ProFootballTalk, #Chiefs are releasing RT Eric Winston. Move saves $5.5M in cash, $3.5M in cap space.

Yeah I bet he's got a huge boner over this...

Jayhawk Chief 03-06-2013 07:21 PM

They've got a plan. This is too big a move. They have a replacement.

Frankly, I think the Chiefs are getting ready to buy them some FA's. I think Dorsey/Reid have bigger plans than we do.

Three, I believe.

BradBigglestein 03-06-2013 07:21 PM

Andy Reid typically knows when to let players go at the right time. I haven't seen Winston play much, so I can't know for sure. He did a good job with the Eagles at letting players go right before their production hit major decline.

Haven't we figured out it's a bit premature to predict what's going to happen yet?

RunKC 03-06-2013 07:21 PM

I think they want a big RT. Winston just didn't fit.

Looks like Reid is really hammering down on the OL after his catastrophe in Philly.

They were looking at OL hard at the combine, so might be seeing multiple OL picks in the draft.

Yeah, there's no way we're going to be watchers in free agency this year. They're cleaning out LOADS of cap room.

EZ “@evantaylorks: Can @Don59Wayne play RT?”

DON'T WORRY GUYS. DONALD'S GOT THIS SHIT!

Hammock Parties 03-06-2013 07:24 PM

People are acting like Winston was a turnstile.

He allowed 4 sacks and 25 QB pressures. He had the 8th ranked pass blocking ranking for RTs.

That's entirely acceptable.

ShowtimeSBMVP 03-06-2013 07:24 PM

Matt Miller, @NFLDRAFTSCOUT, who I think is well connected, has heard KC is pursuing a left guard in free agency.

Rexx 03-06-2013 07:24 PM

Wow...didn't see this coming. Guess we better get used to Joeckel at #1.

WakkaWakka 03-06-2013 07:24 PM

Strike 2

BradBigglestein 03-06-2013 07:24 PM

People in Philadelphia who I listen to say Andy Reid really likes Eric Fisher at OT. That doesn't mean he'll take him #1 though.

'Hamas' Jenkins 03-06-2013 07:24 PM

Thoughts:

1) ROFL

2) :spock:

3) :banghead: Makes the likelihood of them taking Joeckel higher by using him as RT for a year then moving to LT.

Winston move a head scratcher if you're a #Chiefs fan. $700k in cap savings, over 6mil in dead money.

Brian McIntyre ‏@brian_mcintyre

Per @ProFootballTalk, #Chiefs are releasing RT Eric Winston. Move saves $5.5M in cash, $3.5M in cap space.
