Any Navigation system recommendations?

I'm looking for a portable navigation system (Garmin, TomTom). Anyone have any recommendations?

Portable? You mean handheld or automotive?

I have a Garmin automotive window mount and have been pretty happy with it. I have seen a lot of praises on Garmins, as well. Do a search and you will find a couple of threads about GPS units.

Sorry....Automotive is what I meant.

What cell service do you have? I have a G1 thru tmobile and the Google turn-by-turn navigation works great.

Well, I will buy this. I need a navigation system. I have been thinking about this one. Anyone own one of these or have any recommendations?

Do you not have a smartphone? Unless you constantly drive where you don't get cell reception, they're far superior.

I can't speak to your specific model, but I can tell you that I've been using a Garmin for years, and I've never had any kind of issues. For me, it's been much better than using a phone.

This. Use google maps. Get a cradle/stand to stick your phone in. Done.

There is no need to spend more money on an inferior piece of equipment.

How is this possible? Apps like Waze provide information about road conditions that GPS units just can't match, like lane closures, road hazards, speed traps, etc. Traffic info is nice, but you can get much more specific and useful info from apps.

I have the Waze app and I have an LG G3, but that app isn't worth a darn, at least on my phone for some reason. I have tried to use it 2 times and it sent me the wrong way both times and the screen is terrible.

You've obviously had a different experience but, for me, using the Garmin has been better than using a phone. It's given better directions, and it doesn't give me a dual use problem the way using the phone does.
