Going to Philadelphia in March. Tips for the city?

Staying at the Hyatt at Penn's Landing. Where are some interesting places to go?

Would like a good place to go out and have some drinks...

A nice place to grab breakfast...

A place to have a nice dinner. Not anything super omega expensive but nice.

Also any other interesting stuff worth checking out. Because it is weird and interesting looking we may hit up the Mutter Museum...a medical science museum.

Heard the Liberty Bell is so so as an attraction. Any better places to catch Rev war history?

Thanks in advance.

Just be yourself, you'll be welcomed.

Drink a gallon of antifreeze. It'll make you more likeable in the city of brotherly love.

Run up the steps like Rocky. Try to get tickets to the Liberty Bell early in the day or you won't get in.

Take a carriage ride and laugh and point at the homeless people asking for change. Deep down, they just want to be acknowledged.

okc = okcupid

It's a blog about self-professed "nice guys" who reveal themselves to actually be big ol' dickbags in their okcupid profiles.

I was just jk though, I get the sense that you're an actual nice guy and not just a "nice guy." With a bad boi side ;)

Oh. I'm not on any dating sites or blogs. Sorry for my ignorance.

I am a nice guy in reality. I just have have little patience for actual dickbags who get off on being dickbags. Such a waste of life.

Tour the Eastern State Penitentiary

http://cbk0.google.com/cbk?output=ti...x=0&y=0&zoom=3.

Incredibly cool. This really did blow away every other thing I did when I was out there (well, except for watching the Cards clinch the WS...)

As for food, Cuba Libre was awfully good. I thought Geno's was a little better than Pats (Cheesesteaks). Have your order ready and go with the traditional cheeze-whiz style rather than provolone.

I really enjoyed the Constitution Center for the Revolutionary War history.

mcaj22 12-31-2012 01:30 AM

youll be put in a nice hotel and then if you want to do anything with your lady you will get one block any direction and just go ugh, what a ****ing depressing, boring, dump.

anything fun is outside of the city like people have mentioned (Daleassandros steaks)

only thing the actual city is good for is concert venues and catching a touring band if you like music

they moved that rocky statue totally at the bottom of the stairs, by the road, so you dont even have to go near the stairs, theres no reward for walking them

because there are so many fat and old people that cant climb those stairs that tour the city and jump out of busses to take photos with the statue and then homeless person after homeless person that stands there and annoys you and asks to take photos for you with your camera while you stand in front of the statue, tip them/pay them, or just steal your camera if you are dumb enough to give it to them, which most tourists are that stupid.

place is so lame

Actually, that museum is pretty badass inside, especially as you go up to the 3rd and 4th floors (iirc).

They have exhibits of actual times/places. Entire rooms were replicated to reproduce buddhist temples or Medieval churches. It was extremely cool once you stopped looking at silly paintings. The upper levels were quite badass.

Pick your cheesesteak place wisely. Pats and Genos are awesome but if cheese whiz makes you puke, order provolone instead. Pats has juice that soaks through the bread, Genos is not. so I prefer pats. Pats is the original, so don't listen to advice that it's commercialized.

Philly has unbelievable restaurants. Choose wisely.

you can't go wrong. Philly is awesome.

Go to south street for its fun atmosphere and eat at Jim's Cheesesteaks- bst in town, IMO. Visit Center City, Independence Hall, and Chinatown. If you do end up doing the Pats/Genos thing, enjoy it but don't expect them to be too good. One of them is hilariously pro-American, with Freedom Fries and all.

Oh, and Tastycakes. Pick em up at a WaWa's

DJay23 12-31-2012 02:22 PM

I stumbled on this place once and I was very moved by it. Washington Square, near the Constitution Center/Independence Hall, has a monument to the unknown Revolutionary War Soldier. Throughout the park there are mass graves of revolutionaries. It's hard not to be thankful in a place like that.

That's pretty cool. I had no idea something like that existed.

Has anyone suggested Paddy's Bar? Tell Charlie I sent you.

That entire park is pretty cool.

To me Independence Hall was the coolest thing there.

In the range of 150 the two of us.

If you take a cab over to old city that is where you will find most of of the historic attractions and some good resturaunt/bars. The Rittenhouse square area has some great restaurants as well.

Some recommendations :

Franklin mortgage and investment company - - Speak easy type bar in Rittenhouse square.

Fogo De Chao- Brazilian steak house chain amazing!

Steven starr is a big name for resturaunts in philly. Google anything by him and they are usually top notch.

I've been to Philadelphia several times.

Yeah, anything Steven Starr or Jose garces. I don't live in Philly so a real Philly guy can point you somewhere better. Best I've had was morimoto, even though it's a little weirdly trendy on the inside. Was started by the original iron chef.

gta0012 12-31-2012 09:42 PM

Yea morimoto is really good. And starr has a semi fast food place called 500 degrees that has reaaaallllly good burgers.

Yeah, it's sort of like this shady little small town USA town park in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the country (albeit in the old part of town).

Neither had I. I've been to Philly enough times that I don't remember the reason I was down in the old part of town, but I know we weren't looking for this place and boy we just wandered around it for a long time, it was endlessly fascinating, if you like history and what not. I choked up when I read the line on the monument.

Thanks everyone!

Oh, and Tastycakes. Pick em up at a WaWa's

I agree, Jim's is the best. I always liked South Street in the 90's but haven't been there in a few years so not exactly sure what it's turned into. Was a cool place for record stores (611 and Digital Underground).

Go to Independence Hall and the Barnes is a great place.

I've stayed at the Sheraton just on the other side of 95 by Penn's Landing several times. I don't know how it is now, but the Chart House used to be a pretty nice place to eat. You can take a ferry from Penn's Landing over to New Jersey and go to the aquarium. They also have the USS Olympia there as well.
Don't miss the Liberty Bell and independence Hall.

My only advise is if someone on the street tries to sell you on the idea of going to a club that offers free foot long Philly cheesesteaks...dont go!!! They're not the kind you'd think they are!!!!

So how many minorities did you have to Stand Your Ground against with an assault rifle whilst there?
